As an owner driver in the 70s I used to back load sand for Hoveringham from their Sandiway Quarry to the Manchester area or Liverpool which ever was available, the worst thing that ever happened to them was being taken over by Tarmac.

I used to carry sand for Hoveringham in the 70 and 80s to the Tilcon mortar plants with my own Leyland Reiver tipper, how I miss those days before all these Bullshit EU regulations came into force,no wonder so many drivers have left the job and operators finished. Tarmac ruined the job when they bought out Hoveringham like they did to every other company they took over, cut the rates to the bone so it was impossible to make a decent living out of owning a vehicle, the rates were never brilliant but Tarmac took it upon themselves to reduce them even further, had a mixer on for Top Mix later until Tarmac got their hands on it so I Pissed that off as well,I wasn’t going to work for nothing and supply the truck as well not a chance.

Great to see these old Hoveringham videos, but that bloody horrible music ruined it.

Why did some LAD cabs have the front wheels set back and some central in the cab, great slideshow.
