I really dig the reminiscing and storytelling bra, keep preaching that NYC nostalgia!
Man, does this take me back. I grew up on 4th ave in the Industry City neighborhood. As kids in the 1950's we would hang on the fence to watch the West End trains make that screeching turn on 38th and 4th ave, like you show in the video. Went to Dewey in the mid 60's and would walk under the Gowanus Expy on rainy days to stay dry. The loft building on 36th street had a Bazooka Bubble Gum factory and we'd steal gum, I have the cavities to prove it. I remember when that Police Station was active. It was the 68th Precinct and later moved to a new building on 65th street.
That neighborhood was run-down in the 50's and 60's and obviously still is. Poor people; Italian, Polish and mostly Puerto Ricans. We were poor but happy kids. We played tackle football in Greenwood Cemetery right inside the fence on 25th and 5th ave, no graves there in those days. The closest park was Sunset and it was a half mile+ walk which sucked on really hot summer days. After military service I settled in Bay Ridge in 1974. A completely different world from Sunset Park. Just saw a house on 27th street (across from St Rocco's) sell for $1,299,000 last year. We never dreamed any property would be worth that kinda dough in our neighborhood. Thanks for letting me reminisce about the "old days".
Very cool to read this!!
@@nicholasanderson9019 thanks, nice for me to be able to leave comments before the Alzheimer's sets in.
Ha!! 1:00 Jack and Tony auto repair. Best mechanics in Brooklyn! I have not been there in 16 years and I'm not surprised that they're still in business.
I remember riding the N and 7 train to school and every Monday I couldn’t wait to see what new graffiti went up over the weekend, the 7 line especially, NATO, BRUZ, KEZ5, AKS1, and many many more, mid 90’s (1994-1995). Still glad to see that the younger generation is still putting in work, maybe not like back in the day but they’re still out there, some old school writers still killing it too till this day.
Yeah man, during the early 1970's the subway cars had soooo much graffiti that seeing out the windows was impossible. A lotta folks had to actually learn the stops so as to know where you were. Trains I mostly rode as a 1950's kid and 1960's young adult were the RR (4th Ave Local), N (Sea Beach), B (West End), D (Brighton) and 7 (Flushing, to Shea). Riding the N and 7 trains to school, where'd you go?? Aviation High School??

Yes folks we have geese in NYC, Brooklyn gangster geese, lol. We have a lot of wildlife you necessarily wouldn’t expect here in the city, raccoons, possums, occasional foxes, escaped bulls. Oh yeah an escaped bull from a butcher distributor once in Queens if I’m correct, hawks in Central Park and a guy once had exotic wild animals in an apartment in Harlem including a lion and other exotics, crazy city.
Man watching u walk around Brooklyn, alot of the spots remind me of Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
Thanks for taking me on a NYC graffiti tour, unfortunately I can't leave Canada for a while due to a graffiti charge lol. so it's appreciated

You know any places with graffiti from 80s and 90s ? I know one man , he is working in MTA , and he said some times they found very old graffiti underground .
Noah AOK is easily top 5 to ever do it...
The 1,2,5,7 and 9 trains were red.
#yardlurks
I was expecting so much more graffiti in brooklyn. You should see Montreal.
i was in the impression that newyork in general is just walls filled with throw upŝ everywhere
@@TheGraffitiWanderer i don't have facebook unfortunatly. Where you been in Montreal? did you have the chance to see the T.A Wall before they demolish it ?
*1:59** is that a DESA throw on the c-can ?*
mega
@@fgentertainment9468 ahh okay, thanks for clearing that up.
Is this South America or Cuba Cultures ? How the graffiti was crafted into those non-public and banned area?
This is where it was born and given life, Yes F.
Yes, graffiti has been around since cave men scratched on cave walls but New York is where it became a true art style, birthed in the mid 70s, coming truly into its own in the 80s and becoming a world wide culture of creators.
Search out the movies: Style Wars. Wild Style and Beat Street to get a good look into the culture.
i wonder where map36 hasnt been
Hes been getting busy lately
Does all of NYC look like this? There's like no buff and lots of really old graffiti everywhere.
These are certain spots now . Everything used to be covered at one time. You used to go up to a wall and walk back and forth cause you couldn't find a spot . And then you clipped someone by axident in the dark and the beef starts
👍👍👍👌👌💪💪👍👍👍👌👌💪💪
The subway is soooo trash At 2:00 they always litter
