- THE YALE DIARIES (season 1, episode 1): Freshman Year Begins 🤍💙 in the first ever episode of The Yale Diaries, we begin at orientation week (footage I've never shown before!) and then experience my first six weeks of studying remotely from Perth with a 12 hour time difference. also in this episode, I finally get my student visa (more new footage!), prepare to move to the US, and sit my first two midterms in the middle of the night. the episode ends on the night before I leave for the US, where I give a raw and honest chat about how I'm feeling (I've never shown this footage before either!)
The Yale Diaries (Season 1) is a series of 7 videos that go through, in chronological order, my first year experience studying at Yale from August 2020 - May 2021. while I've shared most of my journey on my youtube channel so far, there's a lot of footage I haven't shown you yet, and a lot of stories I haven't told at all. the aim of The Yale Diaries is to cover every detail of my college experience as a freshman, and to tell you the full story in chronological order. Yale is my dream and just watching this video makes me feel like i’m with you, walking on the campus, making your room, meeting new people. I know that i’ll probably never get the chance to go there (because i’m from the UK and not financially able to even go on an exchange year), but i still enjoyed watching, and will continue living this dream through the screen of my phone. Haven't watched yet but I know I'm going to love it. Please never stop doing videos, we're kind of in a similar situation, I'm Mexican but was granted with a full scholarship to study my Bacherlor's degree in South Korea, while I'm pretty happy with that, being in another culture, with people who speak another language while being away from your loved ones is tough! Watching your videos keeps me motivated to keep going, wish you the best always, Tia xxx

Only just got round to watching it since I've had lots going on for uni, but love this video so much! I really hope this next year goes more smoothly for you - it will still be crazy busy I'm sure, but just uni level of busy without also having to worry about everything that was happening this past year! I felt for you when you had the exam at 1am. I had full-blown sleep apnoea from when I was about 14, so I got used to being tired all the time during school. I could imagine if you slept like a normal person this would be hard to cope with. I'm typing this at 3:12am in Victoria, which would be 1:12 am if you were in Perth. I have been awake for 3 hours already and start work at 8am.
This is how I live every day and have done for a very long time, so I bet you were happy when you went to Yale just for being on the same time as everyone else. Best wishes for the rest of your studies - I did my degree part-time while I worked, so only went to weekend classes, so I don't actually feel like i "went to uni" in the way you are. All the best and smash it :)

I've done most the the general common app questions and have begun a few of the college specific questions. Are you applying for 2022? also if you want to let me know your instagram or something I can dm you and help you in any way I can if you'd like that?

25:00 i find it more than unfair that the college didn't adapt to students outside the country, not even for the midterms... like you said so many students were scattered across the globe, and yale just decided to continue classes as usually? in contrast, my uni immediately switched to asynchronous studying with voluntary zoom meetings for those who had questions. idk. for a big college like yale, you'd think they'd be a bit more creative in situations like these.

Tia. Greetings from Texas. I was wondering if you could get an apartment with 2 of your friends ( to split the rent) near Yale, so that during the summers when you visit home you don’t have to carry every single thing with you back and forth. Love you!!!
Tia, Love your videos. How did your trip down South go? You said, July 11th in your last blog. Did you mean to say August 11th? A few weeks before you return to Yale for Sophomore year. Lastly, I Found it funny about your visa. You couldn't figure it out. Yale University is supposed to be for smart people that attend there. I'll give you a little slack-leeway for the first year.

How does it feel to finish your first year at Yale?
pretty good! it kind of just happened though, I think because everything was online it didn't really feel as exciting - it didn't feel like an event or anything if that makes sense
That’s so disappointing about not accommodating your time difference for your exam. The economics department really should’ve done something.
After finishing your freshman year of Yale, what advice would you best give high school students? By the way, I also had that anxious situation that is the same as yours too. I understand what you mean
I would be interested in how people react when they learn you go to Yale. I often said what others from such places said. Do they still say it? I go to college in Connecticut. Hiding Yale. My parents dropped out of school at 14. Before I left I never saw them read a book. My mother told me we were not poor white southern trash. We were just “tacky.” Which meant we knew the difference between proper and improper but for whatever reason didn’t do what nice people did. So I was used to being looked down on. One thing that amazed me at Yale was that people who were my social superiors, such as a middle aged secretary in a Yale office, clearly viewed me, a 17 year old, wearing a $17 jacket from Sears, as some sort of God like creature. I could tell that many of them viewed me as some sort of rock star or something, just because I had the brain power to be a Yalie. Me, a dorky 17 year old from nowhere. That amazed me. I never see any vlog from students at good schools discuss the social implications of “going to college in Connecticut.”
As someone from Perth, Australia I can tell you that Tia went to an 'elite', all-girls school- so nobody she would meet in person should really be surprised by her going to Yale. Essentially everyone in her year would have gone to a highly ranked Australian, UK or US university. A number of girls from my school (a different but equally 'elite' all girls school) have gone to college in the US- more than one also to Yale.
