Air combat let me amazed. Ace combat 2 got me hooked. 3 was the first i owned and i fell in love. So i played 5 as anything else, its my all time favorite Ace Combat. Had to play 4 and zero because of it. 6 not going to the ps3 was a huge let down. Finished both PSP titles and enjoyed. Finished that one game once and traded it. Finished
Actually, this game takes place ~30-35 years after Ace Combat 5 (which takes place in 2010), so the Arkbird is supposed to be a predecessor to the R-352 Sepia.
I played this game before, and I certainly remember how the physics were so..... weird. Every plane handles as if it had thrust vectoring; that is, the plane itself often changed direction before its own flight path did. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a Pugachev's Cobra was actually possible with some of the high-maneuverability planes.
However, I did like those physics. They "feel" more realistic, because you can face in a direction different from your flight path. But, this game has no flight path indicator, so it may be a bit odd at some times.
In this mission specifically, because there is no atmosphere and no air to act on the wings, they use impulse engines instead. So you can point your aircraft in the complete opposite direction of travel if you wanted, because there's no air resistance.
@@thealliedpowers enemies stop mid air constantly in this game especially bosses, its just another way to make it difficult since it is a ps1 game so sometimes I had to make reads on when the ai would try to "cobra" me and adjust my flight path accordingly to stay behind them
In the Japanese version, there are Anime voiceovers. This is the first time I see like this. AFAIK, when I played in the English version, it's different.
Since Ace Combat 7 is gonna have space elevators, maybe we'll get a new space mission as well. Space dogfighting has always been an interesting concept as any little movement you make will be effected by Newton's first law in the vacuum.
all it means is that your aircraft will drift unless you apply your thrust to compensate the way you desire. Its not as grand a thing as you may think it is. just lots of drifting:P lol
That would be the best thing. You could pull off some sick maneuvers. Intentionally stalling your craft and putting a spin on it so you could face backwards and blast a trailing enemy from the front. I want it I want it I want it
I honestly think every single video game adaptation of space combat has gotten the whole thing totally wrong. Think about it; most, if not all of said games give you the ability to move easily in every direction, as though you have massive thrusters pointing every which way. This means you can cancel your movement in any AND EVERY direction out with ease. Additionally, most of such games spawn you really close to the other side, meaning not much time to build velocity up. Except this level. Zero Gravity has exactly 1 thrust vector; FORWARD, which also happens to be the sole direction you can fire in. It takes forever to reverse heading, and when mission starts, you're ejected at 1000kmh already. This is what space fighter combat should be. Impressive how a mission in a game about AIR combat manages to beat that of many dedicated space games.. Also, if AC7 has space missions like THIS, then that alone will sell the whole game for me. 10x so if you can fight in space in multiplayer.
It was somewhat "realistic" experience for me, even better than jackals or skelters in infinite warfare. considering it is a 90s game, ac3 was a model game made by skilled developers.

I wanted to play this game so much. I modded my American ps2 to play it. I had to take of limiters. Place an american game first until the screen went black. During the black sequence I would put in the japanese disc in and then close it up. Boom I can play jp ac3
I love this mission, my favourite in the game ( especially the re-entry part ). Too bad that my Ace Combat 3 is a downgraded/export version ( there's no anime thingy :| )

Dlc is fine it extents game's life and brings new stuff, it is bad when it is done wrong. When you don't have access to superfighters by any other ways then dlc, that is a dlc done wrong. Dlc should be done to extent the game, bring stuff that they couldn't bring by the time game was there.

I swear that I actually had an enemy Delphinus pull a cobra on me in this game. Someone else also said some enemies in AC2 can cobra.

Just emulate it... or burn it on disk, if you have a chipped PS1. You can even get the japanese version with english subtitles.

Not exactly the same, they were launching sub orbital missiles from fighter planes well within the atmosphere. Google ASAT ^^
First, it's the other way around.
Second, AC7 isn't a space mission like this one, just high altitude but not orbital.
