    PK had a NBA approach to his career in a sport where that is frowned upon and the players are brainwashed against that mindset from childhood. He was ahead of his time and just did not fit in. Ironically PK would be mild in the NBA. That's why the American media love him.

    Ok... PK was a good and generous person. And the other night was a great moment....But let's not revisit history... He was not a great teamate. Let's face the facts... His teamates didn't like him in Montreal, his temates eventually soured on him in Nashville too. Bergevin thought PK should be more focused on the team and less on his brand. Given how Pks career ended with seasons of 18, 19 and 22 points, can we not agree that perhaps Bergevin was right? The PK-Weber trade was a great trade for Montreal. Players and coaches loved Weber. Suzuki and Caufield love Weber. The way Weber played in the Cup final a few years ago I'm sure will inspire them the rest of their careers.
    Plus, I also think Bergevin did PK a favor by trading him. Can you imagine the PK that played in New Jersey playing for the Montreal Canadiens? A guy with a 9 million dollar contract, being in all those commercials, going to all those events and putting up very disappointing numbers? He would have been booed non-stop be the very same fans that gave him a standing ovation the other night.

    Nice send off for PK.
    He gave a lot to the community of Montreal. He was not a favorite of mine. Every time he touched the puck, I held my breath. I just did not know if PK would score a goal, or give up the puck in the middle of the ice, resulting in a turn over and scoring opportunity for the other team.
    That sums up PK. A skilled hard-working player, bigger than life, a distracting personality, generous to a fault. He was equally dangerous to both the opposition as well as the Habs. I breathed a sigh of relief when he was traded for Shae Weber.
    I like him more for we what he gave to the hospital, families and children than anything he ever did on the ice.

    As a Devil fan here in Philthy since day one of their nice in 1982, I always loved PK and hoped a miracle could happen and he somehow be a Devil. In a 3 week span two of my puck works dreams came true. First we would draft a player with the qualities of my favorite center of all time that being Igor Larionov and THAT came true with the young and dynamic Jack Hughes and then we traded for PK, WOW....I WAS SOOOO HAPPY. I am so happy we had PK such a great ambassador for the game. Did Max blame his hit by Chara as retaliation cause I the PK on Marchand hit? PK was more of a leader than Max ever was in the ice? Did Max think PK "SHOWED" HIM UP? I always wish the Habs well, I love their history and appreciate their contributions to the game. In 79, I fell in love with the game because of two teams and one player The Soviet/Russian National team (CCCP) and CSKA CENTRAL RED ARMY MOSCOW and player Vladislav Tretiak. Always loved how Montreal welcomed them and showed the deserved respect. Little did I know there was a little boy one year older than me that would become my favorite player of all time and also a student then teacher at the Tretiak Goaltending Academy in St Leonard: Martin Brodeur. Save the debate Patty Roy fans and I truly do respect him.
    However 3 things separate Marty over all the rest: As time advances and year after year we see major mistakes weekly made by goalies playing the puck, NO ONE as a goalie played the puck like Marty, not only serving as a third D man,hell he passes the puck better than most D men. Marty never put himself he before the team demanding playing time as Roy did on the plane to be Nagano, a tournament he was mediocre at best and never did you see Marty make a glove save, showboat in the air as the puck rolls OUT of said glove. Out of Montreal there was a great publication, in fact, the greatest magazine dedicated to the goalie called "Goalies World." That amazing magazine dedicated a record 4 specials breaking down Marty' s style because he didn't play the Quebecois Butterfly 24/7. No, he left the Allaire school for Tretiak's because he e was an athlete.....an artist in the crease. Daniel Alfredson said it be est, "I could come down on the wing and take a shot 3 times and each time he would make 3 different saves.,". For me, the greatest if all in hockey were Martin Brodeur, Pavel Bure, Igor Larionov, Wayne Gretzky, Scott Stevens, Bobby Orr, Vladislav Tretiak,Larry Robinson, Slava Fetisov.....The greatest line ever "Green Unit/KLM LINE"...Sidney Crosby and now...... Connor McDavid but I prefer MY......MY SUPERSTARS: JACK HUGHES AND NICO HISCHIER. GET READY because soon added will be Luke Hughes and Soon to be in the wing of Jack from the KHL OMSK HAWKS: ARSENI GRITSYUK. The talent in my beloved system if the New Jersey Devils is unmatched..... Montreal has a nice future ahead for sure, your franchise as it was when Marty played and now the era of Jack, Nico and Mighty New Jersey Devils will STILL AND AS ALWAYS OWN THE HABS

  • @bolo5190

    To me in some ways I could live with Gallagher criticizing PK's game at times when he was with the Canadiens because Gallagher always brings it and still is doing so even though he's getting injured frequently at this stage of career, it doesn't mean he's worth 6.5 mill and in a long term contract for sure, the reality right now is that he has a very overrated contract given by the former gm but so far nobody could say that Gallagher doesn't bring it on a regular for the most part but for Pacioretty it's a different story because I don't think he was in any position to be criticizing PK's performance or leadership, for Gallagher yes he is in that position.
    If there was one legitimate criticism about Subban, to me it would be at times that he would try to do too much with the puck when he should have just made the simple fundamental play but overall he should have never been traded no doubt..

    • @bgood4449
      @bgood4449 Před rokem

      What offensive defenseman didn't/doesn't try to do more especially on an offensively challenged team? I never hear that critique of other defenseman like Josi, Karlsson, Burns, even Coffey could score 100 points and barely be a plus player. Maybe if Montreal had any forwards that could consistently score more than 65 points, he wouldn't have had to try to do more. That is such a B.S. criticism of the guy. I just think folks should at least be intellectually honest as to why they don't like him. He brought it with flair every night to that otherwise boring as F dump and chase snorefest 😴😴 Thierren put on the ice every night.

      @bolo5190 Před rokem

      @@bgood4449 By the way I agree with a lot of things that you said no doubt because some of the things you said is what already thought about before.
      One thing for sure, Subban was by far the Canadiens best playmaker at the time amongst their skaters no doubt we both agree on that and the second best playmaker after him was Markov, so yeah that right there says a lot about the Canadiens forwards at that time for sure that they weren't that good a lot of the top forwards at the time were average, a lot of the offense was generated by Subban and then Markov and they are defensemans so they had lots on their plate to handle no doubt.
      Overall like I said at the end of my previous comment, Subban should have never been traded, it should have never even came close to that at all at that point.

    Sorry but PK was most responsible for the trade. His point production and game generally were going south. There is a limit on how many 2 minute shifts at critical points in a game any management will accept. And the proof of this is that the Preds sent him on his way too after trading their most popular player to get him,

      @Daniel Shays The Preds made the finals with PK in his very first year there. Something they never did in over a decade with Weber. PK was also a norris finalist that year. He developed chronic back issues which is why his play declined and he was traded.
