  • CRISPR-Cas9 has been repurposed to precisely edit the genome. In this video and the Cell paper published in the December 15 issue of Cell, Alan Davidson's group at the University of Toronto and Erik Sontheimer's group at Umass Worcester show that there are naturally occurring phage proteins that can directly bind with Cas9 and curb its DNA targeting and cleaving activity. These exciting findings provide limitless potentials for their future applications.

    what if crispr continues evolving and after a few years or decades overcomes the off-switch of Cas9?

      Nothing happens. According to the red queen hypothesis, if one creature evolved against the other, the other creature must somehow adapt to it. Armament race, beauty of the nature.
