To this very day I still can't understand why it's not more popular! Shorty money and awesome lightweight piece! I use and love mine!
Absolutely love mine....wouldn’t use a zpacks over this ever. About ready for a new one
E ..😅😅 F1 :❤ 😢46 x🎉😂🎉😮😮😅🎉 1:46
Would also like to say that 6 moon designs has terrific customer service. These guys are doing it right.....some of the other well-known ultralight shops have lost the customer service aspect....not these guys
The belt really does make all the difference. Nice posts.
Great video. Glad to see it after the cape was well tested & approved. Appreciate the snow.
Rad setup, love the multipurpose attribute. Definitely going with this for my shelter/raingear/pack cover on my next long hike.
Very informative! Thank you I just received my Gatewood and set it up and seam sealed it. Did not buy the serenity but should have.
Looks like a great UL setup with some nice modifications.
Another great video - review in the snow is the way to go 😊🌲
Nice combo of these two items!
Excellent demonstration. And finally, someone demonstrating the Gatewood Cape in poncho mode *with a belt mod*... yeah, seems super obvious, but of the half dozen previous videos from other channels they all had the poncho billowing in the breeze and describing that as a problem. Sheesh. Thanks for the obvious and useful. I also appreciated your setup in the snow. Not sure you're advocating its use in winter conditions, but I am curious. My one concern about the tarp setup is how high off the ground it is -- wind, rain, snow will surely come in, inflate the setup, possibly pull it out of the ground if winds are strong enough. Curious about your experiences. I'll look for other videos you may have posted on this item. Thanks again. Great job.
The cape can be set up at whatever distance you want it from the ground. The stake cords at each cornet have 3-4 settings, the closest one in will keep it close to the ground. For hot nights, higher for ventilation.
Awesome shelter!
Great video. I have been looking at purchasing one and this really helped. Thank you.
I'd love if you included the set up in these videos, or if you have it in another video, maybe link that one in your info with this one. Great reviews, and I appreciate the details about the adjustments you make.
it is actually pretty straightforward and easy to set it up like a tent... the only issue might be that it is not fully sealed
@@landflame Though, the Gatewood Cape is easily seam sealed. Not really an issue in practice.
Do you know if anyone had problems in heavy rain situations with this tent?
Hey guys! I'm gonna mod my gatewood for an attempt at a few sections of the GDT this summer. Did you get 2.2mm zing-it and lash-it? And was that zpacks zline for the hood? You're right, the hood cord is not great.
I just can't stomach the thought of catching a thorn with my shoulder when in poncho mode.
Duct tape repair
Could you wright the add ons you use for this tarp please?
I'm with you and very lite
How well does it do in heavy rain in tent mode? I love this idea
Zak Chapman I’ve have been through a number of windy rain storm and it does very good.
What’s it like in strong winds?
How well do you think this would handle in high wind, something that you would encounter in the sierra?
My question too. The high-off-the-ground setup makes me visualize a parachute in high winds. No?
Very good video. How much did you pay for it? Where did you buy it from? How low does it cover in the back when you are wearing it over your backpack? How many tracking polls did you used when pitching it in tent mode? I am blind and cannot see details in the video. This is why am asking all these questions. Thanks so much for sharing. God bless you.
TainoXtreme I wanna say I paid around $125. With a pack on it goes to the back of my knees (6ft tall). Minimum of one trekking pole but I prefer two. Lemme know if you have any more questions. Thanks!
What do you do when it’s pouring and you need to switch from cape to tarp mode, and the reverse?
I'm a bit late here, but ive had to do this several times and here are the two options I've come up with. 1.) Is to just go under a good covering tree, squat down and drop your bag inside your poncho while still wearing it. Grab your stakes, and set your pole length. Then as fast as you can, take the thing off, stake out 4 primary points, throw your bag under it and hop in. The remaining 2 points can be done from inside the poncho easily. This can take about 1 minute, if you time it right between down burst and be patient, you can usually get it done without getting all that wet. 2.) For when it's absolutely coming down, perfect a very weird method where you stake it out from the inside, insert your pole and tighten it all up. This requires flexibility but it can be done without taking the poncho completely off. Doing so only gets your arms wet while reaching out of cover from the poncho to stake out your lines.
@@tylerreeves8026 Thanks, Tyler !
@@tylerreeves8026 Excellent tips, and of course, if conditions permit, you could just hunker down under that tree with poncho on and gear inside (as you mentioned) and wait for a break in the weather. Not the worse thing you might have to do. :)
I love the weight saving by combining a raincoat with a tent, well until I had to visit the bathroom in pouring rain.....
Sorry about the negative but it is not practical.
I still love your video and gave it a thumbs up :)
I pair my Gatewood with a Houdini windshirt which is very water resistant. This solves the wicked pisser dilemma for me.
I am Caribou I love your videos Garrett beyer
I own one as well. However, it is waterproof thus absurd for Summer temps wearing it as a poncho. I made a Dyneema poncho/tarp put it on and then quickly took it off due to the heat build-up. Additionally, a poncho/tarp worn as a poncho catches of shrubbery and flays in the wind - no thank you. As a tent it is adequate, but for Winter, you should put it to the ground to obtain its' inherent warmth and do something about the hood re: insects and temp control.
Just get the Lunar solo
Timothy Cook I have one! IMHO this is a fun, lighter weight option. The Gatewood eliminates the need to carry extra weight with pack cover and rain gear. Here is a look at my Lunar Solo thoughts.

ultralight indeed but i would be hesitant using it when snowing
I just do not get that tight of a setup with my Serenity + Zpack pocket tarp. The new version of the Serenity is an absolute downgrade. They basically eliminated the bath tub floor. Only could get my hands on the new iteration sadly. Modless, the setup is very flimsy
Would love to hear the details of your complaints, in addition to the bathtub floor.
All I can hear is your camera man breathing lol.
looks ridiculous
