True story: My mother knew I was a John Anderson fan, yes, the country artist. So for Christmas she buys me an album by Jon Anderson, Song of Seven. I was confused. She was embarrassed. But I took it all in stride. A few months later, I was alone in the house and had access to the stereo system. I put Jon Anderson's album Song of Seven on and thought it strange that they would put the albums title song at the end of the album. So I played it first. Something opened up in me that had never been opened. I sat there mesmerized and started to cry. It was the most powerful, uplifting song I had ever heard. The lyrics were breathtaking. My mother has been dead for 11 years, and I don't know if I ever thanked her for buying me this album for Christmas in 1980. Thanks, Mom.
Probably my favourite Jon Anderson song ever and have found myself listening to it over and over again tonight. My wife died three years ago and this song reminds me of her so much. We started going out together when we were just 15, in 1979. The first present she bought me was a copy of I Hear You Now. Together we saw Jon play Glasgow Apollo in 1980. We were lucky enough to meet him at the stage door and he spent a few minutes chatting to us and signed my copy of Olias and the Take Your Time single that had come out that day. He remarked that it was the first copy he had seen. I still have the album but don't know where the single went. The most precious and vivid memory I have of the concert is when they played this song. My wife (then girlfriend) and I stood arm in arm and as he reached the part where he sang "is it this time of times" we shared a beautiful kiss. Such precious memories.
I've adored this song for 40 years. Listened to it thousands of times. And a thousand times it has brought tears to my eyes. This is what beauty sounds like.
This guy must be the finest poet who ever lived. Absolutely no idea how to penetrate or understand his lyrics. But there is something so beautiful and moving about everything jon sings. This piece is a perfect example
Song of Seven is one of my very favorites of all Jon Anderson's compositions. The photography and videography here are incredibly beautiful & wonderfully captured in this music video. Thanks so much, Maestro Jon Anderson!
Today, Song of Seven took me to 1980 when this amazing work of spirit was born into my life's most treasured music, poem, prayer, beam of light! I'm so grateful to have been drawn to this page in this moment. Surely this is Jon Anderson's opus. I wish for every soul on the planet to experience this masterwork.
A song of pure joy, pure beauty, one for eternity, like "Animation" or "Turn of the century". When I listen to this song, I breathe more deeply and I feel like being harmonized.
In the mid 80’s, between college school years, and before I met my wife I had a tough job that was second shift. On the first of my two days off I would play side two of the SOS cassette as soon as I would get up. By the time it was over I felt at peace and human again.
What a wonderful thing it is to be able to create such a stunning piece of music. To cause people to weep at the beauty of something that was created from nothing, what a gift that is to the world. Im both fascinated and baffled by Jon Andersons lyrics. However all I know is that I love this piece and many others
If you want to see love and joy simply watch young undomesticated children at play - Toltec wisdom. Or you can listen to Jon Anderson. Love you my brother 😊
Jon Anderson and old Genesis is the reason I survived my youth! The 70's were a pretty rough landscape. I own EVERYTHING he's ever done including his Cameos. I have two "Olias of Sunhillow" vinyls, one to spin and the other will remain an unopened virgin vinyl in a plastic sleeve correctly stored with the rest of my collection. Jon was the only musician I really ever wanted to meet. Thought I might even have a shot at that since one of Yes's drummers lived on the eastside around the Bellevue WA area. Oh, well. My first live Yes show was the "Going for The One" tour in '77, Seattle, WA. He'll always be my favorite male vocalist of all time. Mark in Seattle
Forty years ago, I found that I had type 1 diabetes and was physically and emothionally ravaged by it. While recovering, I listened to this album incessantly. It bright me great relief then as it does now. Thanks Jon.
A true masterpiece that touches my soul!!! This song is a feel good song and brings tears to my eyes when l hear it, beyond beautiful!!! Jon's voice sounds like an Angel singing and no other voice compares in my opinion!! Thank you Jon for bringing us beautiful music to listen and sing too!!! ❤🌞🦋🌼🌻😘
I‘ve been a fan of Jon Anderson for decades. He‘s a real master of music and I‘m very thankful that he came back after his troubles with his throat. His voice is unique, can‘t be imitated in the least. Keep on, Jon, keep on making music as long as possible. I‘ve got many Yes-albums and most of your solo albums, my favourite being „In the city of Angels“.
Not just Jon's most beautiful and moving song, but one with lots of motivic Baroque-like counterpoint weaving in and out all leading eventually to a sustained musical and emotional climax. I don't use the word masterpiece much, as it's overused, but this song is a true masterpiece - thank you Jon and your great session musicians, and the Delmé String Quartet.
I bought this record at the time of its release and played it regularly ever since. After years of seeking and meditation I finally get it. Jon thankyou for planting the seed all those years ago 🙏
Clocking in at 11:07, “Song of Seven” (1980) is about dreams and embracing life’s mysteries. Jon Anderson penned this after leaving the band Yes, which he had founded in 1968. He re-joined Yes in 1983, but kept many side projects going, including more solo LPs and various collaborations with the Greek composer Vangelis. What is the significance of the number seven in this❓ “There are seven colors in a rainbow and seven musical notes. Seven has a very powerful connection to our psyche,” replied the English musician. Anderson often layered his own vocals to provide a choral effect, but on “Song of Seven” he got some help from Chris Harley - known for his work with The Alan Parsons Project - lending his voice. 💙🌈🩷
I wish "Olias" could sound as good as Johannes Luley's "Tales From Sheepfather's Grove" which seems to me to be a deliberate spiritual descendent of "Olias". It's a lovely album that seems to exude a real affection for and inspiration from Jon's opus while not being derivative. And while nothing can match Jon's first and best album, "Sheepfather" does have far better sound quality.
when i see so much hate going on theses days... its a small piece of paradise to read comments from others who feel the same way i do after all the years of listening to this song. what an adventure its been, you think, jon?
It’s been a while since I listened to this as mine is away in storage: many things that my mom and I own will have to be rescued from storage as soon as it’s possible!!!
Un genio el maestro Jon Anderson ,cuarenta años escuchándolo y hoy en mis sesenta siento q me hizo apreciar su magica música. No dejes nunca de cantar y lo esperamos en Argentina
Well said Alfredo! From a man who became a club floor-sweeper to meet musicians and met Chris Squire (R.I.P) and sold squillions of fine albums consequently, the man is a living musical genius. VBW x
Thanks, I had no idea (I just thought they were random kids but know Damion was on Circus of Heaven) but I don't think I read the album cover that carefully when I had it. This is the best way to end the song.
Dear jon Since 1968 I am with you and you with me In my best memories Surely you will be there in that moment in which all my life happens again in my last thought From my heart, thank you
I bought King Crimson's Lizard just after leaving school. It took me years to realise it was Jon singing on the first track. I didn't make the same mistake on Mike Oldfields or Vangelis's later albums. I was into Yes by that time. Days was another favourite on the Seven album. 😁
I have memories of being stressed out during an exam in college back in the 80s and the song "Days" came unbidden into my head and helped me to calm down.
Dreamsong! Wonderful! Great album! I also make a little music in my mini home-studio and as a big fan of I wished my three favourite singers (Jon Anderson, Peter Cetera (former Chicago-singer and bassist) and Joseph Williams (Toto-singer) would sing the 3 verses on my current production „Just a Dream“. Yes, this would be just a dream. Of course this is impossible, but fans are allowed to dream!
I don't know how old you are, I'm a lot of 62. I listened to it with yes, with these colossal Vangelis, with Rick Wakeman and I never tire of it, it's like with the overture of Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky. If it's spiritual I don't know, but it makes my life better.
Jon's positive spirit, which can perhaps be best expressed with the word "Yes" has been a great inspiration to me. This is the kind of music that lifts your heart and clears your mind.

One of Jon Andersons best solo pieces. Played this album so much over the 40 years, still fresh today! Could have been a YES piece.
Why does this mean so much to me? I was born on 7th July , 7 of 7! I feel like this was written just for me!
The most beautiful song I've ever heard ❤️

"Song of Seven" is beautiful... emocional and perfect. Thank you, Jon. I have this album. I'm waiting another show in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
I absolutely can't listen to this without singing along aloud.
Jon might not know this but this song could be his Masterpiece

It's Prophecy
He has MANY to choose from that's for sure.

Steve Howe didn't play on this.
@@mhiggott2931 Was I asking that? I said he is an extraordinary musician.
@@sonicairmass but why state that in a comment on a video for a song that he didn't play on?
No matter how many times I listen to this masterpiece, I weep and long for my true home...this song is a bridge to that home!

Jon has the perfect voice..

We used the string quartet section (thru the synth fanfare) as the opening music for our wedding. The whole song is wonderful.
these are wonderful in the nature, this piece is a perfect example
Jon's positive spirit, which can perhaps be best expressed with the word "Yes" has been a great inspiration to me. This is the kind of music that lifts your heart and clears your mind.

Song Of Seven
In the meeting place I sit beside, betwixt the points of heaven
I befell a friendly atmosphere revolving around seven
Oh, that number mystified my soul and captured within feelings
Those of doubt and understanding, hand in hand they set me reeling
Met me a stranger, he came here to town
Bearing gifts full of promises, discoveries of light
Said me many reasons why my merry tale
Could be justified and just both together entwined
I tell you a reason, he said, "Bless you, you fool, you fool"
You want "so belief," yet you want so much
More," you seeker
Now I see you're baffled, yet again you administer fear
Of the unexpected, you don't know the score
Everywhere you look you release parts of your senses
And everywhere there's purpose in answer to all your dreams
I can hear you saying what a dreamer, what a fool to life
Isn't it a pity that he won't come back to earth
Haven't you imagination, and is it not available
How you can be sooner or later than your thinking
Haven't you imagination and is it so impossible
That you ask of everything so your eyes can see clearly
So in an instant your story bound
A desert, the underground, on mountains high
A glacier, the heat of the day
City jungle, the sky at night
In space on a starry night
An atmosphere impossible
So you never really care
So we talk about the strength of dreams
And we talked at length of every dream
And we talked about the strength of dreams
And we talked about the strength of dreaming
I befell a friendly atmosphere revolving around seven
Oh, that number mystified my soul and captured within feelings
Those of doubt and understanding, hand to hand they set me reeling
In the seventh dream to stand alone
But not without the strength of love
To guide our way, everyday
Oh, the seventh dream, your smile can bring
Love on and on and time will
Flow forever clear
The seventh dream standing so near
And very soon
We'll walk with love
Love that I can sing to you
You
You
Is it this time of day that makes me realise
The sun is coming out to shine again
Tomorrow
Tomorrow
Is it this time of day that gives you hope
Is it this time of times that comes between the light
Are there so many dreamers in this life between a moment's time
And the stairways of love
The starlight
The starlight
Telling me that there's something to
Cling on to
Cling on to
This is probably my all time favourite song, just beautiful.
Awesome song ...Simply fantastic,! Congratulations.!!
A great video for a great song (and album). Been a fan since 1979.
The song still gives me chills. ❤️
The video reminds me of a commercial for a travel agency or a new pill to cure depression or something.
