Star Trek: Nemesis Fan Edit - The Wedding (with Deleted Scenes)

  • This is my second edit of a segment from Star Trek: Nemesis, this time of the opening wedding scene. Like with the ending of this film, there were some amazing deleted scenes that show how the characters are feeling and how the events of the story are affecting them.
The changes I made here include:
    - Added a deleted scene titled, "Wesley's New Mission," which shows Picard and Beverly talking with Wesley, who explains that he will be serving with Riker aboard the Titan.
    - Added a second deleted scene titled, "Chateau Picard 2267." This scene is excellent. Picard and Data discuss how the wedding has affected Picard, and we see in both of these deleted scenes that the jovial, relaxed attitude Picard had when giving the wedding toast was kind of an act to hide his feelings about the family breaking apart. This scene also has Picard's first mention of "new worlds," a phrase he also says to Shinzon later.
    - I added some moving star backgrounds to the shots with green screen, and added in the suite version of "The Inner Light" during Picard and Data's talk. I figured that the famous theme from an episode about family would be a nice touch to this scene, and it is such a lovely piece of music.
I hope you like this edit of mine. Methinks that many of the deleted scenes for this film would have made the final product a lot stronger had they been kept in :)

@Honeycutt, you put the HEART BACK INTO "Star Trek - Nemesis".
Before hand, I watched your superb video "Star Trek: Nemesis Ending Fan Edit - Data's Farewell (with Deleted Scenes)" and as with this video, you can see a DISGUSTING waste of so many beautiful scenes.
The BIGGEST asset of "Star Trek - The Next Generation" was the TNG cast being so close in real life and behind the camera. That translated into every scene.
TNG was a special TV family, but also, the viewer's family. We learned and grew with the cast.
If they ever release a special edition with all these scenes put back in?
"Star Trek - Nemesis" would be seen as the Next Generation's perfect swan song complete with EVERYTHING which made the show and cast a CLASS act.
Sadly, this film, is another victim of suits who treat the audience as morons. They think the audience don't want anything that you have to ENGAGE (pun intended) and invest yourself into until the end?
All the best films explore the characters and connect with us on a human level.
      David

In truth Star Trek has always been more about the human condition than spaceships or aliens. Gene Roddenberry used the backdrop of space to tell us stories about life and human nature, as well as using characters like Spock and Data to reflect on what it is to be human.

Your fan edits have really shown that this movie had a heart and soul that was left on the cutting room floor. I found the plot problematic (a human as Romulan praetor, an exact clone of Picard that looks nothing like him, etc), but your edits show that it really could have been a much better movie than it was.

Oh, how I agree that it could've been way better. I hated it because of the unexplained inconsistencies with the ending of the series: seeing Wesley in uniform after he quit Starfleet to join the Traveler, Riker and Troi together when the series ended with Troi and Worf getting together, and so on. And I too thought Picard's clone was ridiculous, and didn't like that the clone had the hots for Troi.

Wesley's (speaking) appearance shouldn't have been removed from the final cut of the film, and you've reinserted it here in a seamlessly fluid way.
The Picard/Data scene looks so much better with the resolution increased and the moving starfield in place of greenscreen; 'The Inner Light' theme was a nice touch as well (and had me nearly welling up), but I do feel that the music works best within the last 40-45 seconds of the video - given the quiet, personal nature of the conversation, editing music into a scene adds as much as it takes away, but that's what fan-cuts and experimentation is for (not a criticism btw :) )

He comes across as the angry douchebag that Wil Wheaton often plays in other roles (e.g. The Guild) rather than the wide-eyed kid who was fascinated by the universe around him. They could try to advance the Wesley character, in which case the delivery would make a bit more sense. But then they lines would need to be updated to match. Just watched Nemesis again yesterday. Seeing this edit is lovely. I really like these deleted scenes and others reincorporated into a full movie edit.
    My favourite are:
    - Worf's private chat with Picard about the dangerous situation they were entering into
    - the extended scene of Beverley and Picard where she reassures him he is not anything like Shinzon
    - Picard expressing how he felt realising Shinzon was a clone of himself
The film was poorer without them, although the runtime might have been too long and so would have reduced cinema viewings and then profit for the film makers, I suppose.
One thing about Picard and Data's conversation here that doesn't make full sense to me is Data's wonder at the 'confluence of emotion' - namely, the simultaneous expression of pleasure and sadness he observed at the wedding. This is odd to me considering he himself experienced this at the end of Generations when he found his cat Spot. He wondered then why he was happy to see Spot and yet crying. Troi explained that that was perfectly normal and so he would have understood that then. I'm sure in the 8 years between then and Nemesis he would have further grasped this reality and seen more 'confluences of emotion' in others and in his own emotions with his emotion chip. Oh well, a little nit-pick of mine....

I found it interesting that Data was seemingly mimicking Picard's tasting of the wine, I would have thought that after serving on the Enterprise as long as he has Data would be familiar with this method of drinking wine.

Adding "The Inner Light" theme after Data examines the flute was a masterstroke of directing. Well done. I wish they had left this in.... Beautiful music nonetheless, but true fans will get both the physical and emotional reference as Picard talks about "the passage of time". (( _In the episode "The Inner Light" Picard is "posessed" by a Ressikan probe and experiences 40 years of life on a primitive planet as a humanoid race. 40 years pass for him subjectively while only 25 minutes pass for the rest of the crew_ ))

The thing I always hated about the wedding part of the movie is that we only got a few seconds of Brent (Data) singing. I really, really wish that part had been a little longer. Most songs are only a couple minutes long anyway, so it's not like it would have added a huge amount to the length of the movie.

We don't know - perhaps there's hope for Jon Luc and Beverly yet? Timey-wimey things happening in Picard and the announcement of the return of the TNG cast in addition to the regular Picard crew for Ssn. 3, makes me wonder if perhaps there's hope yet for the two of them.
Ok, he was interested in Laris, but Prime Laris was talking about leaving before he was called back into service to the Federation, and it seems her body was somehow taken over and brought back in time, in the events leading up to the divergence in the timelines, and the entity in her body doesn't know who Laris is... Anyway, my point is, it sounds like Picard isn't going to wind up with Laris. So, perhaps he and Beverly will wind up together after all.
In any event, this cut scene between him and Data fits so perfectly with the Picard series! I'd really like to see if perhaps they use it as a memory of his, sometime during Ssn. 3.

Music from "The Inner Light" was a nice touch but I think could have been softer overall (I find it distracting as it is, almost fighting with the actors' dialog), and definitely should be a super slow crescendo from when it starts to the end of the scene.. still, gosh, if you read the script vs the movie we were given, what an even greater movie it would have been... Riker's "Don't worry, hell is dark" after he drops the Viceroy... anyway.. thanks for doing this!

    • @christinacody8653

@@didomenico-art Because the scene didn't make the cut into the final film, they decided that it didn't fit with both Wil's life choices (choosing to be an interviewer and essentially a Trek/nerd journalist) and Wesley's story arc. The surprise cameo was acceptable, but I think seeing Wesley as the voice waking up the Captain (Riker) about night shift issues would have been interesting.

They needed to quickly rebuild the fleet to maintain stability and so would've taken Wesley in despite his history.
