6:13 - January 30, 1942: Carnegie Hall, New York City, New York (Live)
After returning to the documentary The Last Romantic in 1985, Horowitz made a recording including Schumann's Kreisleriana before a recital in October of that year, which was also recorded at that time, along with several other morceaux.
First of all, I can't help but praise the excellent reverberation and sound quality of this album. In the gym-sized RCA Studio A, Horowitz's piano sounds great with the competent RCA's recording technology. Horowitz himself showed an amazing performance too, he changed the piece that has a strong character of virtuoso into a very pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere with a delicate touch. It's a well-balanced performance overall.
Meanwhile, the 1942's one was performed to celebrate President Roosevelt's birthday, and although not as distinctive as 1985, it's a performance that shows the enthusiasm and general style of young Horowitz.
Horowitz made some minor but insightful changes to the piece, which were reflected in the score.
