RM is honestly the most brilliant lyricist I’ve seen in a long, long time. He is an actual genius and is obsessed with language (and is multi lingual) so his lyrics are BRILLIANT. Also, he’s not lying about his start being poetry- he was a poet as a young teen before he was a rapper. He is also the main lyricist for BTS and is credited with writing over 200 songs at this point. He’s also their leader. So that should give you a picture of how awesome their music is.
Also, regarding his name- he did go by Rap Monster in the beginning but dropped that like 6 years ago.

They aren't afraid to drop swear words, but why waste the feel of them, when if you drop them where you need, it holds greater impact! Keep checking them out! I think I appreciate BTS a lot because thanks to them I've learned to appreciate humanness more. Before discovering them I was mostly only into rock, and I still love it but I was very close-minded when it comes to listening to other genres, specifically when it comes to pop. I liked what the people I looked up to considered good and artsy, at the end of the day I was following what was the trend in my little circle and wanting to feel like I had better music taste than most people I guess. So not expecting much but being open enough to explore BTS and what they have to offer, I came across so much more than what I could have ever imagined. You can tell they pour passion, they create amazing art and even their more typical pop boyband-ie songs have something different to offer (not that they need to), I enjoy those songs wholeheartedly even if they might not be my favorite ones, I learned to have fun one might say. I appreciate the vulnerability they are brave enough to put on their songs the most thought. They manage to represent the human experience in their songs so well while they share their personal stories and find solace in the process. I like their flashy performances, I love their more stripped-down ones where they’re just having fun, I like their fun songs, and I love their deep and/or introspective ones. I think everything comes down to what you resonate with the most, and I resonate a lot with the way they portray their humanness. Now I listen to as many genres as I can, I see as many things as I can, and I try everything I can because you really never know exactly what you'll find.

Hi guys, each one of the rappers has their own unique style. Suga (AgustD) is very raw/street/grittier, RM is intellectual, philosopher, poetic and J-Hope is more carefree/bubbly/upbeat (apart from his latest album which went a bit darker). They are all talented lyricists and producers - they produce nearly all of BTS material, which is massive, (alongside their solo work).

Thank you guys! For keeping an open mind, for reading the comments, for recognizing the artistry and different musicality and uniqueness of BTS members. I really hope you continue to delve deeper into not only the boys’ solo songs but also those of them as the group. They have all the genres so you will find songs you love, songs you like and songs you may not be too keen on. And that’s fine since music is very subjective. Suga/AgustD once said that if you listen to BTS music with an open mind, you will find it to your liking. In my 52 years I’ve enjoyed all kinds of music, all genres, multiple languages, but never have I ever enjoyed songs like the ones these boys do. And if you understand them as people, their personalities, it takes you to another level. I’m very glad I found them. They give joy, comfort, introspection, life lessons…the list is endless. This review was such a delight!! Thank you so much for your honest and genuine reaction to RM. It really made my day. So, RM aka Rap Monster aka Kim Namjoon is the leader of BTS. Army lovingly refer to his as our President. In time, if you get to know the guys better you will see why. He is a beloved and highly respected leader who is known for his genius IQ (148), heartfelt lyrics, eloquent speeches (see his United Nations speech from 2018, the first of 3 appearances by BTS), and kind nature. All members look up to him, even the ones that are older than him and refer to him as "the best leader". There are many reasons for the success of BTS but I firmly believe that it would have been absolutely impossible without RM's deep and profound lyrics. It's one of the most crucial things that set them apart from all the competition. You will find that each of the 7 members are uniquely talented and bring an irreplaceable element to the music. They have hundreds of songs and I can only think of one song that I truly do not care for at all. Looking forward to seeing more real and raw reactions from you guys! Borahae! 💜

It bears mentioning that RM released Wild Flower (from the album INDIGO) last December. It was around the time Jin, the first in the group to serve in the military, left to serve. That was a... weird time for BTS and Army because we were still figuring out what "temporary group hiatus" and "venturing to solo works" meant or what it looked like. And RM was clearly at a crossroads in 2022 as well. You could sense in his words, his letters to Army, the interviews he gave at that time. He was grappling with his status as BTS' leader, the expectations and challenges (i.e., prejudices, gatekeeping, racism) they faced as a group... then there's RM, a poet/rapper who wants to share his thoughts and music to the world. It all probably felt very confusing to him. He mentioned in their famous "2022 Festa Dinner" that he wanted to throw all of that away, return to his roots, and remember why he loved music and why he does what he does in the first place.
Many say derogatory stuff against BTS, but what they cannot accuse them of is that they are manufactured. RM and Suga most especially, they were rappers, writers, composers, and producers before they became kpop idols. They are genuine, sincere musicians, and it's a joy to see them falling in love with music with the same fervor and enthusiasm as they did before BTS became a household name in the west (which brought so much pressure on them all).

With 7 extremely talented individuals in one group, who know how to work together and compromise, you get the best group in the world. Then the solo work showcases the individual talents. They have an enormous body of work as a group. then add in the solo work and you can listen to them for days without repeat.

All hail to our president Kim Namjoon aka RM. 😊
RM is the leader of BTS (not main singer, like in western understanding of the word "leader", but more like sport team captain). This song is very introspective. Namjoon is really doing great during their solo interlude period. He was all this weight of responsibility for his team on his shoulders since the day when they debuted (he was 18 at that time) and even before debute, while still being a trainee. And now, when all guys are doing their own stuff and doing it very well, he has an opportunity to take care of himself.
RM's poetry never cease to amaze me. You should check out his Still Life MV. And Moonchild. And than for a striking contrast - Joke MV. Also Balming Tiger - Sexy Nukim ft. RM. And So!YoON! - Smoke Sprite ft. RM.
Don't forget that you haven't really seen Hobi's artistic range. Try J-Hope's Daydream and Airplane from his first mixtape. BTS - Ego (his solo song in BTS album). And then More and Arson from his latest album for a contrast.
It was announced yesterday, after AgustD final concert of his solo tour that he is starting his enlistment process. ARMY are heartbroken for the third time after Jin's and J-Hope's enlistment. They even came to his final concert. 😭
You saw angry AgustD (Daechwita and Haegeum). Now you should see broken AgustD (Amygdala) and soothing AgustD (Snooze - there's a great fan made MV eith subs for this one). Also People pt.2.
And for the record, I only trying to go with title tracks and music videos, but there's so much more of their good songs without videos.
About vocalist. As Jungkook was the last one to release a song in this moment: Seven MV and Seven Performance video is a must (and it's better be in one video, or you can be spoiled, because performance video has a slightly different version of the song that change it drastically, lol).
Jimin's Like Crazy and Set Me Free Pt.2 (Set Me Free you can consider pt.1 is actually AgustD' song).
Jin's The Astronaut (this song was gift to him from Coldplay) and Epiphany.
V's Singularity MV and Le Jazz de V performance video.

I deeply appreciate your open perspective. I hope your first BTS song as a complete group will be one of their Korean tracks. They have 3 full-English songs (Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance) which might be the most famous in the U.S.
However, those were released during the dark times of the pandemic, so the vibe was intended to be quite poppy, providing a happy and cheerful feeling to people facing tough times.

What I dislike personally about the typical boy bands is how a lot of them being controlled by their own company/s/labels, they don’t get to do what they want like writing and composing their own songs or even trying different genres/types of music like for example I know Zayn from one direction left the band because he said he didn’t enjoy their music and he even tried to do different type of music in the band but the label didn’t allow him. That why most bands end up disbanding because they are not allowed to do what they want even in K-pop groups a lot of them are controlled by their company. That is why I love BTS because they have so much freedom they are allowed to write and compose their own songs and even do solo songs/stuff while being in the group.

Big Hit was so impressed with Kim Namjoon (RM) he was sign at their first meeting and decision was made to form a group around him. RM (Rap Monster) in the beginning however he grew out of it and just goes by RM. Many will say he is a poet and he truly is. He is the leader of BTS and the leader role in K-pop is the person who discusses issues, ideas, and the business side and represents the group to the company and visa versa. As you’ve been told before BTS write, compose, and produce most of their songs. RM and Suga were writing songs at the age of 10 years old. You really like this song so I’m recommending his latest album he dropped in November, 2022 called Indigo and you will be amazed. The album consists of many collaborations with many Korean artist, a Japanese artist just before he passed away, and American artists such as Anderson Paak and Erykah Badu. I really like that you guys focused on the lyrics and for the most of us armies love about them. Thank you so much! 💜

When BTS debuted RM stood for Rap Monster, but a little while in he wanted to be known as RM, standing for Real Me😊
I love that you noticed that they are thoughtful in their lyrics. That is pretty much always the case. They do have their raps where they're reacting to the haters, where they sometimes use swear words, but you won't hear much of that.
I love this song of RM's!!! It's so beautiful! And Youjeen's vocals are amazing!
I only delved into BTS a year ago, and it's some of the best fun I've had with music, and I've been an avid music lover for many many years. I, like you, would have never bothered listening to a boy band, or kpop. My 44 yr old daughter turned me on to them a year ago, and i've been so deep in ever since. These guys are so special! I agree, they are so much more than any label that can be put on them.
Thank you so so much for your thoughtful and genuine appreciation for BTS!!!
I will be subscribing today, cuz I have a feeling we might in for a ride together😊 Yay!!!💜
I do have one I'd like to recommend, and watch with you. It's Outro Tear, live at Wembley Stadium. It's a dynamite one done by all three from the rap line. It's a song Suga wrote in 2018 when they were contemplating breaking up. It is so powerful, and GREAT!

  • @debhouckscraftycottage9288

RM doesn't use Rap Monster anymore (just RM now). This song is off his newest solo album called Indigo. The entire album is a masterpiece. RM is the leader of BTS and was the first member under Big Hit, which is now part of HYBE. RM is known for his poetic lyrics. He's a literal genius with an IQ of 148. Suga (aka AgustD) was the 2nd member. Both of them were in underground rap before getting into BTS and the Idol world. J-Hope joined as a street dancer who won national awards, and learned how to rap from RM and Suga. The other 4 members of BTS are vocalists (Jung Kook - the main vocalist who put out a solo single "Seven" and is expected to put out another single and a mini album by November, Jimin whose solo album is called FACE, V whose solo album Layover was just announced and will be out Sept 8th, and Jin who only had time to do a solo single before joining mandatory military). Just FYI - BTS is still a group, but they are currently gradually joining the mandatory military in South Korea and are expected to regroup in 2025. Jin enlisted in Dec 2022, J-Hope enlisted Apr 2023, and they just announced Suga/Agust D will be next. I expect they will all likely be enlisted by the end of 2023 in order to all be back together in 2025. Time will tell. Though they each can write and compose, the 3 main song writers are the 3 rappers. Suga is also an excellent producer. That's enough for now. I look forward to your BTS journey. I found them in May 2021 and I've been official ARMY (fan) since a couple months after that. My intro to BTS was "Black Swan" MV. In my eyes, their various talents are unmatched.

Yes, RM used to go by Rap Monster but he changed his name to RM in 2017. He said he changed because he didn't like referring to himself as a monster and he thought Rap Monster was too limiting of a name for his music. So RM doesn't really stand for anything specific but he has said a possible meaning could be "Real Me" or something else, it's basically whatever people want it to mean.

Edit) I watched your reaction again. You are right! This song is poetry. RM is a poet who happens to rap and an idol. They do have different sounds, the rappers have different flows.. The vocal line have different sound and ranges too. You have a lot of good points in your comments. I am excited for you to deep dive into their vast discography and find why most Army (fandom name) are not usually Kpop fans, because BTS are different from traditional kpop idol music which are mass produced and more focused on visual arts than how BTS are more in dept and involved kn their music and atistry since they write and produce most of their music/songs hence it is more personal and connect more to fans. I love that you’ve done each of the rapline’s solo songs. And even all these three have soooooo much more to them. On one hand I want to explain what you can look forward, and on the other hand you’ll probably love to discover it yourselves more. Besides… just like the “boyband” and “K-pop” term is somewhat limiting one’s view on what something might be, I don’t want to risk limiting your view on BTS and the members. Because they really stretch far in their abilities and artistry.
And I think you will find songs by BTS and the members that you will classify as boyband or K-pop, because they are that too. I guess why BTS and us ARMY are so loud about not labeling them is because it so so so often limits people’s expectations to what and who they are and what they do. It’s not nearly wide enough terms to describe them properly.
I can tell you like the introspective side, which BTS is very famous and loved for. They have many songs that reflect on life - and albums, where a song will regain a new understanding when seen in the context of the album. They really do pride themselves in telling a story throughout the album - especially the Love Youself-series and Map Of The Soul-series.
They also have bangers where they rap fast and slap back at haters. And they are 🔥🔥🔥
And don’t even get me started on the vocal line.
    Anyway.
Maybe you’d love “Singularity” by V? He’s the last member to release his album (on the 8th of September). Singularity in from the Love Yourself: Tear album which is probably my favorite BTS album. Maybe. It’s hard to pick one.

RM is a genius, poet and credited with most of the songs that he has written for their group... it's no imagination that he probably has 300 written songs credited under his name. RM is also the leader of the group, originally started as an underground rapper who was the first member to be casted. He is the only fluent english speaking member from the group and I think his intelligence, guidance and vision has helped BTS be as successful as they are today. He's just a genius... such a vibe! The thing about BTS is when they write, it’s coming from within, so sincere and authentic. Like, not pretending like a lot of American celebrities do. If you ever end up watching their old lives with army, RM for example, he talks to us like we are no less than he is. We gain a lot of comfort from the lyrics and because of who they are, we do not feel betrayed since it’s really their story/sentiment. Not that they don’t have fun songs, because they have such bangers. Don’t be fooled by bangers, there is still a meaning and message if you pay attention what they’re really saying in the lyrics. RM’s mixtape RM (2015), Mono. (2018), and his latest Indigo (released 12/2/2022). All three very different. They’re like different eras in his life. SO good.

RM said that BTS are like fireworks and that he as an individual is a flower work and that he is both RM the leader of BTS and RM aka Kim Namjoon. BTS is a group who loves and respects each other more than their own families. Every single member brings something different, special and important to the group such that BTS would not be BTS without all 7 of them. When you start listening to BTS do not start with Dynamite, Butter or PTD. While those are important songs and have their rightful place in BTS’ history, they were not planned like their vast catalogue , which was released in distinct chapters based on their growth as as a group, with a fictitious storyline running throughout. I recommend starting with songs like Spring Day, I Need You, Begin, Epiphany, Euphoria, Paradise, 134340, 2!3!, Idol, Magic Shop, Don’t Leave Me and so many more. I don’t think you’ll ever find a song you don’t like. I really don’t.💜
