    If you have always wanted to paint your old dark colored cabinets a beautiful new colour like white, sage green, grey or perhaps navy lowers with white uppers, it is easy to do and very affordable. In this tutorial i show you how to do every step including sugar soap cleaning, how to sand kitchen cabinets, a stain blocking primer that stops yellowing and the best paint for kitchen cabinets refinishing.
    I also show you how to get the best streak free finish on kitchen cabinets using either a brush and roller or a spray gun. I tell you what kind of brush to use, what kind of roller and also suggest some cheap paint spray guns.
    I also tell you all the big mistakes that other videos don't tell you, like how to stop bugs getting your your paint, how to dry cabinets, how long do painted cabinets take to dry, why is my paint peeling or bubbling, how to stop streaks in the paint and how to fix a paint drip.
    A lot of people say chalk paint is good for painting furniture but it's NOT good for painting kitchen cupboards. They need to be very hard wearing and easily wipable.
    I used Zinser B.I.N as my primer which is a shellac based primer that stops yellowing or bleed through. I then used Dulux Renovations Cabinet Paint, but you could also use Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations. Valspar, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore also have good kitchen cabinet paint.
    I used my power corded Ozito Airless Spray Gun.

      @@wizzoz1 thank you. The Zinsser BIN is really fast drying so i didn’t want to risk getting the paint nozzle clogged up as I’m a newbie. It requires mineral turpentine clean up as well rather than then just water. People definitely do spray it, I just didn’t feel confident enough.

      Hi Drew, I haven’t refinished any countertops but I hear the epoxy finish kits are quite good. My countertops had rounded edges and angles corners so I decided to rip mine out completely. Luckily I found some amazing engineered stone countertops for $500 at an auction and installed those myself. Bargain of the century. czcams.com/video/lPiqD5cWG2k/video.html

    Hello! FANTASTIC video- thankyou So much for the spray vs roller finish comparisons and the extra tips.
    I’m still looking through the comments but I have a few questions:
    -Did you brush/roller the primer under the spray finish?
    - Were end pieces/cupboard edges brushed or rolled? If it’s brushed does the finish look too different from the sprayed doors?
    - Did i miss if you used a top coat- pros and cons?
    TY ❤️

    • @NicoleHerrickDIY
      @NicoleHerrickDIY  Před 2 lety

      Thank you. I used a brush and roller for the primer as it’s shellac based and I didn’t want to put that through my paint sprayer as it’s hard to clean and dries too quickly. So a small brush for all the details, then a roller straight after so that smooths out any brush strokes. The top / main coat is the Dulux Renovations paint. There is no extra coat over the top of that. For the cabinets, I did the brush and roller. It’s a slightly different finish but you would never notice as the bulk of what you see is the doors anyway. I had to do 3 or 4 coats with the brush and roller, only 2 coats on the doors with the sprayer.

    This was helpful! Thank you! I have primed and I will start painting mine tomorrow. Can I ask, why didn't you use the primer with the added hardener (also in the Deluxe renovation range)? I used it today and it is also self levelling, giving a very smooth finish.

    • @NicoleHerrickDIY
      @NicoleHerrickDIY  Před rokem

      The only primer they had when I used this range was for laminate. For timber it said no primer was needed but when I tried that, the tannins bled through. The Zinser BIN works out fairly cheap per job as it’s very thin so you don’t use much.

    • @melaniepearce698
      @melaniepearce698 Před rokem +1

      @@NicoleHerrickDIY Ah! Fair enough. I also used Zinzer BIN to stop stains seeping through - before the 'Renovations primer' with the hardener (as per Dulux recomendations) I'm not sure why they call it a primer - it's clear ?! It' must have come out after they released the cupboard paint.

    • @NicoleHerrickDIY
      @NicoleHerrickDIY  Před 2 lety

      The dulux renovate primer is only for laminate doors I am pretty sure. For timber it says you don’t need to use a primer but the tannins actually bleed though on most wood so that why I used the zinser BIN to lock in all the tannins and stop bleeding.
