I know this is an old video, but I am absolutely blown away by the detail and thoughtful layout of this video. I’ve been researching these 3 models religiously as I plan on buying in the coming months.
There’s really nothing I’ve seen that compares. I also appreciate him taking time on trunk space. It’s often skipped over but I feel like it’s such an important detail. And also showing the close ups of the dash, from other photos and videos I had no idea the dash was ✨plastic✨ on the xc40.
Anyways, well done man! Thank you! Subscribed!
How did your hunt go?
Did you get one?
I have an XC40 and absolutely love it.
However, I’m doing some research again as am thinking of either an XC60 or a 90.
My ‘retirement car’.
what detail they dont even show all 3 cars from outside from all angles, its so annoying.
Brian and Thomas, brilliant review! Enjoyed every minute! Autogefühl is the leading car chancel and we look forward to every review that comes up in our email notifications! Keep them coming guys.
Always a pleasure watching Autogefuhl reviews, thanks for a great detail review Brian.
Thank you for such a clear and comprehensive presentation.
Wow Brian! You are really good at what you do! Finally your review is getting better . Good job Brian and Thomas!
Fantastic presentation, top notch video. Have been looking at the XC60 and XC90 and this video has helped make up my mind for the XC60! Great work again from the Autogefuhl team
Excellent review thank you
Great Brian!! ur review is really awsome... keep up d good work 😄👌 .. comparison between these three cars were really interesting nd has given many information to us..
What an excellent intuitive review on all 3 of these beautiful vehicles enjoyed every minute of it.but at the end I came to this conclusion.
I want all 3.
finally the comparison video I was waiting for, thank you Autogefül. I was debating between the XC60 and the XC90 for a while and now i have decided to go with the XC60.
You forgot the voice comand for the climat controls so you dont have to use that ipad in midle,
Brilliant review 😀👍
Excellently done.
Epic comparison! Great job English Thomas!
Congratulations Brian/Autogefuhl team on a great comparison. I have the FE D4 XC40 and was waiting for a quality comparison review to compare the XC40 with other XC's. I wasn't disappointed. I can say I absolutely love my First Edition R Design XC40 in D4 AWD fully loaded spec and would recommend it to those wanting all the bells and whistles for a reasonable price with the average 40mpg return I am getting.
As always a great review Brian with a beautiful scenery......
great video very thorough
Autogefuhl... the key on the XC40. Plastic?. Well. If you spec the XC90 or the XC60 in a lower spec you will also get the same key. Its not only for the XC40.
Thanks for the fantastic video!
Normally I prefer to watch Thomas, but I have to say, you made a really great review video. I enjoyed it and look forward to your next one.
Superb review.
wow, what a scenery
Great review! I find it entertaining Brian interacts with Thomas every so often!
Have the identical R Design XC90 D5 and I think the D5 engine is perfect. For this car its very efficient.
I have a 2017 T6 AWD XC90 R-Design with the Polestar Software Upgrade, so the midrange power has no turbo lag. It has every available trim level option (4 corner air suspension, Bower & Wilkins audio, carbon fiber interior, heated windshield and rear seats, auto self parking). Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, etc., will cost at least $10-20K more for the same amount of options, not to mention their lack of standard safety tech that Volvo is known for.
@@AI-qd4vb
Next time I buy a car, you can donate the $10K difference to me to cover the cost gap, since its such an inconsequential amount in your opinion. As long as my money is involved, I'll shop for the best available value.
Very good remark for air suspension! I have never heard that before! Bravo Brian!
Instead of trying to adjust the heating controls on the centre screen, I use voice command. Temperature 25 degrees
First rate reviews Brian! We love our two new V90’s, and I agree with you on wishing for a few more basic controls, but the voice activation works well for adjusting the climate system (navigation not so much). The steering wheel is fine guys...lol.
The cars look and drive amazing; so far beyond the P3 prior generation Volvo’s: handling/driving dynamics, steering assist delivery, braking modulation and feel, are all vast improvements, and now on par with the best in segment, IMO. Brian, more steering feel comes with the optional bigger wheels, lower profile tires. I will admit that I miss our older inline 6 turbo cars, but not as much as I expected. These 4 cylinders have good pep for their size, plus their lighter weight, now positioned behind the front axle, really influence that improved handling characteristics..
As for price, Volvo always offers large discounts, and are guaranteed to be less expensive than comparably equipped Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
I watched your shortened version of this video and now checking out this version; and I've looked through the comments. While I actually came here for the XC60 review, I'm in love with the landscape. When you started talking mountain biking and actually shared the view, I was blown away (also rare for anyone to actually do that!). But I can't figure out quite where in Austria this was filmed. If you see this I would love to know!
It's near Bad Leogang, with the famous ski resort Leogang. If you're looking for an adress try 5771 Rain, Austria.
@@knusperhirsch7056 thank you so kindly!!! I just typed that into CZcams and got videos of the place. Gorgeous
I agree with you on the HVAC knobs - control on my 2016 XC90 would be a lot easier. I do have the standard sounds system, however, which is just fine.
Thanks for doing this "Volvo" comparo instead of Thomas. I find Thomas's indifferent attitude towards Volvo and most vehicles not from his homeland (but especially the Swedish maker) it was much more informative.
I have no brand favor and couldn’t care less where a car gets build. Sad that only caus I live in Germany people believe otherwise. /Thomas
Someone once said: Comparison is the thief of joy.
I'de never buy a manual gearbox ever again. But i like the XC40 the most too.
Great video guys, the balanced opinions are respectfully delivered but the viewer can appreciate you have a higher than average experience to quantify your statements .I own a V90 X Country and the polestar software upgrade on my D5 engine does improve gearbox fluency and lessen lag to a point but a more progressive throttle input is the only way to mitigate against it.I need internal space/load carrying/off road capabilities for my hobbies but the hybrid XC60 may just be a compromise worth having.....,this is video review utopia ....well done in your presentation.👍
Wowwwwwww... What a great job! 10X
Great video. 👍
Top reviews
Hi Thomas, what about a video comparing the V series?
great details thanks
You should revisit the new XC90 T8 2023 version; better software, more power (455 hk), bigger battery, etc.
One hour. :D Nice job. :)
I LOVE the way how this man introduces the cars!!! Perfect and Professional!!!
Just bought my first volvo! My first XC40 T5 Momentum 🥰🥰🥰 ALREADY OBSESSED
Congratulations! It's a great car. XC40 is a really fun car, I think you will be very happy with it.
@@robert4you i am EXTREMELY HAPPY. I was a bit nervous because it was the biggest car purchase i made, but it all went away the moment i drove off that lot. Such an amazing car. Contemplating adding polestar to it… thoughts?
@@Hugotoscano626 I am a proud owner of the XC40 as well. Couldn't be more delighted with it. For a long time I was somewhat sceptical towards the XC40 though, can't really explain why... it was just an odd feeling. I was more of a XC60 guy. But man, was I surprised when I drove it the first time. What a great car it is, so much fun. My girlfriend want to have it now... 🙂
All I know about Polestar is that I see more and more of them on the roads over here in Sweden and that they are expensive... But they are really nice luxurious cars.
I just ordered a XC60 T6 R-Design with 22" rims. So, the air-suspension was not an option but a necessity.
I am both a volvo and autogefühl fan... but watching at this review it looks to me its more a volvo advert rather than an unbiased review. Even the defects you mention are always sweetened.
I think the differences are mentioned quite well. For in-depth ratings of the individual cars, we refer to our single reviews: czcams.com/users/results?search_query=autogefuehl+volvo+xc
Good review: what would you choose xc90 -T6 or D5 in inscription for 2019?( Vs Q7)
Thanks! Inscription is animal seats only and too expensive imho, so i d rather go momentum and pick some options
Did I hear correctly when you referred to the introductory production years for these 3 models? My understanding is that this model XC90 was introduced in 2017, the XC60 in 2018 and the XC40 in 2019.
I have the 2018 XC60 that was one of the first to be delivered in Canada in October 2017. The 2017 XC60 was the previous design, without the “Thor-Hammer” lights.
Love them all
Hello from Sweden. I would like to say that this review is top class. An excellent presentation. I have the Volvo XC40 T3 (Osmium Grey), just like the one you drive in the test but somewhat more equipped. Absolutely love this XC40 - still very fun to drive. The fact that this little 1,5 litre engine is 150 kg lighter than the T5 with 248 HP creates a much better "balance" in the car, the weight is more centred in the T3 and thereby the entire driving experience feels more "light". Just a note regarding the cabin noise: I can see when you drive the XC40 in this test that you need to shift gears a bit faster - you linger for too long on the 2nd, 3rd and even the 4th gear. This revs up the engine too much, the rpm is too high and creates an unnecessary high cabin noise. A faster gear shifting will lower the rpm and the noise considerably.
lol, if i have to change how i drive the car to reduce cabin noise, that’s what we call a non-starter. would’ve been nice to see/hear it in the highway as well. most people spend WAY more time there than in the mountains. geez.
@@scottl6490 What do you think happens to the cabin noise when you drive in second gear and revs up the engine to 4000 rpm? Or 5000 rpm in third gear...? Have you ever used a manual gearbox? You sound quite ignorant...
The 'Cambridge' link to the 'Alpine scenery' was a bit strange, until I realised there had to be a Cambridge in South Africa. A very good review that got across the look and feel of each car and covered the significant points. Given that the XC60 is the family car, I would have liked to know how well it pulls up those hilly roads with three kids in the back and a passenger, since this is where, in central Europe, engines make it or break it, puff it or guff it. And even more so for the XC-40, given the three-cylinder engine.
Love volvo ❤️
Thanks for this beautiful and very competent review. I have owned ten Volvo’s over more than 25 years - 850, V70, XC70, XC90 T6 (2002), XC90 D5 (2004+2007), V50 2.0D (2), XC90 V8 and XC90 T6 (2017). My current XC90 has all available options. I am now selling the XC90 and seriously considering to buy an XC40 (B4 AWD R-Design). In the course of an international relocation, I do want a more compact and less imposing Volvo with lower running cost. I fear the XC60 wouldn’t be a real departure from the indulgence I have (truly) enjoyed with the XC90, other than that it has five seats rather than seven. Does that sound reasonable? Is there much to miss?
thanks for following! Sure why not, if you dont need the size, the XC40 is a nice compact fellow and doenst feel too small if u know what I mean
Brian’s English accent is very nice. A good change up from Thomas who we all love.
Interesting but it would have been slightly more helpful to compare the three cars at the same level in the range - I.E. the R Design for all 3 with the top of the range (or bottom of the range) engine and gear box. Comparing the top of the range engine and spec for the XC60 against to bottom of the range XC40 is odd. For example the key with the RDesign XC40 is leather I.E. identical to the one shown for the XC90.
when interior design takes precedence over function and safety, the product is weakened. I agree with having tactile knows for common functions
XC40 looks spicy beast, I like that! 😁
We compared Audi Q5, BMW X5, MB GLE 450 and Volvo XC60 Inscription T8 PHEV for about 1 - 2 weeks from a high end rental business. We bought the Volvo kitted out with the heated steering wheel and other goodies. The Mrs likes it so much we are trading in our Subaru and getting a 2020. But since she got to choose the options on that one, I get to chose the colour and other options on this new one. I think the colour will be the only difference and maybe cargo nets and some little things. My only disappointment is we cannot get a diesel powered model in North America. The PHEV (Plug in Hybrid) is an acceptable option.
Can always use voice commands to change temperature, seat heating etc.
My pick: 2018 XC60 T8 Inscription Plug-in Hybrid
generally within the city, do you recommend xc90 or 60 or 40 ?
in the volvo xc60 D4, no one is talking about the shoot build up ,ones intake is clogged up, very expensive.
2.2 tons, wow I never thought the XC60 was so heavy, it certainly doesn't look like.
Probably the best car in the world
I regret that the auto companies reduce features when they reduce size. For me, I would prefer XC90 trim for XC60 price in XC40 size. I took European delivery on my XC40(T5 R-Design); Yes, I am a suburban American, but I found parking, especially in some of the historic town centers, to be doable but not trivial. I can not imagine an XC90. Similarly, while I loved the Norway tourist highways like Geiranger-Trollstigen and Aurlandsfjellet, I do prefer when two-way roads have two not one lane. :-) While there were all sorts of busses, vans and campers there, it is another case where smaller felt better.
I don t think anybody is going to drive around with 1000w blasting away. Not only will you go deaf but get pulled for excessive noise. I have premium sound in my xc60 and the only time i crank the volume upto half way is when dome mates jump in, you probably go deaf going around a couple blocks.
Great sound and great cars
Fully agree, sometimes I just want to settle beating but you have to cause a pile up to do it 😂
Doug score? 🤔
Sorry, too much waffle from Brian - a really nice chap I am sure, and a great laugh, but just too much for me! Great photography though. Many thanks Autogefuhl.
I have the XC40, I am pretty happy with the vehicle. I can't complain, except for Volvo Customer service, omg. But the vehicle, is nice.
@@04poppop Every year or 15,000 km. Service here in Sweden is approx 400 Euros.
Definitely Cambridgeshire... The Porsche SatNav will report altitude as you go "downhill" from 10ft to 0ft then down to 19,999ft! 😁
Here is the US the xc40 is only available in the 2 liter 4-cylider and automatic transmission.....would love a Volvo manual!!
I think theu do it on purpose overlooking the button on the wheel called voice control which does temperature, seats, stereo etc. Once push and say what yiu want and it changes. No knobs required. Come on car reviewer what do you say?????
The XC 60 is the golden middle. Sportier look then the 90 but plenty of space and same base
Nothing beats the Volvo XC90,, still the nr.1 Volvo
That "no fatalities" sounds like a very shady PR pitch.
And you guys are not joking about that "full length", eh? An hour and 12 min, daaamn!
They try to have all the driver assists and city/ pedestrian safety to achieve what they are going for. I do admire that and for driving in comfort they are just great :)
Unfortunately i found out the gas engines all need premium fuel at a minimum. That amounts to a lot of extra money at the end of every year.
I utterly love my loaded XC40 momentum T5 awd black with red leather. Can't wait for the fully electric version!
Is it worth upgrading to Inscription from Momentum? I'm looking to change my 2016 Honda HR-V in a few months.
@@jacobthompson8507 - first off, that will be a huge and incredible upgrade from your Honda. You'll love it!
Second, not so much imo going to Inscription. It really doesn't add much more since all the options are roughly the same. The Inscription gives chrome inserts in the grill and chrome around the windows. I definitely prefer black window surrounds. The Momentum allows for different interior color options, like the amazing red I have. So, it depends on the overall inside and out appearance you want in yours as to what trim you get. My Momentum has all the options boxes checked which isn't different from all the Inscription's boxes being checked. The Inscription also has a crystal shifter and a leather wrapped key - not really worth it. I hardly touch my key but to put in my pocket in the morning and take it out when I get home. I have yet to need to hit any buttons on it for anything. The door handle does all the locking and unlocking.
The R Design was also out for me. Although I liked all the design features that are different, I know I would not have liked the seats. Though they are nice looking, the suede inserts are hot and make me sweat.
Jeff S That’s exactly the same for me. I hate these new ‘suede’ seat options on sportier trim levels, Audi, Merc, BMW and Volvo are all doing it. There should at least be an upgrade option for leather. That is the only thing that rules out the R Design for me, as I like the 2 tone roof, but Leather seats are a must, my 2010 Vauxhall Astra had them, and now my Honda has them. The leather key will only be scratched anyway, but since I’m looking at a Onyx Black on the XC40, I think I prefer the chrome. I need to see the car in person anyway, but I wouldn’t mind waiting too see what the new Lexus UX and Audi Q3 are like. Thanks for your advice anyway 👍
@@jacobthompson8507 - the UX looks pretty nice, but I think that's where it ends for that car. It's vastly under powered and a Lexus trimmed Toyota ch-r (aka cheaply built). The new Q3 however will be a great vehicle! One worth waiting for. Last I heard from my Audi dealership, it'll be here spring time. The current Q3 fell flat for me. I considered it, but too needed more power. 200hp was just too sluggish. I hope the new model will have more. The XC40's ~250hp is perfect.
Jeff S Yeah, but I feel like I should try something other than another Audi. (I’ve always had 3 cars). Basically, I have a City car (A VW Polo), average sized car (The HR-V) and a Premium car (An Audi S5). I want the next SUV to be premium. My biggest cars have ALWAYS been Audi’s, and I’ve not had another brand. I’ve currently got a S5, and I feel like I should try something different rather than adding another Audi too my long list of previous Audi’s. I’ll wait to see what the Q3 and the UX are like anyway, because the current one is way too out dated. I’ve narrowed it down to those 3: The Volvo, the Audi and the Lexus. Hopefully I’ll get a 19 plate in March if those cars are in dealers quick enough 😂.
XC40 won , is all because it is Newest Design, Newest technology & its an extraction perfect car from XC90 & XC60.
All the improvement of XC40 are taken out from both of them .....
So, the XC40 Won it & newly reborn perfect built Car from Volvo in 2020
Was that Thomas Thomas in the video Brian, or just Thomas ? Sure didn't sound like the Thomas we know and love 😂
Before Ford brought out the first Swedish SUV XC90 , Volvo were already making the cross country V70 , now the Chinese are funding the new XC90 actually looks like a proper 4x4 - the XC40 & XC60 are both very stylish - wonder when we will see parent company Geely bringing their own cars to Europe ?
Love all three models. I was deciding between an XC90 and XC60 and went with the former, partly because you cannot beat size and don't have to compromise. I can fit plenty of occupants, who all have lots of room, and lots of luggage - bags, golf clubs, dog, etc. And partly because the price of a relatively new second-hand XC90 was on par with a new XC60. The drive is very comfortable. The semi-autonomous driving on freeways helps to make the drive relaxing. The infotainment system has lots of options, but most are not designed to be changed while driving. I would make a few improvements to the usability, but overall I like it. Older Volvo models were criticised for too many buttons (usually by German car magazines), which I thought was rubbish, because if you look at Mercedes, BMW etc, they all have too many tiny buttons everywhere, and simple things like cruise control are made complex to use. I would prefer a six cylinder rather than a 4 cylinder diesel, but mainly because of the sound. The engine has plenty of power. Overall, very satisfied and would not have any other car.
That hoarse joke at the end..... haha
Uhmm...where is Thomas?
um, is it just me, or does that stmt about rear cargo space comparo w/ the 60 and 90, not make sense? i.e where you say that the 60's is better/bigger because in the 90, the third row will usually be in place/used? that does Not make sense. Please revise
Where are y’all? It looks like a hotel? Very pretty! I’m in the USA.
Nice review but I think you’ve been a little misleading/unfair on the XC40.
The XC60 and 90 are the R Design/Inscription but the 40 is the Momentum trim which is the lowest spec.
All front grills are plastic and my XC40 Inscription Pro has a leather key fob and a crystal gear knob. 😉
It absolutely lines up against the others.
Regarding changing the temperature whilst driving - why not raise or lower the temperature by using the voice control? I have a 2019 XC90 R Design and it works perfectly well meaning you don't have to take your hands off the wheel.
This is a bit unfair really, you should have compared the same trim across all 3 models. An R-Design or Inscription XC40 would not feel as "economy/cost effective" as the Momentum in this video when compared to those R-Design XC60/90. The key fob in the XC40 in the R-Design and Inscription trims is leather as well. There are also more engine options available other than the 3cyl petrol in this video. The same 8 speed auto from the bigger cars is also offered in the XC40...you failed to mention both those facts.
Well, do you know what effort it already takes to get three different new cars on one location? It's not on us to decide which trim they are. The pure availability of those vehicles in one spot is already special. The extensive facts on each car are in our separate videos: czcams.com/users/results?search_query=autogefuehl+volvo+xc
Have to agree with Ronny. Quite a few comments suggested that it was the model that was responsible for the feature rather than the trim level such as the comment that Volvo want you to know you are in their cheapest SUV. You don't just buy an XC40 because you're a peasant, you might buy it because you live in a narrow terraced street but you max out the options to make it feel luxurious
Did not see the spare tire.
Did you say the starting price for the 60 was £72k and the 90 was £68? Doesn’t seem right or am I missing something?
My guess is that the xc60 T8 hybrid starts at the higher price than the xc90 d5 diesel.
David Gorny ah I see thanks David, I thought he was referring to the range as a whole 👍🏻
Where is this filmed? It looks gorgeously alpine. 😍♥️
