Your comment about these texture maps being a good proxy for modeling details was very insightful. I took that to heart in my model and am really enjoying making cool things like washer dryers, louvered doors, closest with hanging clothes, etc. Its really wonderful.
Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted. Pointed here by a sketch-up commentator and it is perfect, (right down to the tiling of a fireplace I am drawing. Thank you.. (it is a bonus that I can understand it!
Inflation since 2010 when this video was posted has pushed the cost of a SpaceNavigator to considerably over $100. Seems every time I manage to save up enough money to buy something, by the time I'm done saving, it's price has doubled and I have to return to saving mode !!
Your sketchup tutorials are the best on the net bro. I was wondering if it was possible to use a gif image on a surface in sketchup? I kinda wanted to have a wood burning stove window with dancing flames in my model.
Sketchup won't let me add custom texture to the face I've chosen. Gives me a circle with bar in it as in "not allowed" but paint bucket shows back up on other faces. Anyone know why?
the problem with some of your images is that they aren't images that are perfectly aligned. Meaning like the tile image was taken in a weird view. It was not taking from above, so when you tile it it looks weird.
Regarding the changes of the picture-texture(which was lovely tip) i tried to render with the Vray sketch up and the picture i get ,was change my texture.what do you reckon?
nice video.. QUESTION: Does anyone know how to add image on flooring which has radial pattern? e.g., I ant to create a border of mosaic flooring around a circular rug. I have a photo of a mosaic design that I would like to add as module in my border.. hope someone knows the answer and would not mind helping me ..
I hate absolutely everything about Apple, their products and policies. Your instructional video is superb though, thank you SO much. I have been looking for ways to create new textures/materials in sketchup for ages now, and all "the others" ever talk about is how to photomatch a sketchup model. That is of limited interest to me, so thank you for talking about other parts or textures and materials.

Thanks for an excellent tutorial Cameron
Great lesson. This is deceptively complicated. I have had to come back here several times to get it right in my model.

What happens when you render this file? Would it be easier just to import image to photo shop then custom texture then re open in sketch up?
I was thinking the same thing. Since many of us are fluent in image editing, it may be easier.
excellent work ideas . thanx
Good tips!!
Thank you!

@bigblackhoneybadger It's true... we love using Apple products. It's a choice.
