  • Magic: The Gathering Starter Kit 2023 costs twice what Starter Kit 2022 does right now. These are the products that replaced 'Arena Starter Kit' and 'Duel Decks'. Unboxing and overview.

For what it's worth, the inclusion of the mythics, Shivan Devestator and the white anthem enchantment, makes this a slight cut above your typical starter deck. Not twice the price, but still a nice touch.

I have all 3 of the starter kits, I like them just to collect. And im always happy to teach someone the game with them

If I wanted to start playing Magic with my irl friends and had very limited grasp of the game beforehand, I think I'd still pick up a copy. Doubt many shops will stock the 2022 version this year.

At least here, they’re still very common. That’s why I draw the conclusion I do at the end. Thanks for watching!

Lots of lands is good in a starter set, make sure you can play the splashy expensive cards. It also means you don't have to buy more basics if you lean into one colour.

Watched half of the videos you put up so far, really like your style duder. I appreciate the perspective even as someone who has been in the game for years and years. Keep it up!

Silverback Elder was a $10 card for several months after it came out. This 2023 Starter Kit brought its price down. If you can get the kit for $15-17 it's a good value.

and to be clear, my “don’t recommend” is purely from the POV that last year’s is still available for £8, not that this is bad value at at £16

@@TapDoubt... sure. Still: Sarkhan, Shivan Devastator and Silverback Elder alone are worth around $15 on the secondary market.
So in terms of card value ... the starter kit 2023 is a bargain. Making every other card a bonus.
In terms of upgrading them for Standard play ... I'm not sure.
Dragons is hardly a valid archetype right now and the same is true for tokens.
However ... one can make both decks working in Pioneer.

I recently bought this and while I understand how the decks work trying to teach people who never played MTG how to play these decks is not easy and is a little to complicated for a starter deck If I could do it I would either build my own decks or get the Rookie Decks from Card Kingdom for new players.
