  • I have never used rubber bands to hold the apex seals in...until now. Honestly this went way easier than expected. Stoked to have this engine all done, and get focused up on some new paths to follow at the shop.

    Bro the best part about what your doing building and sharing is not keeping secrets that even .some homies I know keep secret for no reason … basically just building an engine … which creates discrepancies for absolutely no fucking reason … thank you for helping us build confidence instead of creating anxiety

    I run the Turblown stud kit in my FC T2 as well. The studs are made by ARP for Turblown. Much stronger than factory tension bolts for sure. On the FC though you need to bottom tap the front iron all the way to the bottom of the holes so that the studs don't interfere with the flywheel and also to get maximum strength. It is a pain to tap and a little nerveracking as if you tap too deep, you can break through the hole and the iron is junk, I took my time, haha. Anyhow, great content, always enjoy your vids. Keep it up.

    See!?!? You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!!! Hopefully in the future you’ll offer an in-person stacking class…. make some coin all while getting that extra pair of hands you need. 😉

      Although you could make a video of your stack, then cough up some bucks to Erich to check your build.

    Over the last 25 yrs, mostly while my 3 boys were starting to drive, we have owned 9 rx7’s (5 were parts cars) and I just purchased my 2nd 2004 Rx8 with 30 psi…. Lol…time to rebuild….
    ?? Where is the the best place / price to buy OEM Parts
    Thanks again….. love the channel

    Would you tell us why you left the apex sprigs in when they were put into the rotor? If they were left out during installation and installed after the rotor was in the housing no flying holding bands.

    Random question regarding BABY bridgeports....how much overlap is needed to get that signature lopey idle? I don't plan on boosting the 13B I'm building (from an 88 non-turbo), so doing a full on Bridgeport would be a complete waste of reliability and already less-than-desirable fuel economy. I am curious if I had a SLIVER of over lap (like 2-3 mm) if that would be enough to get those braps without sacrificing TOO much. I plan on doing a mild to moderate street port for the intakes.
    Basically, my end goal is going to be ~200 ish HP, with that iconic idle.
    Plans to drop it either into a 79 Chevy Luv or an 80s Subaru Loyale/GL wagon with a dual range tranny (unless I can get my hands on an 82-85 FB for a steal, in which case, it's obviously going into that). Luv came with 4.10 ratios in the 5 speed 4x4 package, and the Subaru came with 3.9 but has a 4.44 ratio available. Both would be SUITABLE candidates for a 4x4 rotary swap due to gearing, especially after cranking that rotary up a lil.

    Just fit second hand apex seals in the slots without springs.lay rotor down pull out apex and install new ones.this keeps corner seals in place.its the corners that catch the assist piece.even if they break away half way down they still go down if everything's square...also remove excess glue..looks like a lot on the side...also the issue with assist piece in full bridge is mostly due to lack of support on the tip..when the housing is chamfered the assist piece has no external support. Only side.

      Compression test or hear it run, bore scope into the exhaust ports to check for chatter and chrome flaking

    im rebuilding my engine, and my housing has a slight groove about 4mm in from the edge, that goes for about 2 inches in the exhaust side, what would that mean if I assembled the engine with it, and would it cause any serious power loss?

    If you use a normal rubber band you dont have to cut it firts startup it wil get rid of it without anny damage and use alot of vassiline

    I was looking to run the Turblown studs on a boosted S5 6 port setup but wasnt sure how much Horsepower/PSI it would be able to handle safely. Has anyone been able to build such a setup with a smedium turbo like the GTX2867R or GTX2071R?

    do you use templates for porting or do you just eyeball it? i imagine with all your experience you could do it with your eyes closed

    • @RADPotential
      @RADPotential  Před 2 lety

      I have templates, but I also have some changes and preferences I do within the templates. A few weeks back I uploaded videos on the porting for this engine.

    Not sure why you want a 2002 Bathurst type R from Oz they all came from Japan as they were not released here. Cut out the middle man. There are a few youtubers who are in the scene in Japan and maybe able help you to find 1 at the auctions.

    • @RADPotential
      @RADPotential  Před 2 lety

      Everywhere I see them, they are all for sale down under. I guess I don't see many in Japan auctions because they can't be imported to the states yet.

    • @ADudesRotary
      @ADudesRotary Před 2 lety

      @@RADPotential True you have a 25year import rule, ours is very similar with the exception of being able to import cars not released in this country, as long as they pass Australian design rules. There are a few people who purchase cars and then store them a couple of years before they are within the 25 year rule, avoiding the sudden surge from other buyers entering the market.
      As an aside the motor you could possibly be interested here in Australia would be the Ford Barra a straight six capable of some impressive hp, replacing the pony 6 with it in the US makes for a cheap but contemporary Mustang. But then you are a Chevy boy.
