I thought I really knew what I was doing with my surface fishing... I feel I'll be watching this again and probably again. Maybe again. Humbled. Many many thanks for posting.

Hi Brian. Traditionally I have been terrible at surface fishing but thanks to your tips it has transformed my fishing. Having never been confident fishing in the surface I have solely been bottom bait fishing until the beginning of this season. I have now had 28 fish from 4 sessions on the top thanks to your tips. The bivvy brigade of which I was one have been green with envy 🎣

Brilliant videos would it be possible to do a more detailed video of the wooden controller pad fishing set up please it’s the only part of the series of videos I don’t fully understand 🎣👌

I love to fly fish off the surface.
Easy if you have space to cast.
If not I go for a normal surface setup.
Floating fly line and sinking hooklink seems to work best for me.

Nice. I always considered that fly gear and floaters should be good Carp but haven't tried it myself yet!

I fish in the US. I usually chum the water with dog or cat food. When they start to come up to slurp the chumming I will cast a fly made of foam. Then, they will pick it right up. Since I live at a quite urban area, I cannot backcast. I was able to cope with that doing roll cast. I started tying deer hair flies and trim them to the size of the the dog food or cat food. And I realized, after some time fishing, that the carps don't care about the color or the material of the fly. Actually, they like some bright red and other funky color foam fly I cast out to them which look nothing like the the dog or cat food I have chummed with except their sizes. The only time I have problem with fooling the fish is when the wind makes the water surface all choppy. Other than that, happy carping. I usually use a 4wt 9ft, float line and a lot of backing for most of my carping (I have not encountered carp like Benson here, so that is sufficient)

Your preferred way of putting on a vertical control, a dont see how it's a heli set up the hook link want rotate...
Seen Terry Hearn, probably most successful carp angler set up with float stops and beads from along time ago though

I love this series of 4 videos from Brian. It's the most comprehensive surface video tutorial I've found!
Thanks very much for producing it!
I've just ordered his floater fishing book with Chris Ball.
May I ask, at the 10:00 point in the video, Brian reveals a surface waggler that he claims is from Wychwood, but I'm struggling to find anything anywhere online, both in the past or present. Do you know the make/model of this controller please?
    Thanks
    Dave

Most likely these floats were discontinued years ago and maybe wasn't in great demand (just suspecting). The closest design I could find was "Premier Windbeater Carp Controller". Hope it helps.
      Cheers

@@AndrewsKnots thanks for your reply. That was the closest I could find too, but the ones in the video had a larger head that I imagine would give a stronger bolt effect. Maybe a DIY project.

What main line do you use for surface fishing

    • @AndrewsKnots

I personally use braid of about 30-40 lb. where allowed. 👍

Or cast out 3ft hooklink adjustable zig rigs pulled down till fish are on the surface bait...then let them up from below no casting or splashing or baits moving ...do it on 2 rods....... Mayhem. Trust me.
