I love this song, powerful performance as always from Sting, and great support from the orchestra and the attractive lady at his side (Unsure of her name) , they all pull together so well you can feel the strength and devotion in their performance..... love it!
The Boss said by himself during an Interview, that he had to make it fit to 4/4 from 9/8 that he was able to play it properly... I love Springsteen, but Sting is the better Musician.
Fantastic! Debate as to who's version is best always ensues whenever the song is heard . . . Sting or Cash? Fact is, it's neither. Listen to Springsteen's.
IMHO, fantastic rendition of a Sting song that I always enjoyed. The orchestral arrangement is a nice touch. Didn't know Cash covered it til I watched this clip, don't think the JC version is any better or worse but simply different as you'd expect these two artists' takes on the same song to be.
Я снова открыла для себя песню Sting. Этот так близко к моему состоянию, когда твое " случайное или мимолетное" может изменить твою жизнь. Я написала такой сложный текст по-русски. Мне сложно перевести эту мысль на английский язык.
You know what I like best? This song's lyrics originally read 'I kept on running/Into the salt lands' - Johnny Cash's version changed it to 'south lands', and Sting keeps the alteration here. It's like he's saluting Cash.
Enough already, both versions are gorgeous. I just love this version - beautifully orchestrated and lovely time sig - an English version of a cowboy song.
Sting is a GREAT singer-songwriter. Quite original & consistent. Johnny Cash is a legend in the industry. Listen to Sting as he speaks about Cash having covered his song. Sting felt vindicated. Comparisons? There are none. Cash, Presley, Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins -- you'll never see the likes of them again. Talk about careers that lasted a long time & influenced generations of musicians. Sting is only someone who can follow. Sting's version is excellent. Cash made it timeless.
Bruce Springsteen is ear bleeding torture but Johnny Cash nailed it. Stringbeen is lefty nut bag and a repulsive musician and person in my opinion but to each his own.
I concur with those who say this is better than the original..Good version this..the orchestra adds to the overall feel of the song..the original was a bit too loud..though both the versions are on the louder side, this version personally is relatively more soothing..
The original version is always best......one exception.......Johnny cash.........anyway, I love both artists......without sting, we wouldn't have the the cash version, which if anyone hasn't heard it...it'll make u weep........love you sting........love you cash(!)(!)
I seriously doubt that there is anyone in existence that is a bigger country music fan than I... It is my favorite type of music, no doubt. I love Johnny Cash, and do personally like Johnny's version better than Sting's, but I'm willing to bet that your dislike for Sting's version is simply due to your personal stylistic preference in music. Sting is an excellent musician, with a great appreciation for country music, although he admits he doesn't have the ability to sing in the country style.
Howdy This was nothing less than Spectacular a sheer Masterpiece my only question is this who are the 6 trolls who came out from under their Bridge an clicked the thumbs down Fantastic Thanks for sharing this wonderful work of art Stay Cool Rich
Whose version's better, you say? For me the point is: with a whole orchestra and big dvd production, how the hell they decided to use that guy on a lame keyboard right behind Miller, instead of hiring a nice pianist with a real tail piano? "Hey Gordon, we've forgot to buy a piano! And there's this keyboard player that comes with the orchestra. What shall we do with him?" "Put him on the fuc*ing keyboard. And place him right behind Dominic, so that the whole world knows how cheap I can be", said the man who makes you pay for the honor of collecting grapes for him, in his wineyard in Italy. Apart from this, I love this song.
Honestly the tone of the strings is somewhat happier- it needed more melancholy tones (the bright french horns and upbeat strings) make this sad story sound triumphant. It is beautiful, but when you match the lyrics to the music, the music sounds a bit ironic to the point of the song so I actually like Bruce Springstein's and Cash's better.
Well, that is the idea of having an orchestra to provide backing. And this is coming from a frequent orchestral player. I mean, isn't that the whole idea behind a concerto, or in this case a solo performer with instrumental backing?
The song has peaked. This is the best version. Gorgeous arrangement and performance
Springsteen's version at The Beacon Theatre is shit hot crazy good.
whoever arranged this for the orchestra is an absolute genius
I love this song, powerful performance as always from Sting, and great support from the orchestra and the attractive lady at his side (Unsure of her name) , they all pull together so well you can feel the strength and devotion in their performance..... love it!
This is one of the greatest performances of a masterpiece by a true master at the top of his form.
I do cry when I listen to this. It reminds me of how everything can come crashing down in a second and how I need to live life and be grateful.
The boss makes a master piece of this... Sting did well writing it, but it was meant to be sang by the Boss Springsteen for sure
The Boss said by himself during an Interview, that he had to make it fit to 4/4 from 9/8 that he was able to play it properly... I love Springsteen, but Sting is the better Musician.

True
+MartinBlanford Watch springsteens version!!! You'll forget this one..
Carson Mckee has a great version.
I agree!

My favorite Sting song Second Only to Every Move You Make!!!
I don't know which version I like more. This is fantastic!
Я снова открыла для себя песню Sting. Этот так близко к моему состоянию, когда твое " случайное или мимолетное" может изменить твою жизнь. Я написала такой сложный текст по-русски. Мне сложно перевести эту мысль на английский язык.
Good thing Cash covered this song for him.
god bless sting

A fine song and sung as a tribute by Bruce Springsteen during Sting's Kennedy Center Honors.
Bruce Springsteen is ear bleeding torture but Johnny Cash nailed it. Stringbeen is lefty nut bag and a repulsive musician and person in my opinion but to each his own.
I saw this masterpiece and I held my head high.
Perfect performance
i really love the beautiful 9/8 rythm
Sweet sounding Maton!!! Great song!
Hahaha Damn you sting! A country song in 9/8. Brilliant!
Bruce Springsteen does an authentic live cover at the Kennedy Center Awards honoring Sting!!
um dos melhores músicos...indescritível ...
nah..sting put this song to another level. still respected his nine rythm and sang it relaxed. Sting wins!!
Love it!!
Just hearing Stings version for the first time. Johnny sure made it sound like his own. But, wow, this is awesome. What a great song.
That was Outrageously beautiful
The lyrics are epic.
The cash version is so much better it's hard to believe. And I speak as a huge sting fan.
Agreed. But with one exception. Imho Sting sings these lines 2:25 4:40 way better than JR.
***** Why can't someone have an opinion without you making it something gay.
***** LOL. You really suck at insulting people.
*****
xD
wutefuck this is hillarious
Bible Believer
funny your tounge is stripped gues you have no right to speak as a bible fan lol
Love Sting & J.C.! 🔥
Stunning. Sting is a genius.
My song !!! Just luvit !!! 💜💜💜
Wooh... Woooohh... It's just best version i ever heard
4:55 just blows my mind! Thanks Sting!
We saw him in MPLS MN. Great performance.
Just awesome.
Beautiful
Masterpiece
fantastic...sting...
Sting is a Master/Maestro.. Has been since 1983.
superb
I concur with those who say this is better than the original..Good version this..the orchestra adds to the overall feel of the song..the original was a bit too loud..though both the versions are on the louder side, this version personally is relatively more soothing..

Sting t'es un amour
I don't know who the female support singer is, but she is stunningly beautiful.
Her name is Jo Lawry.
yes- very beautiful.
This is a good song. No matter who plays it.
I seriously doubt that there is anyone in existence that is a bigger country music fan than I... It is my favorite type of music, no doubt. Springsteen it s truly a gunsmoke song from the far west
anybody else really enjoy watching the conductor at 4:54? :p
oh man, that harmonica.... goosebumps...
well more like entire song = goosebumps but anyway
spine tingling
I wish so bad I'd been at this concert..!
I like Cash's version, you can feel the feelings by his singing
sentimento puro...
3:40 min.wow. makes me crying every time!!
Beautiful song. Did anyone else feel like the irchestra overpowered Sting's voice at times?
danke,stingi war nur i, bitte, danke,only
Orchesta, fabolous idea
Sting....como lo hace, es sencillamente comparado con algo celestial.
Way much much better that song dont need all those instruments it takes away the entire song!!
No shit I thought cash wrote this. Well it's a great song played both ways
Howdy This was nothing less than Spectacular
a sheer Masterpiece
my only question is this
who are the 6 trolls who came out from under their Bridge an clicked the thumbs down
Fantastic
Thanks for sharing this wonderful work of art
Stay Cool
Rich
R.I.P. Johnny Cash
Sting is an awesome singer song writer but I like how cash's version sounds I think its actually how sting wanted it to sound wgen he wrote it
Sting wrote this. If you listen to Sting, he says so
a whole orchestra on 9/8 time. Tricky.
Kiss had an orchestra as well.
Whose version's better, you say? For me the point is: with a whole orchestra and big dvd production, how the hell they decided to use that guy on a lame keyboard right behind Miller, instead of hiring a nice pianist with a real tail piano?

Apart from this, I love this song.
I like Johnny's version more... But this one is AMAZING...
The horns and orchestra distract from the simple beauty of the lyrics. The song, alone, with Sting singing and maybe a guitar would have been better.
This is pure Art, sting is an excellent artist. Enjoy, many other Versions of this piece of art exist.
Posiblemente
No, more brass is more better.
Johnny Cash's Cover is the best;)
You tell him Dio!
I admire-sting for writing this great song but give me the johnny cash version less is more
Gotta hand it to Sting, he manages to suck the soul out of whatever song he's playing, no matter how well written or atmospheric.
i did indeed hang my head.
The percussionist at 5:03
Honestly the tone of the strings is somewhat happier- it needed more melancholy tones (the bright french horns and upbeat strings) make this sad story sound triumphant. It is beautiful, but when you match the lyrics to the music, the music sounds a bit ironic to the point of the song so I actually like Bruce Springstein's and Cash's better.
Shout out to John Travolta losing it drumming at 5:04
*Both versions are amazing but Ilike Cash's version more as it has so much gritty sorrow in his voice... a ma who knew he was dying soon*
ab 1 minute und 20 sekunden wirds gut
Does anyone know what kind of mic he uses?
Johnny Cash blew it out the water
Johnny Cash remade it with a feeling that sting can´t deliver!
That's it. I think J.Cash version rocks.
I agree, but there is just one problem, it was a cover.. sting wrote this. great song . either way
No, I think Bruce Springsteen did a super job at this song. Sorry Sting but Bruce nailed it! Much love the canuck
He is the fucking songwriter.
who's the blonde woman?
What does him being the songwriter have to do with this particular rendition of the song?
who disliked this?
why
Johnny Cash made this song great.
August
remade it? lol im pretty sure its Johnny Cash's song
Well, that is the idea of having an orchestra to provide backing. And this is coming from a frequent orchestral player.
I mean, isn't that the whole idea behind a concerto, or in this case a solo performer with instrumental backing?
The guitarrist just look-alike Speed 2's bad guy... Willem Dafoe... kkkkkkk
Dude i commented on this video 2 months ago i think your a bit late to insult me LOL
Not bad song.
Johnny who?
