    few things to bear in mind. First thing when deciding to change the door lock module (DLM) after being sure that there is the problem. I'm talking here about B5- B5.5 models of passat. I think its the same is with audi a4. The locking system operates on very specific way. There is a thing called dead lock in DLM. What is it. When for example you go outside of car and lock the car with remote with only one press you will initiate dead lock from DLM triggered by the CCM. The dead lock itself features 2 key important facts beside obvious locking part and those are: first it triggers alarm and second you cannot open the door within the car via the indoor handle after lock (thats why its called dead lock). On the other hand you have normal lock. That one is also triggered via remote but only if you press the lock button two time in a row within 2 seconds. The difference is that way you don't have alarm triggered and guess what you can open the door within the car via the handle. The indoor switch for locking the doors is basically the same as that normal lock. The purpose is obvious (someone can exit the vehicle after the lock without alarm being triggered). So back to start of this comment. If you are changing the fault DLM lock be absolutely sure that you are getting the DLM with 5 micro switches in it otherwise it won have dead lock in it and you will be able only to lock the door, and after triggering normal lock without alarm that door won't stay locked and It will auto unlock. The reason for that are low cost aftermarket non original VW parts that cost almost 3 time cheaper and they DO NOT HAVE a 5 micro-switches inside the electronic part of DLM but only 3. Regarding the micro switches: 2 of them tells the switch to lock or unlock, other 2 switches checks weather the door is locked or unlocked (those are the one that are missing on aftermarket no original ones) and the last one is located on mechanical part of the DLM (that one checks whether the doors are opened or closed). So that's about it. If you have some tools there is nothing you cant change by yourself but if you are changing it on the rear doors be aware of the windows annoying circle pin that has to be removed in order to release the window.

From the outside, reach inside and open one of the doors. Alarm should turn on. If yes, then that door is ok. Turn the alarm off and lock the car again. Do the same for all the other doors. The central convenience module stores alarm trigger events... using a scan tool (not a generic obd scan tool) one can read what triggered the alarm. Once you know what triggered the alarm... you can look for the problem in that area.

      Yes, the micro switch or solder joint that is supposed to recognize key turning / position is not working. Replace the module or inspect it for faulty components. I couldn't actualy split the module in half as you did in your video, didn't want to force not to brake something in it, but i cleaned it out with contact spray, and now it works wonderfully, but my problem is i made a slight mistake. I din't knew that when you undo the screw that holds the lock cylinder, you only have to rotate the screw untill it stops, and i unscrewed it untill i got it out. When i wanted to mount the cilinder back on, the mounting clip fell off. My problem is i don't know how to put it back on cause it doesn't hold the cilinder in place and it keeps sliding out by itself when i open/close the door. I'm waiting for a chance to re-record a case like this, so that I can talk about what is going on. • @richardanguluan9538
      @richardanguluan9538 Před 9 lety

      ***** so problem could be the wiring harness? It would work sometimes then it wont. I thought the door lock mechanism was the problem but guess not. So even if the other controls work, the harness for the door lock module might be shot?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 9 lety

      Richard Anguluan Don't know... what I meant was that with a wiring diagram, you can see all the components and how they tie to one another. It could be a bad splice / connection in a wiring harness, or it could be a bad connection at the driver door module (window regulator motor & door module are one and the same), or an issue with the comfort control module. etc. etc.
      I had a car last week that would unlock the door with the remote, but would not lock with the remote... disconnected the battery cables, touched them together for a few seconds, reattached the cables to the battery... and all was fine again!

    Question for you. Ive read that the lock module has window microswitches as well. Do you know what they do? I had to change my window regulator and lost window function. Also lost lock function but playing with the connector on it fixed that. The door open function works 1 out of 1000 times so i know it has some issues.
    Moving the wires on the back of the plug dont change anything. Moving the connector itself on the lock module will cause it to detect and not detect that the door is open.
    Hoping this does fix the issue but was looking for your input as im sure you have dealt with alot of issues related to this.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 8 lety

      The power window motor is the "door lock module & window module". The lock actuator is the door lock / latch.
      The door lock actuator / door latch has switches that tell the comfort control module if the door is open / closed / locked or unlocked.
      Using the key in the door handle, you can roll the windows up or down, by holding the key in the lock or unlock position for more than 2 seconds.
      The comfort module receives this signal and tells the door lock module / window motor module to roll the window up or down.
      If all you did was change the regulator... things "electrically" should not get affected / be the same as before the replacement.
      The switches or solder joints in the door lock actuator fail with age and that can affect things. Door will not lock or unlock with remote or lock / unlock button inside of car. Dome light will not turn on when door is opened... alarm will not go on when door is opened using inside handle (when alarm is set).
      If things are worse after changing the regulator... look for wiring issues or bad contacts. Or it could be that the old parts decided to let go and act-up more (solder joints in lock actuator).
      Power window motors / door lock modules are a rare item to fail... unless you find water damage at the connector.

    • @radzer0966
      @radzer0966 Před 8 lety

      +Thomas EXOVCDS why do people say that the door latch has microswitches for window up and down? Or is that the part that rolls it up and down that your referring too? If that's all it is do you have any idea why I wouldn't have any roll up or down. Or even attempt. Everything else looks good. No corrosion in any connectors neither. Just strange it all worked until unplugged.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 8 lety

      +Edward Sessum If the window switch inside the car does not do anything... hold the key in the lock or unlock position outside in the door handle.
      This will verify if the comfort module receives a signal from the door and then triggers the window module.
      If nothing happens, it could still be an issue with the window motor or wiring... it's just a quick check to see "if something happens" (window movement.
      If all connectors are plugged in, all fuses are OK... my next step would be to attach a scan tool to the comfort module and then check if it receives a signal from the switches in the door and the door lock.
      If the comfort module receives signals for opening or closing the winfow... then look for power & ground issues at the window motor h harness plug.
      If none of the windows work... look for something they have in common. Fuses & comfort module. Comfort module should be OK if the remote is able to lock & unlock the car.

      +99AudiMan09 Air leaks for the central locking will NOT affect the engine, since the electric vacuum pump is it's own / separate system from the engine. If you do NOT hear any buzzing noise from the right rear of the vehicle when locking or unlocking, then the pump is not doing anything. An extended buzzing sound when locking or unlocking usually points to a vacuum leak in the system. You either have a blown fuse or a faulty vacuum pump.

      @@aataccountingauditingtaxat4919 Yes, it could be that both door lock actuators are bad (car thinks that the doors are open and keeps the inside lights on). Using a scan tool, you can check "door status" (open / closed). Once you confirm that the door lock actuators are bad, you can buy & install them.

      @@aataccountingauditingtaxat4919 You should still be able to open the boot with a dead battery... via the mechanical connection the key makes when turning the key. If the boot does not open when turning the key, then the lock linkage in the boot is disconnected or out of adjustment.

    Hey, I have a 2001 VW Jetta and for the driver and passenger doors the car doesn't know if the doors are open or closed. I checked the solder points inside the module but they were all fine. Sometimes when I lock the car the cars alarm will go off 30 seconds later or so and stay on for 30 seconds. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

      Hi Thomas hoping you can help. I only have a Manual key for my 2000 gold and I unlock the drivers door but if anyone opens the passenger door or boot before I put the key in the ignition it triggers the alarm. I've replaced the module on the drivers side and it hasn't helped. Could it be ye passenger side at fault. Thanks in advance.

      William Ball New or used? How are you opening / unlocking the other doors? Still sounds like an issue with the lock actuator / module. If you have a scan tool (vag-com), you can view door actuator status to determine what is going on.

    • @williamball380
      @williamball380 Před 9 lety

      It was a new module. I unlock manually from the drivers door have tried turning the key twice til it beeps twice and the alarm still goes off when the passenger door is opened if the ignition hasn't been switched on before. Could it be the door wiring loom? Thanks

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 9 lety

      William Ball Weird... try a capacitive discharge. Disconnect the battery clamps and touch the cables / clamps together for a few seconds.
      Reconnect the cables to the battery and see if the same thing happens.
      My next step would be to check what the central convenience module sees when you lock / unlock the door... as well as if any fault codes are stored in the module.

      Thomas EXOVCDS 04 vw beetle. Automatic. I put door cables on the inside of the door panel. It won’t open from the inside or outside.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 4 lety

      The cable on the inside door handle / lever clips into the back of the door panel. It could be that the cable has popped out of its seat (there are 2 little hooks that are at the end of the cable that are supposed to hold the cable in its place). If the door does not open from the outside, it could be that the pull cable for the outside door handle is in the wrong position. Does the lock / unlock rod by the window (where the LED is) go up & down as it should?
      To reposition the outside door handle cable... pull the door handle away from the door. Using a skinny pick / screwdriver... push the black plastic puck (that sits in the door handle groove) towards the inside of the car. That should allow the lock mechanism to reset. You can see me detach the release cable puck in this video at 1:04
      czcams.com/video/IAfNc14qiKM/video.html
      Pull the handle away from the door and try to push that black puck in (with the key cylinder in place).

    Similar issue. I press lock on my remote and all doors lock except driver door. My alarm can only be armed if i lock my door with the key, also if im in the car to lock the driver door I have to press the lock down instead of pushing the lock button. VW dealership says $300.00 to fix door lock issue, ouch!

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 10 lety +1

      The problem is usually with the module... but can sometimes be because of wiring issues in the door jam. Here's a DIY if you feel like trying to repair it yourself:

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  Před 5 lety +1

      The video has NOTHING to do with electronic FOB.
      A fault with the "central locking" system is demonstrated here. The issue happens even when using the key in the door. I used the remote so I did not have to use the key on the outside of the door.

      I don't know if you can read or understand English... the video is a simple demonstration of a faulty module. The light in the door does not come on when the door is open. When the door is locked, the alarm does not come on when the door is opened. The warning buzzer does not come on when the headlights are on with the key removed and the door is open.
      A slightly better video here.
