Why you must visit the largest mud palace in the World 🌎 ಹಿಂದೆಂದೂ ನೋಡಿರದ ಅದ್ಬುತ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಅರಮನೆ

World's biggest Citadel. In this video you will see the border of Iran and Pakistan, Before Pakistan became a separate country Iran and India were neighbours, I passed on this highway to Zahedan remembering the portion times and the suffering of many even after we gained freedom from the oppressive British empire. Then from Zahedan I Hitchhiked towards Kerman and I got my hitchhike after waiting for 2 long hours and this lovely man called Hossein who was returning from work after 2 long weeks to his home in Kerman and as I sat in his car passing through a desert storm and we visited a a minaret in a highly windy situation and then we visited the worlds biggest Citadel in the city of Bam.
Situated in a vast desert plateau in the southern reaches of Iran, the Bam Citadel rises up like a Phoenix again from the intimating earthquake after being almost entirely leveled in the 2003 Bam Earthquake.
Tracing it’s origins back to the 6th century BC in the Achaemenid Period, the oasis town and citadel of Bam didn’t experience it’s golden era until much later in the 7th til 11th centuries when it was one of the key stops on the Silk Route transporting goods between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
After spending some good time understanding the Citadel we headed towards Kerman and my hitchhike friend offered to host me in his house and we reached his home.
The Arg-e Bam, also known as the Bam Citadel, is an ancient fortress located in the southeastern province of Kerman in Iran. It is considered to be the largest mud brick structure in the world and one of the most important cultural heritage sites in Iran. Here are some interesting facts about the Arg-e Bam:
Age and history: The citadel was built during the Sassanid era, which lasted from 224 to 651 AD. The fortress was expanded and renovated over the centuries by various rulers, including the Safavid and Qajar dynasties.
Size: The Arg-e Bam covers an area of approximately 180,000 square meters and is surrounded by a moat and a wall that is up to six meters thick and 12 meters high. The citadel includes several buildings, courtyards, and towers that are connected by a series of tunnels and corridors.
Material: The fortress is made entirely of mud bricks, which were produced locally using a mixture of mud, straw, and water. The bricks were dried in the sun and then baked in kilns to increase their strength and durability.
Purpose: The Arg-e Bam was built as a defensive structure to protect the city and its residents from invaders. It also served as a center of governance, commerce, and culture for the region.
UNESCO World Heritage Site: The Arg-e Bam was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, recognizing its cultural and historical significance. However, the citadel was severely damaged in a 2003 earthquake, which destroyed many of the buildings and killed over 26,000 people in the region.
Restoration efforts: Since the earthquake, extensive restoration efforts have been underway to rebuild the citadel and preserve its heritage. Many of the damaged structures have been reconstructed using traditional techniques and materials, and the site is now open to visitors.
Cultural significance: The Arg-e Bam is an important symbol of Iranian history, architecture, and culture. It is also a testament to the ingenuity and skill of ancient builders who were able to construct such a massive structure using only mud and brick.
In conclusion, the Arg-e Bam is a remarkable feat of ancient engineering and an important cultural heritage site in Iran. Its massive size, unique construction materials, and historical significance make it a must-see destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture. Despite the earthquake damage, the citadel remains a testament to the enduring legacy of Iranian civilization.
