FINALLY! Some flowers for Jamaal Wilkes. He is usually the forgotten HOFer on Showtime nostalgia
Jamaal Wilkes is a legend
This is a great interview especially for anyone who remembers the Showtime version of the Lakers winning their first title in 1980.
Absolutely right! Man, it was great to listen to Jamal Silk Wilkes. You can tell he’s a fantastic human with some cool stories that really kick up those beautiful memories 👍🏽

Loved hearing from the great J The Silk Wilkes. I still remember his 20 foot layup and the passes from Magic under the rim for an easy put in. The Showtime Lakers, the greatest era in the history of sports. Glad i saw it all first hand. B Scott, you're a great interviewer, and a very smart man.
My favorite player when I was a HS hooper… loved watching him win a chip with my local team in 75. Long live Silk!
Jamaal "Silk" Wilkes, such a great player from the past! Almost looked like he never gave it 100%, because he did it so effortlessly. Man, I miss the players I grew up watching!
It brings a huge smile to my face to watch my favorite sports team former players have podcast and interviews with old teammates. It is like sitting around family members sharing stories and you are trying to picture what they are talking about in your mind. Thank you Mr. Byron Scott for these great interviews.
I was just still waiting for Jaamal to answer B. Scott’s question about his unorthodox jump shot.
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. I grew up in San Jose, and even attended the Warriors' pre-season workouts that were held then in San Jose - and Keith Wilkes (Jamaal) was one of my most favorite players. Great to finally hear his voice and to realize how great a guy he is.
Thank you.
I should add that I attended the same elementary school as did Raymond Townsend, during which we often played basketball together - with Ray's Dad occasionally coaching our teams. Great memories.
Jjamal welksonly playforthe lakers..
I had the extreme pleasure of watching Jamal Wilkes in High School. He was so great and was so exciting to watch. I couldn't believe his passing. His game was so smart! I couldn't take my eyes off of him when he played. It was his senior year at Santa Barbara High School. I was a sophomore and he was a senior. I really never met him or was able to even speak to him back then, but this podcast has made it possible for me to see how he is as a real person. It's been such a treat for me to be able to listen to him and hear that he is as smart as the way he played. I also never knew about the film he was in and I just watched it and saw him just the way he looked back then. It was a very good film and it really did have a great story. Laurence Fishburne III was in it as a kid. I kept trying to find him in the movie. I was looking for Orpheus from The Matrix until I finally recognized him as the young starring kid in the film. But Keith's intelligence or I should say Jamal Silk Wilkes's intelligence really shined through for me and I was just so glad to see it confirmed as him being the person I expected he would be. Thank you so much for having this long and interesting conversation Byron Scott. You're the best and ask great questions and I"m so thrilled to see one of my High School heroes who's lived such a good and meaningful life. God bless you both.
Silk Wilkes was smooth on the court. Smooth as Silk.
That man there! Omg! I never touched a basketball before watching “Cornbread, Earl and Me”. He’s single-handedly the reason I played and tried to master basketball. “Legend” doesn’t describe him. I’m almost in tears texting this.
They killed Cornbread!
I had a basketball history VHS tape from the late 70s growing up and Jamal was prominently featured, I'll always remember the odd form of his jumper that seemed to never miss lol.
I was in line at the old Forum getting something to drink. Then glanced to my left and Wilkes was standing right next to me in line. I was in awe having grown up a UCLA and Lakers fan thinking how unassuming he was and patiently waited like everyone else. Heck, he was a legend and I thought someone like him would have the food and drink delivered to his seat. This wasn't long after he retired. Never will forget that moment.
What a great guy! Humble and giving everyone ele credit first. Love it!
Great INTERVIEW,MR SCOTT 👈🏿✊🏿
I didn't know about this channel. Glad it popped up in my feed!
Silk was a smooth player. In his early years with the Warriors , he was quick and had some hops too. I first saw him after he joined the Lakers in 1977.
Great to hear 2 all time greats trading memories. Good interview by Byron too. Thanks!
I loved when Norm or Magic would feed the ball to Jamaal on the baseline and then watching him launch those beautiful shots. Count it!
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing both former players again. Great interview!!
That's Cornbread from "Cornbread, Earl, and Me"!! I love that movie.
Was always a nice guy I used to catch the bus from Alameda over to Oakland and watch them practice on Saturday's all those guys were nice.
I'm a Bruin and if you cut me I bleed purple and gold. This pod was everything. Such a class act you are, Jamaal, and a credit to both SoCal & NoCal with the Dubs.
An LA Legend.
Loved him as a Bruin and a Warrior… so good I even liked him for the dreaded Lake show. Btw I bleed purple and gold too. UW forever!
I love Jamaal & B. Scott
I always wondered what happened to the Silk Man....learned something new. Great interview 👍
Awesome Jamaal ! Don't think I've seen Silk since 80's...Like'n these vids! TY!
Idk if Silk used a lotta stick-um , but Silk was the best reciever ever in the NFL , oops , excuse me...NBA!
Great interview!
And that Magic game was on tape delay! WTH! I remember calling sportsphone to get the final score and watched the game on tape delay. it was a very exciting time to be an NBA fan
Great interview. I really enjoy them. The sound on this one is extremely bothersome
My favorite player. Number 41 and 52.
Silk and norm were great
🗣Cornbread
Dude’s jumper was an adventure for sure. I guess I sort of miss the old days when there were some very distinctive shooting styles.
The great Phil Smith
Byron, helluva job! Can you interview Rudy the ball boy sometime? He was there throughout your Showtime Era!
Played Jamal his freshmen year. We beat them by 20 they had Larry Farmer. This was @ UCLA..... We went 33 - 0 @ Compton Junior College coached by the late great Jim Neuman RIP.... Coach Neuman who was an assistant coach at Arizona State University recruited Byron Scott, Alton Lister, Fat Lever, Johnny Nash, Sam Williams... Great team... Those were the days...
Jamaal Silk Wilkes had a unorthodox jump shot technique but it worked good for him.
B. Scott has interviewed Worthy, Cooper, Thompson, Abdul-Jabbar, Rambis, Green, Wilkes, Vitti.
There's one more person he has to bring to his podcast
Mark Landsberger?
Ha! Okay I’m ready to hear
Obviously you're referring to Magic, but he also has to interview Bob McAdoo.
Magic, Macadoo, Riley, and the logo. Give us 4
Magic!!!
Jamaal wilkes or keith wilkes played with the legendary bill walton at ucla won the nba championship at golden state with rick barry. And obviously played with kareem magic cooper scott nixon this guy played around and against the best! I even seen him on a episode of trapper john Md! Lol.
Keith and Edgar Lacy were the 2 best forwards for UCLA . Small forwards
I need that FAT LEVER interview!
Sound check move close to mic silk!
Great podcast. If it could help Silk, maybe he could try intermittent fasting, it could really improve the insulin resistance and maybe even cure it.
Jamaal Abdul Lateef
THE ORIGINAL CORNBREAD.
Hank Babcock, his name could've been silk. He invented the cross-over.
Chick Hern GM brilliant.
Peace to Mike Warren!
Tha og cornbread
He did not mention Lawrence Fishburne for movie.
B Scott's mic seems wayyyy too low compared to Silk Wilkes. Someone needs to adjust the audio a bit
You got nothing else to worry about or comment about? I think plenty of people could hear just fine maybe you should go get a ear check at Costco oh brother!
At least Wilkes mic was good.
