13 in 1981, now I'm 52.......Everyone is right, time passes by like water on an open hand. 39 years passed in the blink of an eye.
12 and I'm 51 now.
I cant believe the 80s ended.
15 to 54 wtf happened.
I was 13 also and very in tune with everything going on what a amazing begining to an awesome decade! Nothing like it since.
15 in 1981....the best times in my life......the 80's! ❤😁🤘 greatest decade
I quit drinking that year haven’t touched a drop sinse now I’m 65 and still here 👍
Since... good for you. I'm 58 and still drink...
I gave it all up after the 80s , sober 30 yrs . The 80s were wonderful tho .
👌
Awkward.. I was born this year and I'm currently drinking a beer 🤣 . Good for you though bud.
Well done 👍👍
These were the fun year's of my life because MTV was so awesome. Now I'm 57 nothing else is like the old MTV
I was 16 then. Remember how exciting it was when MTV first aired??? 😀
I miss my MTV!
Video killed the radio star.
Internet killed the MTV star.
I miss those days when M in MTV actually means music
Now they should call it G-TV Garbage TV.
Miss those years
I was 15 in 1981. Damn! 34 years! It seems like the blink of an eye. Enjoy your youth
kids because it will be over before you know it. Now back to building my hot tub time
machine
wesley drisdon hi I was fifteen in 1981 too. I know where did the time go. I miss the 80's. So much simpler days.😎
I just graduated high school. three friends and I jumped in my Pacer and traveled around northern Wisconsin for 3 weeks. Man the fun we had. No cell phones tied to our faces, out in the wilderness enjoying life and freedom. The music was the BEST !! Scorpions, Def Leppard, Judas Priest ...those were the days.
wesley drisdon I was 0 in 1981
I was also 15! I remember it well...first time I got...
Dude I wasn't even born yet. I was born the next year. But I remember these movies growing up.
I was born in 1967, I was 14 years old in 1981 i remember all those videos, songs, films, fashion , politics and everything from that glorious year!
I was born in 1955, and remember everything also. It was the best of times; the 80s, and I wish I had never left. Thank goodness I bought lots of records in that decade, and got most, if not all of these great songs. I even still have my 2000 watt Marantz quad receiver, dual cassette deck, two turntables, and 4 huge Infinity speakers I had back then. Still works great, and is used for parties.
super blue thanks 1981 here
Me too
I was one year behind you (1968) and also love these songs & memories.
I turned 18 on 5/18/81....what a GLORIOUS time indeed !! So simple and FUN !!!! WTF HAPPENED ?!!
i miss mtv of the 80's please bring back mtv 80's :)
Damn they Knew how to make music back then.
The 80s were awesome!! In many ways! Music, technology, everything.
Wow this is when mtv actually played real music on tv I miss the 80s.
1981 HS graduate here!! The year our class joined the world!! I personally grabbed all of life I could when I went in active duty in the armed forces just 2 weeks after graduation.
Fast forward 39 years and I’m a retired Naval aviator . Still actively flying professionally with a great career and some great memories!!
Congrats and thank you for your service hawkeye! 🛩️⚓🇺🇸
Thank you for your service, which aircraft did you fly and aircraft carrier were you on.🤗
Thank you for your service Sir!!!!
Same year I graduated. A teenager in the 70s and in my twenties in the 80s. Got my license to drive in 79. And had a 1970 split bumper red Camarillo. I honestly feel very fortunate to have been born in 63. I went to work for the railroad right after graduation. My dad was a boss and he got me on a month after I was out of school. Man I wanna go back and do it all over but I can’t go back I know. As Eddy Money would say. lol
We’re trying to convince our 17 year old son to join but so far it’s not working.
Nothing beats the 80s: Music had meaning and feeling back then. Toys, movies, fashion everything! Miss those years!
I bet most people here are in there 50s like me 54 and miss the good old days.
@Laurie Holdt your young.
Graduated in 81, college, fast cars, cool music, great chicks and cruising the streets.....the best of times
I'm gonna go back to the 80s! who's with me?
I'd go back for a week, then I would come back. I wouldn't want to relive everything again.
Me...... I'll go back with you!
Yes someone please please build a time machine I'm all in guys. Especially now we really need to go back. Great memories 🤔😁
I'll go back to the 80s
When it was worth watchng!!!!
I was just 18 then, dang im old
I do I remember it very well it’s the year I meant my wife we have been together for 40 years
Exciting time to be a 9 year old kid. Lucky enough to have grown up in the 70's-80's.
I miss the 80s so much, great job Richard
I was 6 and remember just about everything in this video. My parents had just divorced. My brother was 9. My Mom just started working at the job where she will retire from this month. Memories
These days were the best.
When MTV was actually "GOOD". Totally SUCKS now!
The awesome 80s brilliant era, how fast has time gone by, how did we arrive in a darker place. Thanks to you tube we can escape to a better time.
those days are over, but not forgotten
I was twenty years old at the time. The 80's is a very good to young...
I was 21 had a brand new Harley Davidson Superglide and a Chevy van a good job ,,I was in the best years of my life.Where did the years go .
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼❤️👏🏼🙌🏼🇦🇺got a 1988 Fxrs-sp and 79 F-100 Ranger XLT and I am as grateful as grace !
Where did the jobs go ?????
I was six when John Lennon died and i didn’t think anything could affect me so strongly (as strongly as a six year old can comprehend, anyway). But then came MTV came into the picture just after I turned seven. My mom was 20. She had this on 24/7. It affected me immensely. I was already surrounded by all kinds of music from a very early age. This clinched it! Intro to music television and cable tv while us kids still wanted to play outside all day. This was a great time to be a kid! Lol!
@@americangirl6029 you were too young for John Lennon wtf?
Holy cow! I'm 30 and can't afford a car right now :( I bet you had an amazing life back then, and hope you're having a similar one right now.
Ah.. the 80’s. Good times indeed.
Wow, I will never forget 1981!
I was 12 years old and was just starting to get my pubes. I remember I couldn't wear jocks for a few weeks coz of the itchiness. Eventually they got long enough so I could wear undies again. They got really long so I started blow drying them after my shower.
I would try and replicate Duran Duran's hairstyles. One week I would have Simon Le Bon pubes, then John Taylor tufts, Nick Rhodes roughies and so forth. My styles were a big hit in my neighbourhood, especially with the Girls on film.
About a week later, I was at a friend's house listening to music. Prince had released Controversy in October, and my friend had just acquired a copy! What an awesome sound. I thought this man is a genius. I want to style my pubes like Prince!
So I asked mum if I could borrow her hot rollers, just the mini ones, because Prince had really tight curls and my pubes were too straight from my Duran Duran days!
I told mum it was for a school project, and she could have them back when doves cry.
I showed my friend my Prince styled pubes. He flipped out! OMG, whadda ya call that George?, he exclaimed!
I said Johnny, this is my horny toad. Wow, can you teach me how to do my pubes, my friend pleaded.
We had so much fun over the years. Styling our pubes into our favourite 80's artists.
I had a thrilling Michael Jackson and I dared anyone to see if they could beat it.
My friend come up with a fantastic Madonna inspired do, that was borderline genius.
I'm now 51. I still have my pubes. These days I'm rocking a more laid back Sinead o Connor look, which nothing compares.
I'm now doing 30 years for 1st degree public blow drying of the pubus, on a complete stranger. Yes I have a sickness. I know with rehab and only my mouth to blow dry, I will be OK. I am using one of the prison guards phone to watch youtube, he likes me because I showed him how to style his pubes into Ricky Martin and Beyonce. I can see on youtube that the world is not a good place atm. Don't despair my friends, nothing lasts forever, change is coming.
Take care everyone and thank you.
Love George.
P.S.
R.I.P. Mr. Michael Jackson
Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson
Still can't believe these two are gone.
Great year I was 17 graduated from high school . class of 81 yea best times
Yes indeed !! I as well...1981 Pittsburg, Ca. PIRATES Grad !! ( I was 18 on 5/18/81).......FANTASTIC time to be young !!!! It all seems like a dream now at almost 56 !! WOW !!!
I was 15 at this time, wow so long ago,now I am 51! Where in the hell did the years go?
T Holmes You're just a baby!!! I was 16!! LOL 😍
Same here man born in 1966
the 80's was fabulous :)
😍😍🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗💋💋💗💗💗💗miss the good times and music...the year I graduated!!!!
I was 19 . Remember those times well.
I miss those days
The year I graduated High School. MTV was so cool the first 5 or 6 years, just current rock videos 24/7. It stayed on all the time in the homes I lived with with my buddies.
Best times ever! Sad to say many of these artists have passed away! Thanks for the flashbacks! 2020 sucks!
Yes many of the artists and many of the actors are no longer with us.
Turned 21 that November! The early to mid 80's were the best part of my life!!! The music! Before marriage and divorce. Concerts! Friends! The Michigan Panthers of The USFL!!! Many memories that were really good!!! My 2nd time in New Albany, Mississippi!!!
Damn! Brings me so many memories! Thank you!!
JOURNEY!!! Best band EVER!!!!!!
I was in 8th grade when MTV hit the airwaves. My siblings and I were addicted to MTV morning, afternoon and night. I loved Mark Goodman as my favorite VJ.
To bad MTV is no where to what it used to be and for me that sucks.
This was the best year of my life, a much simpler time!😀😀😀
Simpler yes compared to now, glad I grew up at that time!!!!
Sure was!!!!!
Yes indeed, I was 13 at the time with my whole life in front of me. I must say we definitely were blessed to have experienced those days. Thank God I lived through the 80s. And would go back in a heartbeat 🤔😁
Does anyone have a time machine i can borrow?
Yea...
your looking at it!
Check with MJ Fox. He may want to go back with you though and take some garbage with you!😂🎇😎
It's really really sad that those good old times are gone, it's like right now we live in such a miserable and depressing year right now compared from the good old days, I really really wish they would bring back those good old 80's back right now.
Those were some happy & carefree days.
We sure didn't realize how good we had....."youth is wasted on the young"...
You can thank the statists and Marxists for the mess we're in today.
I was 58 years old and got my girl pregnant watching MTV IN 81! GEEZE!
This was the year I was born. 1981 Baby!!
Lj9219 July 11 1981 here and you?
Me too. February 27 1981
You're too young to remember the 80's.
christdragon I am not. Sure I wasn’t doing adult stuff back then. I was doing kids stuff. I remember my childhood of the 80’s and 90s. Anything prior to ‘83 is a blur for me.
Nicky Nick feb1980 baby
1981 the year I arrived to the USA, a lot of memories 😢
Good Times and great music❤️
I was 12 years old in 1981. Best years of my life the 80s 👍😎 now only memories....
So many great tunes in 81'
I lost my virginity to Open Arms, Drove a car, Smoked Pot, Started Drinkin, Found Heavy Metal, etc.
Turned 13 that year too!
😳💀
What?
Really??
the year I graduated from high school
This was an era where the 70s Music was slowly fading but at the same time blending in with the 80s.
Pacey Mauldin
In the early 80's, New Wave/Sythpop/Post-Disco was in its early development since Disco was still popular, but by the mid-80's Disco was completely dead.
Pacey Mauldin Yes, indeed.
I was 12 and loving the new sounds coming in after the disco era.
It's been said that a new decade doesn't really come into it's own until after the first three years.
@@plymouth491
I've been telling people that for years, the iconic things about the 80's didn't start on January 1st 1980, just like MTV, it may have first aired on Aug 1st 1981 but it's influence didn't kick in on Aug 2nd 1981, it wasn't until a few years later that it started influencing things, at first it played the music that radio stations were playing and made popular but unfortunately after a few years it became the biggest influence on music, that's when music really started going downhill.
Poor Christopher Cross, in 1981 he was poised to be the biggest music star of the 80's, then a few years later because of MTV when the way a musician looked became even more important than it had already been he was done, I've often wondered how big he would have been had MTV not came along.
@@dukecraig2402 Exactly... Rome wasn't built in a day
What made MTV so fantastic is the fact that it gave a storyline as well as a face to the music.ll
I must say it was the best time ever and truly could never be replaced, come on now I know you want to say it, I Want My MTV..you all have a great evening and by all means God bless the 80s.
Turned 21 in 81.
That’s all I remember.
Journey, Kool and the Gang, and Rick james! Ah those great songs what a way to spend my teen years! Dancing dancing dancing! Thanks for the post
Got to see Kool and the Gang perform at Grad Night at Disneyland, around May/June 1981. What an awesome night that was!
@@chrisdavid9989 Disneyland? Wow
I was born in 1949 and got to live through the 50-60-70-80-90, with all of the hair and clothes styles and of course, the music. And the TV shows and movies. Plus, I was a Marine Nam Vet 68-69. BTW...I LOVED the 80s
Awesome decade of the 80’s I was 10 years old I wish I could go back but I can’t so all had do is keep dreaming about it.
Loved the 1980s! The shuttle started flying, we had video games, the first PC came out, the Sony Walkman, "You know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing!" (Brooke Shields for Calvin Klein jeans), Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, Members Only jackets, Nike athletic shoes with a blue swish mark on the side, Record Bar, Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles, and their sons, William & Harry, were born in the 1980s, feathered hair (for boys and girls), The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi, History of the World Part One, CHiPs (Erik Estrada, my heartthrob), An Officer and a Gentleman, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, Wargames, The Witches of Eastwick, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Shining, Top Gun, Footloose, Roadhouse, and Fatal Attraction were great movies! The Berlin Wall, which was built in 1961, was torn down in 1989. Some catchphrases of the 80s were: "Where's the beef?", "Who shot J.R.?", "Is it live, or is it Memorex?", "Who ya gonna call?", "I pity the fool.".
Some sad moments, too: John Lennon was murdered by a crazy fan (1980), Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley (who wanted to impress actress Jody Foster), Pope John Paul II was shot by Mehmet Ali Aga (who was hired by the KGB to kill the Pope because he supported the solidarity movement in Poland), Egyptian president Anwar Sadat was assassinated by Muslim extremists during a military review, all in 1981. The space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986, just 73 seconds after launch. The entire crew died.
In 1982, an Air Florida 737 crashed into the 14th Street Bridge in Washington, DC, shortly after taking off in a snowstorm from National Airport. The next day, Howard Stern made a joke about the crash on his radio show. He pretended to call the offices of Air Florida, and asked them how much would a one-way ticket from National Airport to the 14th Street Bridge cost. In 1989, a United Airlines DC-10 crashed in Sioux City, IA, after suffering a total hydraulic failure (112 died, 184 survived). In 1983, a Soviet Su-15 Interceptor shot down a Korean Airlines 747 over Sakhalin Island because it had strayed off course (the fault of the KAL crew) over forbidden Soviet airspace. All the passengers died. The Soviets claimed they did so because they believed it to be a spy plane. In 1983, NBC news anchor Jessica Savitch died when her car went off the road during a heavy rainstorm, and into a canal. In 1983, the U.S. Marines barracks in Lebanon were destroyed by 2 truck bombs. 307 people died.
And MTV (Music Television) debuted in 1981, and they actually showed music videos, unlike today. Today, MTV really stands for Maternity Television, with all those nitwit teen mom shows.
And the music....oh, the music! Just wonderful. Rap and hip-hop debuted also, and it was fun to listen to then, unlike today. Rap has turned into crap.
The 1980s were so special, and it wasn't just the music or the pop culture. There is something about the 80s I just can't put my finger on, but it was a GREAT decade! I miss it! :(
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👌🏼🙌🏼👏🏼you’ve said it lady
I sure do miss being a kid,I was 11 in 1981.And I was pretty wild.Long hair, leather jacket, earing's and a bad ass attitude.Smokin pot, drinking whiskey, dropping LSD and chasing girl's.Man those were the day's.I guess not much has changed,I just don't drink any more.I get way to crazy lol
Fantastic video, in 1981 I was a senior in High School. This brought back so many memories, also, God! am I old.
How many of these songs are still played today? A lot of Millennials know these tunesDamn, ‘81 really kicked ass!
I was 10 and LOVING life! The ‘80s were awesome. The music was everything 😎
I've thought 1981 was a very underrated year for pop music, a lot of my favorite songs are from that year, does anybody remember the "General Hospital" rap song that came out during the late summer/early fall of that year?
Best dancing music everttt!,😊😊😊😊😊😊
Some great editing going on here, the music fit most of the scenes.
I was 26 yrs in 1981, I guess that makes me The Grandfather commenting, I loved MTV it was great in the early years. Loved The VJs.
Great video. The only thing missing was Van Halen. That was my 80's
The year my mother graduated high school. Even though I wasn't born until 9 years later I would've loved to have experienced the 80's. The music from this decade is absolutely second to none, and the culture was over-the-top.
ME TOO !
Absolutely. It was like no other decade since. I was 5.
'81 was the year I graduated high school, moved out on my own, and began college. It was a great decade, with great music -- 1984 was one of the best years for top releases, IMO -- and great movies. So much happening in that decade... one of the best decades of my life.
Don’t stop believeing was My class anthem when I graduated for high school back in 1987. 1981was a great yr in music . I was going into the 7th grade that yr ! & I 13 yrs old at the time . Then in nov of 81i turned 14 yrs old. Seeing all this stuff posted really brings back so many memeries ! Better times back then vs today by far ! I wish I could turn the hands of time & go back in time & stay there ! No worries ! What a yr 1981 was ! That was the yr Walter Cronkite did his last evening news broadcast on cbs on March (6th) I’ll never forget the attempt on Ronald Reagan. On March 30th) of 81 . Jonh Hinckley JR. was the one . Crazy .back in December of 1980 on (8th ) Jonh Lennon was shot . I was 13 yrs old at the time in the (6th) grade . Never forget it as long as I live.
Graduated HS in '81. Great decade of music beginning.
I was 9 in 1981, totally remember getting up at 5am to watch the royal wedding
Some very good memories💕👍
Dear god. The movies and music. What a great year. Wish I could go back.
I remember "mad max" back then with Mel Gibson .
I forgot just how much good music came out in 1981. I was just getting into the Marines and time just flew by from there, wild and crazy times!
I remember when MTV first started with the Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star". I have it on a VHS tape that was in the machine already. August 1, 1981. I wish those days were back. I also married my second husband in June of that year;divorced him in 1991. And the first launch of the Columbia.
I loved that song!...I was in a bar for the launching of MTV
I was 18 on that now classic day !! We " spreed " ...the " blow " was flying and the herb was lit !! I am 56 in 5 weeks !! THOSE great days went by way too fast !! I thank GOD , I made it this far !! Classic era to be young and in the bay area !!
The best year I saw MTVwhen it began I was in high school the best thanks
I was sixteen how I miss the 80 s music there is nothing like it
I miss that era. I was 9 y.o.
WOW! Having major flashbacks...great stuff!!

My wife said to me ,, in 1981 get the kids away from the TV there watching too much of that MTV stuff....
I went in ,,told them UR watching too much TV they agreed with me...
They said,,,can we watch one more and I said yes & just sat down with them....
2 hours later my wife came in and was yelling at me...
I got hooked!
Last month,bought a MTV
Producers production. Organizer...
It was the only thing on the internet from those years.
Great I LOVE 😘👏💝💞
LOVE =LEGS OPEN VERY EASY
Head bangers ball was the best!
I remember watching the very first space shuttle launch live on tv in 1981. How do you miss that?
Yea I remember. I was in my first year of the university. The sky was blue and the sun was shining brightly. And I still had a dream of my future.
Yeah.. what great memories.. i remember being grounded for months at a time , stuck in my room no tv no stereo only allowed to come out of my room for school. Hated by my mom and stepfather. So i moved to live with my father 1500 miles away , where i only got beatings once a week if i was lucky. Yep i remember it like yesterday.. just like my 16th birthday where my dad walks in the door throws an icecream cake at me and let me know in so many words what a p.o.s. i am . I vividly remember throwing up blood from trying to take my own life with poison. Thanks youtube i really needed this suggestion. Made my day.
I Graduated from High school ..Fun Times 1981!
the best music 80!!!¡!!!¡
I was 12 and now I'm 51 how me and my siblings wish we could go back in time, we lost our mom in 2015 and my dad in 2017 and miss them every day. Time goes by in the blink of an eye we are left with nothing but memories 💔😢.
By Far , The Best Of 1981 Video Hits I've seen so far , Nicely Done.
This video WAS PERFECT in capturing the visuals and sounds, the deeply rooted and extremely fond memories I had as a 13 year old in 1981. I remember all the songs, saw all the movies, even "On Golden Pond". Right after the start of the School year around mid to late Aug I went over to my new friends house, they had cable and I remember watching MTV for the very first time. I as blown away. 1981 was an amazing year. The video was a mind blown overload for me. I plan on watching it again shortly.
I remember some of this as a kid
The last age of creativity.👍🇺🇲
My mom was born is 80 and I was born in 2000. Love 80s music 🥰
thanks for the trip
Nice transition on "9 to 5"!
Ah....flashback to my teenage years.👍
That's when America was America! MTV played rock, the NFL was our favorite sport, NBA was about to have Michael Jordan and Larry Bird and Baseball had Reggie Jackson and we were all Americans! They stood for our flag and had respect for the commander in chief! Now, I couldn't care less about sports! Sad times
I want to go back!
