Excellent Video ! I am diagnosing an issue with my 1992 300D and this helps explain a lot. Mine is staying in 4th gear so it accelerates very slowly with no kickdown function. If I shift manually I have no slipping and it shifts up and down smooth. I have been told I may have stuck governor weights so I am going to dive into it and see what I find.

You sure know your job Gary, you make some very in depth vids. I used to live in NY {Long Island] and for the winter i had a 1996 Grand Cherokee 5.2. When at the Mopar dealer for filter, fluid and gasket i was talking with the parts guy and he mentioned the fluid for the new [then] 8 speed is about $50.00 a quart and also that some transmissions have the filters integrated into the pan so its replaced as a unit==$$$$. Sometimes i wonder if now things are over thought especially for the long run just to get maybe .5-1 mpg increase?
Long term durability and service costs mean a lot too not just the fact that when new its a bit more fuel efficient. A few years ago my Jeep trans. was hanging up while up shifting, i replaced a few solenoids and its still 100% with 152,000 miles, i live in NC now so it just sits here.
I have a 2019 Hyundai Elantra and its a 6 speed MANUAL, in my opinion i feel they're more reliable long term and its very easy to drive, i am far from a CVT fan

Back then he had a hip replacement done but still came in on a weekend to get it done. $200.00 bucks labor for an hours work to install was a good deal for him but like i said been 10 years and no issues, i do change the fluid every 6 months to a year for maintenance so i keep on top of it. He told me he worked for Spicer so sure knows his business, also his TC price was VERY reasonable. It was $850.00 for the TC and 200.00 to install

hello i have a w210 e200 m111 136 hp with the 722.4 transmission , the car was sitting for around 3 years because of a no reverse issue ( with no oil in the trans ), i bought the car fix the reverse and after driving for some time i notice that the car is verry slow to accelerate from a standing position , the shifts are very quick it dose not stay in gear very long and the 4 gear is sliping like crazy sometimes it feels like neutral , after some time the 3 gear started to slip to , but if you dive for some time the transmission start to work ,,good,, it dose not slip ( at least i cant fel it slip ) and there is no downshifting only if I do it manually . Now when i replaced the broken reverse piston and pump assembly (front pump + B3 piston) from a donor trans i checked the K1 friction plates and the plates where like brand new so i don't think the trans is bad .
And the oil after just a few km around 400 it’s looking pretty dirty like a purple instead of red , I do have a spare valve body and a trans pressure modulator (the green one)
is it possible that the problem is from here? or i'm looking at a new transmission ?

In the Auxiliary section of the valvebody there are govenor screens, these screens normally clog causing shifting issues, you have to take the valvebody down and the valvebody plate, take the plate off the aux valvebody and check the screens

Hello Gary. I am your fan Kazybek. I like your approach to working with an automatic transmission. The fact is that I have an old Mercedes car with an automatic transmission 722.4. I can't figure out what's wrong. 1-2 gear is missing. I can't understand what is the reason. I disassembled, replaced the friction discs, and also replaced all the components, assembled. But the car does not want to engage first gear. Reverse gear works. On the lift, the car noticeably turns on the third speed at once. I wanted to ask you for advice on this reason for the automatic transmission. Thank you in advance for your expert advice!!!

The car reverses fine but the forwards slip , like it engages drive but when i touch the accelerator it just pops out of drive and free revs , and as soon as i let go it violently re-engages drive . What could it be? Previous owner didn’t instal the intermediate gasket and put the shorter gold bolts in the wrong place.

Very informative 👏. I needed some advice regarding my 722.424 gearbox as the one you performed this video on.
I have a 1996 C280, recently I fixed the vacuum manifold which distributes vacuum to the vacuum accessories. The economy function now works on the gear box, the e and s switch on the gear shifter. But now in economy it shifts earlier which is fine (like at 20km/h ,45km/h into third and about 70 into 4th with moderate throttle but it feels much slower off the start (like I'm towing a heavy load )and downshifts only if kickdown is applied or sometimes it downshifts as needed to be. My bowden cable is tightend to the max stop and modulator is properly adjusted, in standard S mode the car gets qnd goes fine locally but holds gears for a bit longer . Is this normal or is something wrong? Can you give me some guidance? Also i was having an issue regarding the kick down , I adjusted the internal full throttle adjustment Allen screw on the valve body by a 1/4 turn anti clockwise and now get it at about 30 max 2-1 downshift . If I adjust the modulator clockwise it looses the kick down if anticlockwise it shifts too softly.
The bowden cable is at the max because if I loosen it to where the 2 pointers on the throttle linkage line up, it looses kickdown and all down shifts in partial throttle
The gearbox was rebuilt by myself and I retorqued and checked clearances were in spec
All seals replaced besides the valve body but the valve body was cleaned
The car goes great with no slips or rough shifting.
My fluid level is on the max and no burnt smell or metallic or clutch shavings in the pan (rebuilt excl valvebody reseal a year ago) .

I have a 1986 300 E 722.320 trans rebuilt. I now have a guy working on the valve body and he said that 1 of the accumulator Springs is broken. So I would like to change the springs to be safe. I obviously need the one. Is there any Source you would recommend if they are no longer available at Mercedes? I use Denzel Bush Mercedes in Englewood New Jersey. I have to call them just trying to be one step ahead. There was a little material in the pan. What started happening was the trans would ride second and if I snapped the accelerator it would go into 3rd but then drop back down into second. I've been a mechanic for 30 years and work on older Volvos, older mercedes, and just about any year maker model classic car. I just never got into transmissions. I always sent them out. I just know if you use an original starter out of a 30 year old car chances of it lasting another 30 years are slim. I would think that doesn't apply to hard parts in a transmission but a used valve body spring I would think it would. But then again I'd rather take the advice of someone as experienced as you are with transmissions.

The issue I run into often is when I go and look up the parts with the oem catalog, they're not available for that vin, but when I look up that part number for the valve body seal kit it populates with options that aren't normally available. My question is, how in the world do you find these parts? Also, could we get a link to that overhaul seal kit, the picture wasn't very clear in the video?
