Did you know there are more kinds of beetles than any other kind of animal? There are more than 350,000 different species of beetles-that we know of so far! They are amazingly specialized for where they live and what they eat. You can tell this because it's their jaw and mouthparts that are so radically different between different species of beetles.
But you know what they all have in common? Beetles are all insects! That means they share some features with all insects: they have 3 main body parts (head, thorax, and abdomen), they have compound eyes and antennae for sensing things, they have 2 sets of wings, and 6 jointed legs. And instead of a skeleton made of bones inside their body, they have an exoskeleton.
In this video, we'll meet 10 beetles that are all special in their own way. How many of these beetles do you know already? Do any of them live in your neighborhood?
