    Nailed it 100%. IG and similar platforms are a mental health ticking time bomb, particularly for girls and young women. They only see the good parts of others lives or even worse, totally fake lives, leading them towards serious self esteem issues. Our only hope is that AI generated content becomes so ubiquitous that it drowns out influencers and makes the whole business model collapse in on itself.

    I've been having all of the same thoughts in my brain for a while, and it's been annoying the heck out of me. I feel like watching this really tied up and put some closure on the scattered thoughts and that maybe I need a week or a month off.
    All that my algorithm's on social media will ever show me are fake millionaires, borderline sexual content, argumentative posts etc. I follow so many creative people, yet I can never find their stuff on my feeds, it always tries to direct me to posts that bring stress and anxiety into most peoples lives.
    The weirdest part is, I'm acting like were obligated to be on social media 😂

    100 pct in agreement. In Las Vegas, my home, you should see the poseurs. It's shallow. Ostentatiousness has replaced class.
    Thank you. Your observation has been my conclusion, too.
    You don't have to be wealthy to have class. I'm enjoying working toward my goals, yes, many of them financial, but also lifestyle goals which compliment who I am and how I want to grow. And, work is the key word here.
    Authenticity is chief amongst my goals. Many of the under 30, not all, are so phony and plastic, and easily discarded.

    Excellent point.
    Also I wonder why so few wealthy people give to the arts (symphony & opera). Most arts donors are the old money who value arts and education, the nouveau-riche don't care for it other than being seen at the galas in their chic couture outfits. Most arts organizations in UK, for example, are at the mercy of the Arts Council, which is slashing their budget in 2023, spelling doom for many venues outside of London.

    • @EthanFromLondon
      @EthanFromLondon  Před 9 měsíci +7

      Once old money is gone so will the arts and the art work will be hanging on the walls of the oligarchs rather then free museums for the public

    Ethan you couldn't of been more spot on with your viewpoints on social media. I have been feeling the same way for quite sometime now. I have been single for awhile now and in recent times I've thought more and more of meeting the right man to spend my life with. But I've found that so many of the guys that I interact with on these dating sites are so phony and shallow. They present themselves on their Facebook or Instagram accounts one way. But in reality they are a completely different individual altogether. It's a really sad situation. I don't know how people manage to form relationships anymore. Sometimes I wonder whether or not I'll ever be with someone again. Oh well. At least I have these groovy videos from you to watch.
    I am so happy that you are putting out more content on a regular basis now. Ethan From London your videos are absolutely fascinating. That is because YOU are a fascinating man.

    %100 agree as a 30 year old, people are motivated by easy show-off vacations, branded items. Businesses are cashing-in on the trend and enabling these people because they are profit based that is their job.
    The problem is, people who enjoy their life and money, they live their life on a plateau. Their am is not, bigger or better or more expensive. The people who Ethan describes do not know or realize that. They think they need to go somewhere more flashy than Nikki beach next year.
    Another issue with this new generation is, conversations with other wealthy people are now downgraded how much who spent on what since the last time we met. Even people who are not coming from wealth turned their life into a ''look how much we enjoy going to camping instead of spending money on a resort hotel''

    People have never been as mentally weak as they are now! Can you imagine this generation having to deal with life during the First World War and the aftermath if they managed to survive? This lot wouldn’t be able to cope period! You are totally right in your assessment of today, especially in Britain. You are also right on your assessment of the ultra rich, the only problem is we have a political system that backs them up because our politicians aspire to be part of them……everything is corrupt!

    Hey Ethan, great topic again and I agree. Just some thoughts: I'm 41 now and it's obvious to me as it is to you as well. I had a good career, lots of travel and fun but I only realized much later that the way I was living my life wasn't good for me at all. I thought it was, but I didn't really know yet who I am and what really makes a happy life for me. So I identified with who I "appeared to be". It was not a facade, because I really believed it. Now looking back, I wish I had such a realization much earlier and I could have been much happier and kept my life easy. My point is ... I think for a large majority of these young people living their life like that, they don't even realize. Maybe they will as they get older, maybe they never will. It's really sad, I hope it won't define another generation.

On CZcams (if they get rid of the stupid “shorts”) I can listen to inspirational people I choose to listen to like Ethan (and I left the channel once but rejoined) rather than being automatically force fed bits of information by people who are not in my life or even have a similar thinking as me. Pride is a sin. And you see why. People sometimes never seem to learn that having more stuff and more debt is the same game but on a higher level in terms of costs and stress. Aim to be free and loving. Not rich and sour.
    I am 27 and lucky to have developed this mindset already. My mother died of cancer and that triggered a reset of mindset. Sad that it sometimes takes extremes to change ones perspective. It is however the only positive I can learn from that situation.

    The worst violation of free-speech is here in the YT comments. It really makes no sense to me. You can say whatever you want in a video, especially if you don't monetize it. Yet, for instance if I call someone an "idiot" or a "loser" for being one, whether I'm talking about someone in the video (not even the creator, just someone period) or if someone makes a "stupid" comment, I'll get a pop-up saying my comment was removed for "Cyberbullying" and I may not be able to comment for 24 hrs as well as the threat of if I continue to do this, I could lose my account. The major problem with it is, they don't tell you what the comment was, nor can you contest it. For instance: I'll be watching a bodycam video of a police arrest and if I call the criminal an "idiot", I'm "cyberbullying" the criminal. It's ridiculous. The creator is calling them way worse names in the video and the video may even be titled "this idiot bla bla bla" but, I can't say it? I'm really tired of this moral policing. It's really fkd. Notice I had to use quotation marks on some words to even explain this. And this still may not even be seen. Someone comment on this if you can. 🤦

  • @wreagfe

    You cannot reason someone out of something they haven't been reasoned in to.
    Multiculturalism fails wherever it has been tried. What does work is a wide spectrum of diversity within societies with a Leitkultur. My preference is Rhineland European culture with a Roman-Greek-Christian foundation. AngloSaxon liberalism is literal cancer.
    Agree with your view on the Netherlands. I am wondering though if you are just talking about Amsterdam. They only get outside of the A10 (highway) ring, to travel to their cosmopolitan destinations.
    The older generations don't really have much ground to argue. They are the reason culture has degraded promoting their "freedoms" and "liberties". Corporatism is just a reflection of that in both business and politics.

Social media is instrumental in people having no human interaction and no responsibility for what they communicate via these platforms. HOWEVER, I fully believe it will go full circle and unfashionable to be presenting your activities so publicly on social media. Eventually the phone will be ditched.

    Ethan, I propose advertising as a primary contributor to the circumstance you describe. When the concept of influence was harnessed by advertisers, they realized the potential; society is following their intuition, unfortunately, advertising rules all today. Anyone going against the grain is questioned somehow common sense is no longer validated. I attribute advertising and media in a feeding frenzy of who can outperform who while both are following the same master. Their are many that realize this, Ethan. You just don't hear about them, privately, most people are afraid to be honest with themselves.

    Oof, man i tell you, back in 2008 i think, I was at college, had facebook, and you know, a time where social media was somewhat innocent, I was hanging out with someone who was alright but not the typical person i would hang out with, moreso they were hanging out with me because i "seemed" to be popular, and i was not, this guy added me as "friend" and a few days later, got their own crowd and deleted me as a "friend" Now dont get me wrong, I was not bothered about that person, but i understood the reality of the "friends list" ever since, as with social media, pretty much everyone is after each other for their own gain, but these days they even have access for the marketing to do it.
    About 2 years later, I disconnected all social networks and never looked back, my life has never been simpler, its of no benefit to me.

    I believe you are missing the point in many aspects. Just to get it out of the way, I’m not some zoomer who has a bachelors at gender studies, flipping burgers at a McDonald’s. I’m a 34 year old with a masters in Neuromarketing with a high paying job at an international media agency.
    The bone millennials and zoomers have to pick with older generations and the well-adjusted is that the world has become more and more unfair as the decades have gone by. My dad only finished high school and at 27 bought his own 3 story home. I on the other hand am highly trained and educated, save over 20% of my income for years now and can’t afford my own place, not even a 40 m2 loft at an iffy part of town. It’s no secret that costs of living have skyrocketed whilst salaries have stagnated, even worse, job security is worse today than before. In the 1950’s an average American worker could buy a house, support a family and even own company stock just for being part of the workforce.
    You could tell me that we all have the freedom to be entrepreneurs like yourself but that is not true. First of all, not everyone has the talent for it, that doesn’t mean those who don’t aren’t bright. Steve Wozniak for the life of him couldn’t sell a single computer, but to me and the whole world he’s a well-deserved genius, still he needed a marketing and sales heavyweight like Steve Jobs to actually make it in the business world. Secondly there are millions upon millions of people who are so vulnerable and poor, they just can’t get out of their slump: they are malnourished, poorly educated, lack any financial training and probably in debt just to barely get by. This is becoming worse for them as global warming, war, political inestability, economic inequality and other factors directly have an impact on their lives much more than anyone else’s.
    Civilization is failing most of humanity in many aspects and it is time that someone answered for it or make a significant change. The PC culture has gone too far in many ways I won’t deny it, but can you blame them when things are this dire? I invite you to think again about many things you said.

    • @EthanFromLondon
      @EthanFromLondon  Před 8 měsíci

      Your whole argument is void with the line “it is time someone answered for it”. You want to shift the blame to “someone”. That someone is all of us!
      You validated my point with your statement.

    • @rodrigodelaparra4737
      @rodrigodelaparra4737 Před 8 měsíci

      @@EthanFromLondon This is not about who wins an argument here, I’m not trying to attack you or make you look clueless, I’m trying to make you see something you might be missing.
      How exactly does it rely in all of us to change things if most of us are powerless to do it? Take global warming for example: there is practically nothing little me could do to change its course, not even if I was researching nuclear fussion or something of the sort. That is because our society has been built around petroleum and petrochemicals and thus the corporations have us locked between a rock and a hard place. Exxon pollutes every year what a normal person would pollute in 2 million years if they tried, that is just insane. At the same time in the U.S., where things matter most, they keep lobbying their way out of accountability, it is no surprise that the U.S. didn’t enter the Kyoto protocol when it was most critical they did.
      What exactly am I to do about unfair stagnant wages if corporations keep wildly unregulated and unaccountable for their actions? I’ve been employed for 5 transnationals and all I can tell you is it appears the C-level people are all too worried about two things: appearing to be “good, conscious progressive folk” that does support your argument, while in the other hand focus on their quotas and their quarterly and yearly bonus, no matter how they get it. So if they have to lay people off, not raise any wages nor give out any promotions when it’s more than fair, be corrupt and hurt others in the process, you bet they will do it. If government officials don’t stand to regulate these people and employees don’t have any mechanism that resembles a union, a David vs Goliath comparison would under describe the task of changing the corporate western world by yourself.
      So what do we do when we are mostly powerless? Speak truth to power on social media, which has a massive reach and doesn’t require massive amounts of money like TV or Radio to operate. Is it helpful? Sometimes, but I agree that many times it does nothing but divide us. Who actually wants to build their lives around change will either have to venture in the lion’s den into politics, climb the corporate ladder morally unscaved or build a platform as a public figure and push for accountability, fairness and regulation. But you know these things are unlikely and don’t happen overnight, so all I can say is maybe you should try to understand our frustration a bit more and understand that not all of it comes from a place of bad faith.
