  • Although to some he may be more known for his signature model guitars, Pete Anderson is first and foremost an acclaimed Multi-Platinum and Grammy-Winning producer and guitarist. His groundbreaking production and guitar style perfectly framed Dwight Yoakam's songs, and the result was a series of commercial and critical triumphs for the two collaborators. In our interview, Anderson very kindly sits down with us to tell us his story, from sleeping in cars to the heights of his success. He also reveals how he had a huge hand in everything from the band's "look," to how he would rehearse the band until they could play the tunes in their sleep. All of the attention to detail and hard work paid off with a band that looked like stars and played like a well-oiled machine. All-in-all, a very enlightening peek at the innards of the music business from one of the all-time pros.

      Truetone that it is. Thank you for the quarantine study! RB and I remain close. Certainly a team effort; I write my songs of course, some of which I wrote the bones of the sig riffs along with at the time, but a whole lot of which Richard came up with in studio. And the genius fills. Even those I wrote, he sure took them to another level. Always does!

    Some paralells in guitars and amps for sure. I started with a Ventures Mosrite 3/4 scale, painted it candy apple red and traded for a '68 Gibson Walnut 345 then for a '71 LP Deluxe then Fenders. Used the wet/dry thing as well with a rewired 305a Harmony (read Princeton circuit chan, then ged to brown face Deluxe and long tail for ngain and a 70s SF Super Reverb which I only use the top re-coned 10s. EV12Ls are the best also love the Celestion Vintage 30s in a Deluxe. Zac, this was so interesting following a 40 yr career. Now to get time to watch prt 2.

    • @travissmith9451
      @travissmith9451 Před 4 lety +1

      I take it you're familiar with Steve Pryor. Steve was finally in a really good place when he had his accident. As with so many musicians Steve certainly had his demons but he had them at bay for the better part of the 2000's. He was so unassuming and funny as hell! I live in Fayetteville, Arkansas and for quite a few years it had become something of a tradition for Steve Pryor, Steve Kimock, and Earl Cate (Cate Brothers Band) to play on the Friday and Saturday nights for Earls birthday which is December 26. That's something of a testament to how much Pryor turned his life around because Kimock may not be everyone's cup of tea but he doesn't allow just anyone on his stage. I'd love to hear any of Pete's tales from working with Steve if you'd be inclined to share. Sorry for the novel! Take care and keep those interviews coming!

    I wanted to say that superstars like Dwight, are always getting the complaints, from personnel, band, management, etc...Because everyone takes the perspective, 'They're huge, commanding stars, with a enormous fan base, tremendous platinum, gold awards and wealth'. So, they can absorb, handle everything..kinda like the buck stops ...but its hard when you're the entity, responsible.. You always have to ask yourself, '"If Dwight dose not show ..do the fans still come to the concert or buy the record if he's not on it? Dwight thru his original, sexy, authentic lyrics, vocals and performance is a true superstar (and in that legendary bracket now) So its up to Pete, to approach Dwight, and say 'forget about yesterdays news, let's make sone new magic and hits that only we can for tomorrow!'
    Remember and its easy to forget the sales, the audience, is all predicated upon the boot shaken, dancing, sexy moves and vocals of Dwight...and although the sound is greatly responsible for the hits..All the girls, and I mean hot babes, blondes, mini shirts, boots singing along comprise 80% of his LIVE CONCERTS! My first Dwight show..I thought.. its a video shoot.. and went to a second concert... and it was the same... all babes in the audience!
    DWIGHT IS A MAJOR SUPERSTAR....AND WITH PETE... THE BAND AND SHOW ARE AT FULL POWER!
    I know Pete has a really good, honest perspective on it all, by the kind, reflection at the end, regarding him and pal Dwight, "TWENTY YEARS IS ALOT TO ASK OF ANYONE TO PUT UP WITH PETE ANDERSON"
    Do I have to get a case and lasso these two for a reunion?
