  • What do scouts really look for during a showcase? That's what we're talking about in this video. If you have a baseball showcase coming up, then take a second to watch this video. We start by talking about infielders but then go on to talk about pitching and hitting. We talk about baseball showcases for youth baseball players and the high school aged baseball player. So watch this video to be ready for your next showcase or tryout!

Hey guys, solid info from you guys on what a baseball player needs to do to train and become a great prospect. Im a sports writer from Canada and wanted to ask Chris Marlowe a question on scouting pitchers specifically. Im new to the channel and look forward to learning, especially from a scouting perspective.

Would you say size matters at a showcase. For example if there is a 15u kid who is six three and has lots of velo and can crush the ball but isn’t very fundamentally sound do you think they have and advantage over smaller kids who have good mechanics but maybe aren’t developed fully yet so they don’t look as pleasing to the eye

I was told scouts look for 3 things. Foot speed, arm speed and bat speed. Everything else can be taught. I was told this 25+ years ago. Things might have changed.

Thats it! They dont care if u can catch a flyball if u are a oitfielder, grounders in the infield, or blocking as a catcher, mechanics as a pitcher. Some showcases are so pathetic that no scouts are there! They hire some part timer high school band member to just sit and take velo speeds behind the backstop an put results in their website. Its all velo for everything now. You turn into a serial killer after they pick you up oh well they never see or check who they pickup just get me that velo!

@@YouGoPro I never meant to put down showcasing. And.my intentions were never to insult coach madden or any of the other coaches he makes training videos with. I appreciate every FREE video I've watched on CZcams from yougopro. I was merely making a written observation about something a college coach said to me when I was a young ballplayer. And it's something that made me work very hard on certain aspects of my game. Scouts are looking for athletes. That's why when you read.the bio of some center fielder playing for some.single a ballclub, its says he ran track in college and never even touched a bat until last year. It sounds to me like the commentor had his dreams crushed when a showcase didn't turn out the way he thought it would for him or his loved one and I feel for him. I have big dreams for my sons also but if it doesnt happen they probably weren't good enough athletes and that's ok. It's not the showcases fault. Or some coach who told me to go.

What about a 6'1 205 lbs 15 year old that throws across the field at 79 but is a tad slower than the smaller kids. What do y'all see in a kid like that?

Im 5'9 129 pounds and am the definition of speed; Ive got a cannon attached to my arm too.
Only problem is that im not 6'5 240 pounds of muscle.

i want to be a d1 pitcher i will be a sophomore next year, i throw 75 and i have a nasty knuckle curve and a good cutter/slider and i can locate my pitches very well but in showcases no one will look at me because i don’t throw 80+ but in games no one can really hit me how do i increase my velo

    • @claspedcolt9438

Lots of long toss and as ur working in try to throw the ball on the line. Long toss and throwing it high will develop muscles in the back and throwing on a line will develop the muscles in the front

kingyak7 Bat speed in my opinion. You’re probably gonna see gains through drills and workouts a lot faster and more noticeable in bat speed than the others.
