Never was a VW guy, but seriously considering the Tiguan R-Line..it just has this subtle cool but still sporty looks..

yeah, you can drive it anywhere, but not in germany. 2 Niegbours have this car in this color. looks kind silly to have three of them in front of your house..
This is THE BEST review on CZcams. Great job. I recently test drove the new 2017 All Wheel Drive KIA Sportage and I have to confess that it drives much nice than the current Tiguan (old design). The first thing I noticed about the KIA is how incredibly quiet the cabin is. Quieter than BMW or Mercedes. (I test drive everything) Once I got on the road, the KIA was very, very smooth but still responsive at the same time. I felt in total control of the car at any speed. One feature I really appreciated is the perforated seats that not only warm you but COOL you as well!! It gets hot in California and Arizona and a seat that can cool you IS A MUST!! The ONLY reason I didn't buy the car on the spot is because I wish it had a little more power. My 2015 GTI has spoiled me and is extremely fast. If having a fast car wasn't an issue, I would have bought the KIA in a second. I wrote to VW expressing my desires for certain features on the upcoming Tiguan when it's released in the US. The new KIA Sportage has really set the new standard of what to expect in a mid sized SUV for a great price. If the new Tiguan doesn't live up to my expectations, I'm buying the KIA. Thank you again for the detailed video. It was very informative.

It looks really sharp imo, much better than the previous version. Also a great built quality and a good interior design.

How can you compare Tiguan R-Line to Q2? Should we not compare to RS Q2 if that ever comes out.
Personally prefer Q2. After having driven a few German cars you cant get me off Audi. It's a special extra they add.
Haven't driven a Porsche though. Can't afford it either. :)

I have a new Golf and always use the radar controlled cruise control all of the time from 30kph upwards so that I do not have to worry about keeping to the 80kph limit but actually end-up driving at 86kph (eh, Thomas?).

Bravo, this is the second review from you that I have watched and definitely you are going on my subscribed list...if I may suggest...we, the car lovers or petrol heads, would appreciate if you could dedicate more time to the car accelerations (0-100 and various MID accelerations), braking, cornering, etc....do not mean by this to change the concept of your videos (which is really great), but to add additional few minutes for driving capability of the cars would be great. Thanks...

Lovely to drive, easy to live with. Really like the auto hold when you stop, no more applying the parking brake on and off. Diesel is noisy, but the car feels good quality.

Thank you for the thorough and professional review.
To open the tailgate with your foot, you just kick in and then out in one motion (as though kicking a soccer ball under the car, towards the front of the car), in any area, either side of the towbar location. i tend to kick about 25cm to either side of centre. approximately 1 second after your foot has been removed from under the car the indicators (blinkers) will flash once and then the tailgate will open. it isn't a quick process, but it is repeatable- when allowing the system time to process the command. :)

picked my tiguan r line on 20 march just love it
Regarding opening the hatch with foot sensor. So far it works if I do the following action. 1 - perform the kick; 2 - immediately move away/step back from the rear. The hatch opens everytime. I noticed it only open for you once you did a little movement/step backing the video.
Thanks for another great review Thomas.....after seeing your other two reviews of the Tiguan, it made my test drive yesterday at VW dealership a lot better with previous info you had pointed out during filming. Just ordered the 2.0 tdi SEL 190ps with extras plus the electric swivel tow hitch. Top man thanks for your help :-)

I just ordered this car, but without the RLine... more basic look but super equipped with Dynaudio, Navigation system Discover pro, etc etc. I'm really excited.
Excellent review Thomas! Very interesting this R-line sport design, but for me, I would definitely go for the off road package tdi with 150 hp or 190 hp and of course the famous DSG. I prefer the off road package with Tiguan because, I want to play with it in off road, according to its capabilities.

Finally that´s the best combination: 240hp BiTurbo Diesel and the R-Line package!!
But also the 190hp Diesel is strong enough
The car looks sporty and impressive with that R-Line equipment!!

I really must congratulate you on your reviews .... they are the best on youtube. I think VW (and other manufacturers) should be learning from you. I was in a dealership looking at this car and comparing it with the allspace version of the same vehicle. The salesman was no where near as comprehensive as you in his explanation of the car features etc. And he should have been as I am ready to buy one of these cars.

In the future, to help other users. Most of all reviws is for 4Motion , I personally did not want to pay 2500 EUR (4Motion op.), and no reviews for 2WD with the snow surface. But this review one of the appealing, I watched at least 20 times :) Great work Thomas !
P.S. For other user: Standart LED is only about 10% better then Halogen.
If you kick from right to left under the rear, the door opens perfectly. My Touran has never failed

I absolutely love the design of the "off-road" package with a solid 18" wheel, this is too much for me. But hey, this is just my opinion. :)

I only know I like Volkswagen cars. .....more so than all other brands.
The car wanted to spare your arms at first, but then VW sent orders to crush your arms anyway. They really need to fix the power door safety, though.
Tiguan is very nice and solid suv I have driven the older one among the best one .

Have to say, the level of detail in these reviews, just awesome. Not a fan of these R badged VWs or RS badged Audi SUVs as I don't see the point of race pedigree in an off-roader.

Eine "kleine" Sache stört mich allerdings schon etwas. Du bist eigentlich immer sehr sehr gründlich beim wiedergeben der Interior Materialien die verwendet werden. In diesem Review hatte ich allerdings den Eindruck, dass über die eindeutig erkennbaren Hartplastik-Verkleidungen (Türunterseiten, Mittelkonsole unterer-hinterer Bereich, Handschuhfach) dezent Hinweg gegangen wurde ohne diese zu erwähnen. Bei anderen Herstellern wird Hartplastik immer "kritisch" erwähnt.
Ich bin mir sicher, dass deine Reviews absolut Neutral sind, aber ein fader Beigeschmack kann schnell entstehen, gerade in Deutschland, wo wir in der Autopresse immer wieder Manipulation finden (Zeitung mit 4 großen Buchstaben).
Für mich ist und bleibt Hartplastik Hartplastik, ob deutsche Marke, japanische, koreanisch usw usw. .. wenn man davon kein Fan ist, erwähne ich (meine Erwartung an neutrale Reviews) es bei allen Fahrzeugen gleichermaßen. Ich habe vor kurzem auf der Suche nach unserem neuen SUV ganz gezielt auf sowas geachtet und muss sagen, die Hartplastik Qualität macht weder bei Sportage, CX 5, Tucson oder Tiguan einen Unterschied. Während die Gesamtanmutung und Erscheinung beim Tiguan innen natürlich schon auf einem anderen Level ist (Preis natürlich dafür auch).

Hi! Besten Dank für das Feedback. Ich hab den Eindruck, dass VW die Materialien an den richtigen Stellen einsetzt. Gerade im Toyota RAV4 z.B. finden wir auch Hartplastik, aber auch tolle Materialien, aber das gesamte obere Armaturenbrett ist aus Hartplastik. Das fällt z.B. stärker auf. Beim Tiguan ist das so, dass der Gesamteindruck einfach stimmt, dann kann man Hartplastik an manchen Stellen auch verschmerzen. Wir schauen uns das tatsächlich von Auto zu Auto an, und nicht von Marke zu Marke.
only things i dislike about the new tiguan:
- acc not working until 210 kph like the ateca
- still using halogen-bulps e.g. for the fog lights
- no hybrid variant available
other than that a really great car :)

R line all day long - love the looks - could be a little more upmarket on the inside. It's very black on black. The biggest minus is the seats for me. I feel I sit on the seat and not in the seat. In the GTS I would prefer more a more sporty seat, but overall a super car - well done VW -:)
Yes, in the UK you only get a black interior, you can't order an R-Line with a pale coloured interior. But the UK R-Line comes with a panoramic roof, which is nice. However, I find the seats on the SEL spec, very nice!

Great review. At 42:34 you ask, "Performance and relaxation is both possible here. What do you think?" Only my opinion, but it seemed to perform quite well for a standard compact SUV. And at 41:17 when travelling at 212 km/h, you looked quite relaxed! Almost more relaxed than in the recent review of the McLaren 570GT at 200 km/h, or the Caddie ATS-V at 200 km/h - and it appeared to be a lot quieter and smoother - quite impressive! You did ask us to give our opinion, Thomas. Only my opinion! But you can't compare an SUV with an adrenaline-filled 570GT!

Thanks for the review, very informative and well presented. It answered a lot of questions i had in mind, especially the electric boot and as for the fake exhausts!, lol. Going for the TSI 180PS R-line for the wife, in white initially but got to say i'm liking the Indium grey after seeing it in the showroom, so its dilemma time before ordering.

34:40 Its a shame Dynaudio don't have the prestige of Harmon Kardon or Bang & Olufsen because Dynaudio make really good sound systems. Dynaudio were actually the ones responsible for the Bugatti Veyron and Chirons sound system so that should give you an idea of how good their stuff is.

If they would offer this in a GTE powertrain with 4-Motion in the R-Line package it would be the most complete SUV ever.
