    I discovered fpv almost 3 years ago and it was guys flying those old school 1s tinywhoops with the huge mushroom antennas etc and I fell in love with how DIY and fun the hobby was. Now I've worked up to all the bigger quads and have digital etc but I honestly still gravitate to my micros and for some reason they just have a place in my heart, maybe because it's where I began, idk but micros especially 1s whoops and toothpicks will always be my absolute favorite! ❤

    I recently did something similar with the intent of just cruising around, and found that it's just stupidly fun to rip with. The control is tight and the power is well above what I expected. Might have to make a similar sibling to it with a thicker frame as it's so thin that crashing has a huge risk of snapping an arm. Getting the feeling that 3" is going to become the new king for fun. It's smaller, quieter, cheaper, and less dangerous.

      @@MoeFPV Finally got it fixed up! Had the vtx come in then the bt2.0 connector went bad, had to replace that. I went with bt2.0 cuz I just took the flight controller from my tiny whoop and put it in this frame, plus I had a bunch of bt2.0 batteries and didn't make the switch. But all the characteristics you described in your build was true! Definitely feels floaty and you can't rely on your throttle, I don't think I'm missing out too much with bt2.0 😂 Learned a lot from this cuz this was my first build. The tune feels a little stiff, as I was going off kebabs tune I got a warning from betaflight saying it could cause runaways or burning out escs so I didn't wanna mess up my new build off the bat. Should that tune be fine or do you have a preset you recommend for betaflight 4.3?

    • @MoeFPV
      @MoeFPV  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Im glad you got it up and running! And youre right, i dont think youre losing much if anything from BT versus XT30. I was most concerned about BAT sag but the power delivery is probably no different. The flight characteristics take a bit to get used to but i think its a great experience and a good trainer! when you go on to 2s and above, youll find a better appreciation for that new power lol. What i did for a tune on this one was STEAL the crux3 1s ELRS PIDs from happy model. They should be on 4.3, as well. I would go to HappyModel website and grab the CLI and steal the tune from there ;) Let me know if you run into any trouble. I believe Bi direction D shot is enabled and so is dynamic idle so make sure your AIO can support that. But as a rule of thumb, just because the sliders warn you it may fly away doesnt always mean that tune will be detrimental to your setup. Just use caution when trying it for the first time and make sure youre checking to see if your motors are getting too hot!

    Thanks for the video. About the FC - I have my eye on the slightly smaller 1s flywoo. It is a 5A board. You mentioned that you wired your vtx/camera to battery lead. I would not need to worry about whether the 5V rail on the FC AIO is less than 2A if I do the same, wire the vtx directly to battery? Also the board comes with ELRS installed - is that ok or would I get better performance by installing my own ELRS receiver? Finally what 1S capacity did you find works best with the build - I see you have 500, 530 and another one. Thanks - I am putting parts together for a build.

      @MoeFPV  Před rokem +1

      Thank you very much! Truly appreciated. So I am not 'all in' on any one system at the moment and dont really see myself ever being. Right now, Ill still use analog on everything from whoops to 5" mainly for the price, weight and reliability. HDZero is on a few whoops and faster 'racing' toothpicks for the low latency. I broke my nano 90 and 1w sadly : ( but that was truly a great freestyle combo and i will definitely be getting another. And walksnail I have on a few micros and one 5 inch. TBH I also want DJI 03 for my 3.5/4" drones lol that onboard 4k is a great incentive. I feel like truly there is a case for all the systems, at this point
      I am still flying the HDZero goggles with the avatar VRX on there. This performs more good enough for me, albiet its a little heavy having everything on my nose lol I had a friend who bought the avatar goggles and said he didnt feel much if any difference between the VRX on his HDZeros and the Avatars. That being said, im sure there must be a slight range advantage in being able to chose all 4 antennas
      thanks again for the words!

    • @kandredfpv
      @kandredfpv Před rokem

      Yeah HDZero VTXs have poor reliability...I busted my Race V2 in a light crash, and that was in an ultralight 5" toothpick. The voltage regulator seems to be the common point of failure.
      Regarding the Avatar goggles, unfortunately there aren't many reviews out there comparing the experience to the VRX on different goggles, but Chris Rosser's latency tests show HDZero + VRX has about 10ms more latency than the Avatar goggles. I fly Skyzone 04x + VRX which is about another 10ms more than if I pair it with HDZero. I guess some people don't notice 10ms of latency but given you enjoyed the HDZero 90fps cam I'm sure you'd appreciate the lower latency Avatar goggles. 😉

I modified my WhoopStor to charge xt30's so I can charge a whole batch of 6 xt30 1s batteries and rip without having to mess around with parallel charging or anything. So quiet too. The single downfall to me is the inability to turtle mode in grass, that just means I have to be a bit more careful unless I want to walk to pick up my drone every time I crash!

      So mine is 49g dry - I could probably get it down to 46ish with the lower weight props, no external ELRS antenna, and if I took that walksnail heatsink off. I usually dont like to go heavier than the GNB 530s if I'm trying to fly a bit more aggressive. For cruising around, though, ill use the 660's and get over 4 min no problem. Just gettin a BIT heavy

    • @MoeFPV

      This is something to watch out for - you cannot avoid this on 1s. The 5v will not provide a constant 5v to power the vtx so we need to use vbat on 1s. • @MoeFPV
      @MoeFPV  Před rokem +1

      Thank you much, Mc! I have two TP3s one on 2s and another on 3s and I agree the 3s is so difficult to get flying right. I ended up using a HEAVY battery on it, though, and it actually smoothed it out. Try something like a 660 or larger, if you still have it. I do not have experience flying these toothpicks on BT and A30 but I think it would be fine, especially on analog. That being said, I do think XT30 provides the least battery sag out of them all and if you're going HD, especially walksnail, I would want to keep my battery well above that blackout voltage of 3.2. I think this would also be true if you wanted to experiment with higher KV motors. Thanks again for the kind words, Mc! : )

    • @MoeFPV
      @MoeFPV  Před rokem +1

      HDZ with the VRX is very good - I only fly in the low latency mode, 25mbs and 720p, but with those settings it feels great. I had a buddy with the same HDZ + VRX combo who did buy the walksnail goggles to try and he said he could not notice any difference in latency but maybe a very slight range increase with aftermarket antennas. I'm assuming there is some additional latency with the VRX, but not enough to notice (maybe about an additional frame).The only downside of the VRX on the HDZ is that additional weight on the front of your face IMO LOL. But yeah man, i think the 1s board is avatars greatest strength currently - perfect for a 1s or 2s toothpick.

    Hey question. I have the happymodel bassline 2 walksnail. Can i just use the parts from that and fit it on the crux frame and it becomes same build as yours? But it is using 1103 motor

    • @MoeFPV
      @MoeFPV  Před rokem +1

      I don’t recommend using the 1103 11,000kv motors for a 3” prop 2s. You can essentially use everything else from your baseline and just plop it on a crux 3 or TP3 frame but you’ll need to buy different motors, unfortunately. Should be around 6500kv or a little higher if you want more power. Check out the full build guide at fpv cycle for motor details before you buy !

    Very nice content. I do enjoy 1s the most I think, its just super easy to maintaing, carrying etc. DO we really need xt30 here? gnb27(or new A30) not enough? What is the weight of the drone? Why not tri blade props?

    • @MoeFPV
      @MoeFPV  Před rokem +1

      Thank you very much - so XT 30 is not as much of a requirement as is upgrading the connector from PH 2.0 to something else. I will say XT30 produces the least amount of battery sag for me, which is important for HD systems as the video will cutout if our voltage sags too low. That being said, you can get away BT 2.0 or A30 for sure if you’re building a light analog version. Also, I prefer bi blades on these 1s toothpicks for their low weight and flight characteristics - light triblades would probably work fine but we’ll definitely lose efficiency

      Thanks Swan! Appreciate it brother - so I have done that to a happymodel x12 board for my first 2s TP3 build! You certainly can do it but it's a bit of a PITA. You can easily pry the plugs off then you're left with the pins. I found it was best to apply a bit of exta solder on each pin, turn the board sideways, apply heat from the side with the extra solder and pull the pin out from the other. Gotta find a cheap pair of the old version 2 ones or whatever
      HMM for inside its gotta be a whoop so you dont chew up any of the furniture. Im more of an outdoor whooper, myself but i would definitely recommend a BNF - the mobula6 ELRS version with the 0702 motors 26k KV. they are hard to find, though. BetaFPV makes some decent BNFs, as well. The problem with most BNFs is that they come with underpowered motors if you were trying to do indoor freestyle. You could always get a BNF and upgrade the motors to 0802 or 0702s that are above 25k KV. Anything less and you might have a hard time catching yourself on different moves and the whoop will generally just not fly 'fun'

    Man, you mentioned your 5v rail was struggling to power your avatar 1s lite + Elrs reciever together. I am wondering why this would be, because apparently the avatar 1s lite only pulls 400mah to 500mah on the high end, and elrs reciever pulls around 30mah, but if I recall correctly most 5v rails supply 2A to 2.5A. It seems like the 5v rail should hold up, but I am curious why yours was giving you issues. I am building a 3s tp3 with an Avatar 1s lite and elrs rx, but realizing that I can't run the vtx off the battery lead without running a 5v regulator, but do not want the weight penalty. Hoping to power them both off of the aio somehow. 1s babytooth will probably be easier, because the avatar can run off battery power.. Maybe if I power them both off of the 5v rail, it'll just work? Who knows lol. I am running older Jhemcu 20a aio.

    • @MoeFPV
      @MoeFPV  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey Mike - if you are building a 3s the 5v pad will absolutely power the lite VTX. This is exactly what i did for my 4s crux35 build and it worked no problem and this was on a 1A BEC i believe. I know the lite system calls for a 2A and if you have that youll be golden but ive seen it work no problem on 1A BECs on the cheaper boards. I just think the 1s boards cannot deliver a constant current on such low voltage. I actually have a TP3 walksnail with the full V2 1200mw vtx running off VBAT! I just dont fly digital as much 😅 keep me updated and let me know if i understood your question correctly

      @@MoeFPV Ah man, that makes so much sense, now that you mention it!! I didn't consider the 5v regulator being starved because it is running on 1s. I am running the older Jhemcu board, which has a 2.5a 5v rail, so it should be good. I was able to get this build put together at 106g with a 550mah 3s, so I am hoping it has the Tp3 feel that I love. I have told bob roogie several times that he ironed out one of the most balanced flying fpv machines ever conjured up, and imo it really helps if it's built within the 105g-110g weight spec. I have a second 1s lite setup, and was debating between converting one of my 1s babytooth builds, since yours (and a few others) look like they fly so well with the extra weight. I have found that you can get away with reny motor mounting screws as long as you use a little Welders glue on the motor bases to the frame. Saves a little weight out at the arms😎 Thank you for the reply dude!!

The MIPI cable connection on the board is fragile, though so be careful pulling on that thing! Also the UFL is always a week spot on the board.
