I mixed this record with Raf and Jack in March 2020. It was the final week before the first lockdown in the UK and I'll never forget the feeling of unease in the pub across the road and how privileged I felt at being able to shun the world for a few more days to work on these enchanting recordings. It will always be one of my favourite projects to have been on the team for. Big up to Raf for having me involved and big up Saul for writing such singular tunes. I'm glad the world can finally hear it.
Thanks for the back story James. I was similarly lucky to be doing music related work during lockdown, and also to have been sent the link to this recording. It’s really a wonderful slice of genius by all those involved. I am also so happy that it is out in the world finally. It’s getting unprecedented, but deserved love here. Thanks for helping bring it to us.
@@LouSmith @jamesrandmusic - Thanks to you both, I've been dying to hear this. It's truly great. x

What WOULD we do without Lou Smith? It doesn't bear thinking about. Thanks so much for uploading this.
Thanks Geoman. I don’t know what I’d be doing without me, that’s for sure.
If it's an AUTHORIZED release, here.
@davidames1746 true that.
@davidames1746 this is authorised by the artist and level, so if you put it like that ...
Consistently one of the best songwriters in the UK
The songs are beautiful. Big credit also goes to Lias Saoudi and Alex White for co creating them.
i knew someday i could hear this.. thanks Lou for helping folks at the other side of the world
Hey Ronald. It’s been a beacon for a few years now. I’m glad when it finds people far away.
Gorgeous. And what a beautiful and apt dedication!
Thanks Ingrid. Got to share those photos again too. X
Thanks once again, Lou !
A pleasure once again!
The first track "The Midlands!!! I'm never ever blown away so much now days, but that definately does
Yeah. It's a beauty. So melancholic.
This is great, downloaded, thanks & congrats Lou 🙏👏🤘
Hey Bruno. 💜💜💜
Thank you Lou as always
You're welcome. This was a very special evening.
Kent is an incredible song. Thanks for uploading this, Saul is fiercely talented.
It's a beauty. Hard to fault any of it. Kent had the most name changes of them though.
Thanks for sharing Lou! Been looking forward to hearing this since seeing him live in Leeds
Thanks! You’re welcome. Leeds has a lot to answer for. My birth for one!
@@LouSmith haha, mine too!

Now I’m blushing xx
this is exactly what i hoped it would be. i hope saul realises this is as wonderful as it is
Well that’s a relief! After a long wait. It’s been sitting in limbo for three years, so i imagine Saul has been in and out of love with it over that time.
Yes Lou! Hero. What a record.

Ahhh finally!!! Thank you VERY much for this Lou 🙏🏻 Truly doing god's work
Thanks. Yes, it took a while. Hopefully it’ll remain here as testament.
Beautiful.
Yup😄
The Midlands and AOS are just so beautiful... Wonderful album!
It may get released one day. That's what I heard. But not until after another release. It is a beauty, but it's also quite old now.
Cheers for this Lou
You’re welcome. Everyone needs to hear this.
Just found this over the weekend. I've listened to 'I Miss Living Without You' at least 100 times since, surely the best song I've heard all year. Amazing to realise these photos are from St. Giles Church one road over from me, What I wouldn't do to get this on wax... Thank you Lou!
Hey Charlie. Indeed, it’s a beauty. Such a sweet melody, and then the slightly barbed lyric offsetting that. I guess you missed the memo about this gig then? Shame. Hopefully there will be an official release of the album again. I think this was a run of 500 which makes them currently pretty rare. Thanks for the comment.
What a great record. My favourite is Markle Moon/Dribcot Funeral March, it's so beautiful. Thanks for uploading! Saul is a genius
It is a beauty. My favourites change over time, but every one of them brings something.
Awesome pictures Lou
Thank you 😀💜
Cheers Lou and cheers Saul. Nice album. Saul the great.
Hey John. Thanks. It’s such a great record.
been listening on repeat since getting home from work yesterday - what an astonishing album. bracingly emotional, autumnal slice of new weird britain. highlights for me are Kent, I Miss Living Without You, and Papa Baja. cheers again Lou, gonna have this one on the figurative turntable for a long time to come
It can withstand a lifetime of listening, I’m sure. It’s really beautiful. There’s an insecure men album sitting in limbo, waiting to be set free to look forward to
I loved the first insecure men album so that's great to hear@@LouSmith
Fingers crossed it actually sees the light of day. Nothing is ever straightforward where Saul is concerned.
1 year later, still returning to this album more than almost any other. Thank you Lou, keep up the great work!
Thanks. Yes, my stats corroborate that. It’s regularly rating top five of my vids over time. It may well live to see an official release through Domino too one day, though they’re looking for another insecure men album first, then release this subsequently.
simply brilliant
It is. Simple and brilliant. Plenty of space.
Fantastic Music Saul. Glad your Well. Thanks Lou.
🙏 yes. A lot of love for this performance.
If this is ever pressed again please god let me know. Amazing. Saul rules
You might have to pray to the other fella knowing Saul. 😉
Insecure Men and Serf's Up were two of my favorite releases from the '10s, and this will no doubt be one of my top favorites from the '20s. Saul really knows how to reach my ear..
Thank you for posting this, Lou, indeed what would we do without you?
🙏💚 yes, both beauties. There is in fact another Insecure Men album recorded on Fat Possum called Into the Bog which is another gem that might not ever see the light of a release. I think if you check the moth club IM gig there are a couple of tracks off it there. czcams.com/video/Ehp8OFIWpsw/video.html
Karen, In the (Gulag) of Your Heart, Leave Me Where I Lie, Norman are the songs off it.
@LouSmith Wow, thank you so much for sharing that info and those songs! That's a real shame if it's never released, stuck in the bog apparently.
@@RMBII91 Yup. Bogged down in Limbo without a peddle.

this is really stunning
It’s a beauty. Suddenly getting a lot of love here. Must be the season.
the first track is especially beautiful@@LouSmith
It is.
unbelievably beautiful album. i hope this reaches more people and he considers doing a repress! i desperately want a copy
It is hauntingly beautiful. It’s only partly in Saul’s hands to issue a re-press. His label shied away from releasing it at all, eventually agreeing to this release under licence. Seeing that it went well, and didn’t attract the feared and threatened cancelling actions by others, there was the very beginning of a possibility of an official release. The label did have this video taken down, but reinstated it after Saul furiously intervened. Apparently it was just the legal dept acting independently, with management seemingly giving me a pass on it. Not sure what happened since then. You may have to buy a second hand one.
@@LouSmith thanks so much for the info! i will try to hunt down a copy from someone
@@LouSmith out of curiosity, who is his label?
Domino owns the rights to it.
Good luck!
bought the last one he had the other day, can't wait to have a listen to it when it arrives
hah. i did the same thing and bought one of the last copies. waiting for it to arrive. not going to listen to this...tempting as it is.

@@bunko74 yup. I’m sure there is somebody else handling the postage, otherwise, I’d hate to speculate.
Album of the year.
It’s a gem.
Truly - Lou, what would we do without you?
I truly don’t know. It’s an interesting existential question, particularly for me.
This is superb. Also, my cat is listening very attentively.
Very Nice
Very, very.
Thanks! Enjoy hearing London sounds here in Alaska, esp FWF members.
Thanks for your generosity Carol. I’m always happy to be filming FWF (and ex FWF) members and love to hear that my efforts are appreciated far and wide. 🙏💜 I was out filming Saul’s ‘a night in heaven’ last night, so you won’t have long to wait for the next instalment.
@@LouSmith will that amount get you into a show over there???? Lol (watching the new one as we speak ;-) )
More than! I have been afforded free access to all gigs I wish to attend for quite a while now. Local venues, my face is my ticket, and I can always ask for a guest list for other venues. Also, I now qualify for free public transport, fortunate since I had two cars stolen last year. Fat White Family are doing an in store show next week for which I did buy a ticket. Trouble is now that they’re playing big venues which are much harder to film successfully due to the much louder sound, which just sounds muddy and distorted on my camera. I don’t get paid for any of the work that goes into this channel though, which amounts to tens of hours a week in average, with just the measly ad revenue of around $45 a week coming in, so your generosity is definitely appreciated. The FWF in store will be a stripped back unit I believe. There’s quite a rift formed between the two camps since Saul was ousted, with me trying to walk the tentative line between. 😬
back again after hearing the story for aos on that podcast, absolutely fascinating
It was generally a fascinating listen that.
My appreciation for this album grows a little more each week -- "Kent" is staggeringly beautiful. I'm sad I slept on the initial pressing but I thank you so much for this. I noticed Saul has been dropping the videos on his Instagram page; I wonder if it bodes well for a proper release, but I doubt it. I guess I'll have to join the email-writing campaign to Domino and Fat Possum then.
You never know. They could at least allow for another licensed release. Pretty sure Saul is being a firebrand and just freeing his works from the shackles of tyranny. Fair play to him. I think it’s a good gambit.
@@LouSmith And good for him! I hope the response encourages the label. It's such a special album, even for Saul and the Fat White World.
brian is just so beautiful
It's about Nathan you know?
@@LouSmith yes he's in the video as well isn't he?
@willyoufade the promo video of the song, yes. Looking unlikely that we'll ever see a release of it now though.
@@LouSmith niall sent me a link to it a couple weeks back, great video
@willyoufade oh cool. It's doing the underground.
I had the chance to see him yesterday it’s sublime
Sweet. In Paris?
@@LouSmith yes at serpent à plume club, it was fantastic
@kentinjivek lovely. It's quite rare for him to be in England now. I guess with the split from the fat whites, he feels less inclined to. Glad to hear he's doing his thing to good effect.
gold
And pearls
This is stunning, would make a great score for a ghost story. Hoping it will be released soon.
Not sure what happened with release. I did think that after the success of the limited release and tour that it'd pave the way to a full Domino release, bit then there's always Saul himself to consider. Not always his own best friend.
@@LouSmith It adds to the intrigue, which I love, but it's also sad that it will pass people by.
@heirloomsanimation4032 well in the meantime it is here in all its digital analogue glory.
‘Waiting for Adam’ made me cry
Literally waiting for Adam has been known to have the same effect. Hence the song I guess.
Why isnt this stuff on spotify? I love sauls work and fwf, but I had no idea this was out. Glad i revisited your channel, great stuff!
This is only a limited pressing under licence from Domino, who refuse to release it properly, including to streaming platforms. It’s due to fear about a backlash about historical allegations if they release it. This is definitely the place to stay up to date with all of the FWF spin offs. 🙏
While I dislike the term, hauntingly beautiful is all that comes to mind.
Truly one for the ages, thank you so much for uploading this!
By the way, you wouldn't have some insider info on the rumored upcoming Insecure Men album you'd be willing to share, would you?
You’re welcome Heinrich. I’ve been lucky to have known this album throughout the period of limbo, and come to really love it very much. I’m so glad it’s finally in the world. Insecure men have an album recorded, working title into the bog. There are I think four of the tracks from it performed live at the Moth cCub show I filmed. I’ll let you work out which ones. I don’t know anything about release dates or touring. czcams.com/video/Ehp8OFIWpsw/video.html
Can't believe I've missed this, thanks again!
Check the recent gig from Peckham Audio too. Lovely set.
Waiting for adam is beautiful
And oh so true! He’s worth the wait though.
Hey Lou, you did it - good work!
Thanks Dave. Yeah finally xx
You done a fine job - I still haven’t got a proper cover for mine.
@@DaveThomson_WOO you can hear the needle drop, which I like. There’s no more left, so you may have to live with no cover. I got one of each. I bought one and swapped one for photos.
@@LouSmith I’d better call Saul..!
Sorry…
is it just me hearing Albarn-isms in the vocals (esp. on Kent for example)? saul has a great voice in his own right, but thought it was interesting to note. wonderful album
Love an Albarn-ism me. 😉
always thought he sounds a bit like albarn, but more gorillaz albarn than blur albarn
Now that you metion it yes, definitely!!
Need this on vinyl
That's a long queue now. Domino! You listening?
I like moody arrangements. Good stuff.
He’s the king of moody imo.
God bless, I think Saul is a real genius. This album makes me want to shoot everyone I know and at the same time bake them a thin cake . Im well obsessed with the deep rooted melodies in this record, it’s like water shipped down banged up on 6 Valium’s, Dan Treacy hand in hand with Dorothy Ashby if she only had 3 fingers
Like it. I'd settle for the thin cake any day.
fuckin first good news this whole bloody week
Well that’s something. I’ve had one of those weeks too.
As a fan of fat white family. I didn't know about Saul's solo stuff. Going to keep an eye out for it
He’s still doing it. Maybe this will get a proper release one day. Not sure right now. There is also a second insecure men recording that seems to be a long time sitting on a shelf. No more fat white family for him though. Keep your ears open for some FWF news too.
So beautiful, thanks so much for uploading! Any word on whether there’ll be a second solo album from Saul or another Insecure Men record?
instagram.com/saul.adamczewski?igsh=bG96d3NmbjAwMXRl 🙏 check his Instagram posts. There’s one about The Coward, new Insecure Men album dropping at some point. There’s been another Insecure Men album on Fat Possum for some time called Into the Bog, though that may have suffered the same fate as this one. Shelved due to concerns about Saul leading to cancellation etc.
@@LouSmith Thanks! 🙌
Love that the recording sounds live, brings me back to St. Giles. Will the Brian vid ever be released? Looks hilarious
Haha yeah. Not sure about that. I didn’t realise that domino still held the rights when i uploaded it, and they issued a copyright take down order. Saul was livid and wrote an email, which garnered an apology and a reversal of the claim. Unheard of. I think the video is not so fortunate, with the director so far being unable to get them to release it. It was a hoot.
@@LouSmith ah shame /: Saul vs the industry as always
@@isaacfisher2482 so it would seem. It wouldn’t be right otherwise.
What!!? Bastards!! I was really looking forward to that video it looked hilarious!! Unbelievable.
@@zammomaguire3835 never say never though. I mean, I think the olive branch proffered by the label might yet bear fruit. It could help them recoup the costs of recording and making it.
It’s just beautiful ain’t it.
Ain’t it just?
Is Saul still in FWF? Lately I ve been reading Ten thousand apologies, and watching Saul's drone performances. I dig this album but I was just curious are they recording album without him or what?
He’s no longer with FWF, no. This album was written before the split, but the current FWF album will be a Saul free zone.
Saul es Dios 🙌😎
🤩🤩🤩
Great album but what happened to that "people of the world" track that was doing the rounds in the live set? Was it a runt of the litter?....it was one of my favourites....unless it's an Insecure Men track?
No idea what happened to it. Pretty sure it's not on the Insecure Men recording. It happens though that songs don't make it to album. Saul is pretty prolific after all.
Kent reminds me a bit of Appendix Out - there's a Peel Session version of Frozen Blight which is good.
That’s a deep dive.
@@LouSmith Yeah I thought that when I typed it. It's just a vibe thing - i don't really expect anyone else to hear the similarity. Just a laid back but melancholic and slightly unsettling folksy feel to both songs.
@@Unfunny_Username_389 All of the above. I did track down the session, as I'd never heard of them. Resisted the deep dive rabbit hole as I have more uploads to get on with. :)
@@LouSmith Yeah there's absolutely no reason why you'd ever have heard of Appendix Out. The only reason I had was because, at that time, I was listening to Peel a lot. But that song Frozen Blight definitely made an impression, like Kent did.
@@Unfunny_Username_389 I was actually surprised to find that peel sessions were still a thing in the noughties. I used to be a JP addict in the seventies and early eighties, but then fell out of the habit.
I thought the title was a reference to lou reed. And i miss living without you confuses me. Its all so beautiful though. Thank you. I'm sorry.
I think the title is inspired by William Burroughs. The image that accompanies the soundcloud stream has a picture of boroughs with a shotgun.
Great album this. Is Saul a lyricist now? Some great lines being crooned here.
By Saul’s own admission, the better lyrics were perhaps not his own. It is a great album. I think half at least has Lias’s hand on it. If you watch the video it has a credit list somewhere. Alex White also has writing credits. It is a great album.
The ballad bella canzone
It’s a beauty indeed.
This album is amazing, why is it impossible to find annywhere ?
It was a limited release of 500 copies, which primarily went to people who turned up to see him at his series of shows. Domino record holds the rights, but licensed it for this limited release. Whether or not it ever gets a second, official release we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, it is absolutely possible to find it here.
wonderfull record, any news about a repress?? absolut need. thanks
I haven't heard anything. I haven't seen Saul for a while tbh, but he's in the country atm I think at least.
Is the Lou on the album cover referring to you?
Of course! 💜
I need This Vinyl or Cd
Can’t see it. Vinyl maybe. Who knows?
will it ever be chucked on streaming?
Personally I hope not, just because I hate how streaming platforms blatantly rip off the artists. Pretty sure Saul doesn’t really do bank accounts, so it’d be even more useless to him than to most.
Any way of getting the files? I've got the record but they aren't very portable - no use on a bus journey.
Not sure I’m authorised to distribute bootlegs Sam. I’m sure you could find a way. 😉
@@LouSmith It's alright lou ill just have to invest in more mobile data for this vid

So far at any rate.
Does this record feature my deconstructed piano by any chance? I donated a stand-up to the greater good. I gather it was remade into some kind of behemoth prog rock noise machine.
I would’ve thought you’d be the best judge of that. I think it’s more likely to have ended up on the drone/ gloom project recently aired. This album has been recorded for a couple of years, maybe three.
He wrote a Paul Sykes quote on my copy lol
Nice. Paul Sykes didn’t mince words. Just faces. That’ll be a treasure then.
Is there any way to get a copy of this excellent album?
Hmmm! bribery? Buying somebody else’s copy? Realistically, wait for a re press maybe. I’m sure that would work out financially for them if they opted for that.
Does anyone know what tuning Saul uses?
What are the stills from in "Brian"? I see Nathan in them, was this a music vid shot in 2020 and never released? Looks like some money went into it.

The shots you got at the “Brian”shoot !!! Totes amazeballs lou 😂😎
Thanks my man. Yes, that was my job for the day. The Landy actually saved the day, as the locations were spread out over farmland which was steep and muddy to get to and it was tipping down in and of most of the day, so it acted as camera caddy and dry storage for the tech gear. Otherwise they’d have been stuffed.
QUE DELICIA!
Delicia is our business.
Who is carrying these import records in the mid Atlantic of the U.S. ? I can never find this stuff in stores and they always drop when I’m fuckin broke. HMU if you’re in the VA/MD area and you buy stuff like this. You should be cause homies this is the real shit.
Hey Sam. This record was never available, except as a limited pressing of 500 copies under licence from Domino by Juicy Juice records, and then only in person at a short run of gigs around the country. The only way you’d get one would be second hand if you could find somebody willing to sell. A long term strategy might be to contact Domino direct and plead the case for a proper release.
