Perhaps her most important work, was on PBS, doing children's programming. She's now 91! I LOVED the 70s, and Rita was a huge part of that. You could see her in the daytime, on Electric Company, then on Rockford Files at night. What a beautiful woman!
I remember going to see the movie "The Ritz" the first night it was playing; the theater was packed and I've never heard such laughs! Rita was so, so funny in that film. She really should have gotten a Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
Rita seems so sweet and down-to-earth. There's a kindness to her that I love. Humor too, of course. A friend of my sister's has a partner who got a chance to meet her in LA. She said that Rita was really nice and cared a lot about the importance of musicians' fair pay. I don't remember the name of the program, exactly, however, I know that she is a big supporter of that. When I found out about that, it only made me respect her even more as a person and not just as a gifted and talented stage, TV, and screen star.
I kick myself for missing an opportunity to see Rita Moreno play Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's play Master Class at the Berkeley Rep in the mid 20 oughts. And there was to be a Q&A afterwards with her and Terence McNally. God I felt so stupid!
Garner still had 7 years left back then. And now we lost Stuart Margolin 3 days ago. I'm super depressed. Young people want me to tell them about the 80s. I tell them the 70s were even Better! The 80s were great, but only because they were a product of the 70s.
What's wrong with that? It took a lot for her to gain that self-acceptance... There is nothing wrong with that! Now if she was a complete prima donna who thinks she's better than everyone else, then this would be a completely different story. She loves herself AND she is compassionate and kind too
+The Readers Corner Absolutely the funniest character she ever played. It's from both the play and the movie The Ritz. Googie Gomez is a totally untalented Puerto Rican lounge singer in a NYC gay bathhouse, who absolutely murders the English language every time she opens her mouth. Despite a great cast, Googie steals the show. Rita won a Tony award for the role on stage.
I disagree, I think Googie Gomez would have made a great weekly comedy series, along the line of an I LOVE LUCY, that is Googie getting into crazy situations each week, and like Lucy, always trying to get into show business. I think there was much to work with, and Rita's talent could have pulled it off.
As a kid in the 70's, the character she nearly ALWAYS played on the tube just got on my nerves; I had no idea she was as talented or as versatile as she is, I just thought "not this jerk again", so I totally get the Silverman decision. Too bad she didn't get more of a chance to spread out instead of always playing that character.
Hell no! I don't think she had a chip on her shoulder! If anything, she is being completely honest. She seems very nice and genuine in practically all of her interviews
Rita Moreno is a bit too much about herself because James Garner was first Maverick not after Rockford Files. She confuse some of these show because James Garner that Maverick was first before Rockford Files which was on TV for 8 years. James was a good and natural actor which i I resent her saying he wasn't so good? He wouldn't be in two shows which he did very well in both shows.
Such an embarrassment. It amazes me what people think is "talent". RM played and profited from playing a stereotype and many of her roles were degrading to women. A careerist who screwed around with married man after married man, including Brando thru two of his marriages and still she spins it (for attention and PR) like it was some great love, always leaving out the important facts. She should tell her REAL story, I wonder how much public respect she'd get then?
@@jerrybobteasdale Nor, is it USUALLY cared about or even given two sh*** about, by most of us, at least. I, for one, got enough of my own GD problems to worry about!

You On The Other Hand A Clown And Will Always Be One And Not The Funny Kind.
Rita is like 75 in this interview, still beautiful, now she's 90, hope she makes it to 100.
Lot of respect for Moreno. Talented actress, great personality, and apparently a good and thoughtful person. Can see why her and Garner were friends.
Rita is an extremely intelligent and compassionate woman. Her anecdotes prove that.
She's an all around class act, and it shows in her acting, interviews, and how she treats others around her. God Bless you Rita!
What a beautiful person inside and out...
Rita & James Garner made for a GREAT pair.
You always got a sense of them both being genuine in real life.
Thanks for the video!
I've always liked Rita Moreno because she's such a firecracker but also a sweetheart. She was great in The Rockford Files (one of my favorite shows).

Glad she has something nice to say about James Garner. He was one of my favorites. News flash...actors are self-involved individuals.
Amazing, beautiful and thoughtful woman... no wonder she was close to Garner!
I remember going to see the movie "The Ritz" the first night it was playing; the theater was packed and I've never heard such laughs! Rita was so, so funny in that film. She really should have gotten a Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
"My career is no yolk", "I was always her just nobody knows it!" and "Focking weatherman" are forever in my lexicon. Love you, Rita!

Such a gorgeous woman and wonderful actress.
Hell of a Lady! Hell of a Actor!

A class act!!
Loved Rita in West side story and she was great on the rockford Files.
Love Rita!
Love you Rita!
I wonder why she never made a second appearance on 'The George Lopez Show,' as Benny's mother. She was hilarious in that role.
She is beautiful!
I love Rita!
👑Living Legend 👑
Googie Gomez is my spirit guide.
Lovely.
EGOT in 1977 @15 years
What a spark plug! ...and still hot!
@bayern4316she's in her 80s now
1:39 I want to near that speech in full 🙂
RITA MORENO.......LOVES HERSELF....
and she’s very smart to do so.

Top of the Heap that is the bad pilot she's talking about.
A wonderful talent. In person, not particularly warm.
60 yrs in show business taught her not to be.
👍
I plan on asking Rita Moreno out on a date when I go to Heaven. ❤
Sounds like she should have just been herself.
Who's Google Gomez?

I'm a fan of Rita Moreno, but does she appear to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder?

So sick of this one! Her whole life she’s gotten good roles, and here she goes again, she’s so wonderful but they wouldn’t hire here.

aw...and all you are is a nobody loser boo hoo hoo lol.
Talent is seen on the stage or on the screen. The personal life of the actor is probably not seen in the end product.
More than you get as a sleazy, gossipy critic.

Rita was one first class performer..and her part on the Rockford Files was as classy as she…
