This was the first time Russians where allowed to hear American Music in Public. They had to boot leg it and could be sent to prison for posessing it before this. And for the choice of music do you think after 50 some odd years of the "Cold War" we would go over there and sing Lullabies? The Helicopters in the air was to provide airconditioning to the people that many people in one area can literally suck the oxygen out of the air. Surprisingly very. Very few died. It was over 1 million.

@@zoegartham312 Hey girl, I just wanted to let you know that there were actually 56 deaths over the course of this 3-day Monsters of Rock Festival. Along with multiple other incidents including rape and attempted rapes, thefts, assaults with and without deadly weapons etc.... So sad that during a beautiful, ROCKING and momentous event like this, the riffraff of society feels the need to come crawling out of their darkness, commit their evil acts and spread their poison. I guess shitty people will always be around, no matter the circumstance. It really sucks! UGH!! Anyway, I thought you'd like to know some of these things. Peace, light and love....

I cannot take my eyes off the beautiful young mother and her precious infant! She’s a very engaged mother, constantly connecting to her baby , even with just her hands. As a mom of 4 and a grandmother of 2, this makes me so happy to watch. The baby is engaged in the music, but keeps the connection with his mom. You guys are a beautiful family!☮️💜

This was a concert* back in ‘91 that Metallica was a part of. There was supposedly 1.6 million people in attendance (50+ died as per reports), the soldiers were there as enforcement but that quickly fell apart as by the video shows, quite a few turned into just fans of the music. The columns in the distance were actually speaker columns ( the biggest challenge the crews had to deal with as to run the wires without them being disconnected).

The concert took place after and because the berlin wall was taken down. It was a celebratory gift in a sense. The band had never been able to get booked in there before and with the regime change and a new sense of freedom it was a great way to respect the troops in my opinion. The cold war ended in 1991 so it fits the timeline. You gotta appreciate all we do have and all that has been improved upon when you realise that was not that long ago. My grandfather was born in 1930. He is 92 years old and still kicking. I was born in the late 90s so the difference in age let alone experience is vastly overpowering. It is part of what makes me want to keep improving myself and help others along the way if i can.

Nice reaction. They had repeater speakers for the folks in the back. Still used today for festivals. Didn't see any projectors to show the screens for folks in the back. I would tend to think they could only hear it. But for folks who have been on lockdown from music for all their lives. This was their moment. Today they can tell their kids I was there when that happened. Amazing moment in time. Glad it happened when it could at least be recorded in some fashion. I think some of the UFO's that come here are looking for this concert. That's why they come and go so fast. They're like dam worm whole traffic we missed it. Reset the time jump. We out.

check out this group Happy 75th Birthday to FREDDIE STONE, American pastor and musician, best known as a co-founder, guitarist, and vocalist in Sly and the Family Stone, fronted by his brother Sly and including his sisters Rosie and Vet (Born June 5, 1947)
NOTE: The video here is the single EVERYDAY PEOPLE. I've upscaled and improved the color of the original film.
Sly Stone wrote this about how everyone is essentially the same, regardless of race or background.
This song took some inspiration from Mother Goose, adding a twist to the traditional nursery rhyme "rub-a-dub-dub." The familiar three men in a tub - the butcher, the baker, the candlestick-maker - become the butcher, the banker, the drummer, and, in the spirit of the song's message of solidarity among all people, Sly adds: "makes no difference what group I'm in."
Billy Preston played organ on this. Preston has appeared on many famous songs, including some by The Beatles and Rolling Stones.
In America, the song hit #1 in February 1969 and stayed there for four weeks.

Modern artists: our show sold out the arena yesterday.
Metallica: That's cute, our show sold out the entire country in '91.

Harvester Of Sorrow from this is badass. The soldiers were trippin' and some were busting heads. They could not understand.

Really cool seeing your kids watching. You should have them react to Hotel California by the Eagles!!

OMG at that baby! Be sure to take time out each day to "smell the roses" because it's almost like you will blink and they'll be 21.
Those kids knew that music because, while the Soviets could stop a lot of things, they couldn't stop the airwaves caring the radio signals from Radio America bringing American music, and yes messaging, to the people of the USSR. That's how many of them learned the English they do know.
As others have said, yes this was right after the fall of communism and the Berlin wall. For a fascinating lesson in history, look up what's called "the Berlin Airlift". It showed the world, but especially the Soviets what America, and American air power, was capable of. It's history worth checking out.

For anybody who's been a Yankees fan back when we had the phenomenal closing pitcher, Mariano Rivera, this song would play as he was brought out to shut down games.

It was after the military coup.....I was in Moscow then and people were sleeping in the parks to be in Moscow that week.
"Moscow's Monsters of Rock Remembering Russia's biggest-ever rock festival, featuring Metallica's all-time greatest performance and miraculously zero fatalities ksome said). On September 28, 1991."
Or, "reports say out of an estimated 1.6 to 2 MILLION people at the Monsters Of Rock concert at Tushino Airfield in Moscow, September 28, 1991, that headlined AC/DC, and featured Metallica, Pantera, The Black Crowes, Motely Crue, and Queensryche, there were only 54 casualties. This was a video produced event, sponsored by Time Warner, that year. This was a Free concert."

The main guitarist who has the black curly hair is the only one who has long hair still. Looks exactly the same but with now long grey hair. The bassist who kept headbanging his head left the band a good 15 years ago.

But nothing like this. This was the first free air concert with American bands in over 40 years. Tickets were free and several bands went. It was epic!! I woulda gone for sure
