When you defeat the Elder Shroob, she vows that the shroobs will be back. So either she knows something that we don't, or yeah, the shroobs are all dead.

Shroobs are the most underrated Mario villains tbh. They kinda are the most evil, they are literally parasites that consume everything and anything to survive.
Also They don't have plans for domination or ruling like Bowser most of the time. They just have plans for assimilation or genocide. The Vim and the factory. Toad Town. The Past castle. My favourite Mario and Luigi.

Today is Friday, 05/24/2024 at 2.27 A.M. I played this game when I was 8, and lost to Elder Princess Shroob. I played it again at 13, and lost to Elder Princess Shroob. Today I'm 20, and I finally won. Just now. That's for you, little me.
To me, this theme portrays your dillema perfectly. Instead of the grand, triumphant music of other final boss themes, this one gives a sense of sadness and melancholy- which fits very well. This isn't a "hero vs villain" battle. This isn't a plumber fighting a turtle-lizard to save a princess. This is a fight between two races throwing everything they have at each other, fighting for their right to survive. If you succeed, you'll save your world... But the Shroobs will be doomed to extinction. If you fail, your people will be wiped out, and the Shroobs will take over... But they'll be able to live, and start their society anew. It doesn't matter who wins. Once the dust settles, one side will cease to exist. You know that what you have to do is absolutely horrible. But you also know you HAVE to do it.

In my opinion, this theme tells you everything about the Shroobs: they're a sentient race that's done multiple bad things, trying to keep their planet alive, and are willing to do anything to do so. This is shown when Elder Princess Shroobs army of Shroobs use themselves to attack Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi. But they have no choice, cause if they don't do this, than their ENTIRE species dies. But if you fail to stop them, the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom dies as well. It's a lose-lose situation when you really think about it, cause we have no idea how the Shroobs really act. For all we know, back on their home planet, they could enjoy making art, listening/creating music, and baking, just like us.
This is actually one of many portrayals of SIN: the source of all existential evil itself at work taking form and shape for eternal domination or eternal destruction in many different ways. To allow this to continue where the shroobs have things their way especially at the expense of all in the world of the mushroom kingdom’s indigenous inhabitants and beyond would mean there would be no existential way that life on the side of good or evil will be able to continue to exist naturally any further if at all much less prosper. Mario and Luigi partnered with their infant selves, were only doing what they collectively felt was right, not for justice or vengeance or the like depending on how you see it, but for their existential survival and their eternal right to continue to exist. But still it is significantly dark in tone and storyline overall, and even sadder to have to think about it long enough. 😔
There seem to be many parallels between the Shroobs and the Nazis. They both prided themselves on coming out of economic recession, they both wanted to invade foreign land to give homes to their native populations, they both wanted the conquered inhabitants and “undesirables” gone, they both existed under totalitarian regimes, they both administered their colonies as such, and they both had extreme nationalism as core pillars of the foundations of their nations. Is this just a coincidence or was Nintendo somehow inspired?
When I was 6 year old playing this game, I didn’t even know how dark it was. I was just like “haha toads stuck in trees” and “haha funny purple shrooms with blasters talking gibberish”
In most games, your like “Oh, time to fight bowser and save peach! I only have to stomp some goombas.” But here it’s like “Even if I win, an entire species that feel and think will be doomed to extinction. The final boss will fight like a cornered animal, fighting to avenge and protect those they love.”
Keep this in mind. *Bowser has stopped a second invasion.* There's a secret boss battle in Bowser's inside story where you fight 3 Shroob mooks who are stronger than normal mooks. In that battle *You see the whole army plus Elder Princess shroob frozen in the background. All this *In Bowser's castle.* Let that sink in.
Seraphs Claws they peaked with bowsers inside story, but maybe it was just me, but every game after it felt lacklustre. Even the remakes didn’t feel that good.
Here's a thought, Elder Princess Shroob had to watch you slowly destroy her entire species while trapped in the cobalt star through the events of the game, and even the murder of her own sister, and she couldn't do anything about it.
When you beat the shroob princess you are condemning an entire alien race to extinction, which gives a pretty depressing background to the battle as all the shroob trust the princess and hope to survive, even sacrificing their lives for his princess, this is why this theme is not as funky or moved like the other ones, this is a true final battle, the winner get's to survive, the loser, will left and extinct (or be frozed thanks to BIS), even if the shroobs we're bad, capturing toads, almost killing the princess of the future, etc, they have a motivation, survive, that's why i think they're the second best villian in the franchise, they're intimidating, smart, they have valid motivations, and all this is complemented with the excelente ambience this game has, maybe they have gone too far, because well, they're the villians, but they're interesting, and i hope they will be back in a future game, even if alphadream is not with us anymore.

VlaDDrakkeN doesn’t really change the point though. If you try to invade another world no matter what you have to be ready to face the consequences if all goes wrong. And the fact they tried to kill and take over an entire kingdom just because they were desperate to survive? Wouldn’t a creature with a normal state of mind want help from the people of the world they landed on? Or just try to kill/enslave everything. Kinda self explanatory
@@swiftzeii4521 Its really not that simple. We in theory have the ability to move resources and people to planets but it requires a great deal of effort, time, and resources to do. While it is simple to think the same would be very true for something like a advanced alien species, the same still applies. Plus, it must be reminded, that for a world to be habitable without the need of suits or special living quarters, the planet must meet the standards that would suit the race best, such as a similar gravity and atmosphere. Keep in mind, the planet they went to probably fit the bill best that was within traveling distance of the limited fuel resources they had, and there is no guarantee there were other habitable worlds within reasonable reach where they don't have to worry about fuel, food, and other such necessary resources. If, of course, they were a race of locust like aliens this would make them less forgivable, but considering their planet appeared to be literally dying beneath their feet, its safe to assume this invasion was a necessary evil, coupled with jingoism to ones side, and a sense of possible superiority in tech and civilization. Pardon me if that's alot to read. history, civilizations, and what not tend to be my specialty.

I can appreciate how it’s the Mario Bros. fighting for their race to keep their world vs Elder Princess Shroob fighting for her race to keep the last hope for their survival, so it’s pretty much the champions of both races battling to gain the right for their species to live on.

I really like the Shroobs. They're not as one sided as other villains. Even someone as complex as Fawful at the end of the day, just wants to take over the kingdom. The Shroobs are evil out of necessity. If they don't initiate the conflict, they'll die

My younger self thought I wouldn’t be able to beat her with around level 35 bros, so I grinded to level 50+... the fight didn’t last that long afterward.
@@muchcreepz Yeah, she was a BIOTCH at lvl 30, might lvl up some more before challenging her a second time. Because she's a *VERY* hard boss, one of the hardest I'd fought in a long time. Just shows AlphaDream went above and beyond to show how much of a menace Princess Shroob is to the Mushroom Planet, hence why Peach tried sealing her inside the Cobalt Star and shattering it, much like how Zelda shattered the Triforce of Wisdom to keep it out of Ganon's hands in the first game.
HINT (even if it's not useful anymore): Make sure to have *_A LOT_* of Bros. Items that reach high vertical distances (eg. Trampoline, Copy/Mix Flowers and Cannonballers)
The fact that this boss is such a humongous step-up in difficulty compared to the rest of the game really showcases how important it was that the Cobalt Star was never repaired. The Shroob Princess was a true terror that should never have been battled, sealed away so that such a thing wouldn't be necessary. But here Mario and Luigi are, baby and adult, forced to take on this monstrosity to save their world.
Im sure it keeps haunting mario and luigi in their dreams. She was a beast so atrocious that even peach fainted after seeing her. Imagine watching THAT as a baby. Im sure she scares them even more than bowser or even antasma,lord of nightmares.
It was at this moment you realize. This isn’t a battle of good and evil anymore. This is a battle of survival. The heroes fall, and everything and everyone they know will DIE! Peach, the Toads, Yoshi, even Bowser... All gone...
While if you lose, yes everyone dies. But the shroobs live on. By beating the elder princess shroob you doom them too. So one species lives and one species dies. So both sides are fighting for survival.
You know, the first time I played the game, I thought the shroobs deserved death, until this battle happens... The music was so sad I immediately knew something was going terribly wrong, for both sides; Mario, Luigi and Peach are doing their best to protect the world they love, and they know that if they fail, everything will be lost, and their friends will die... But the side of the shroobs isn't less tragic, I remembered at this battle something the introduction of the game made clear; there were no stars to support the shroob planet, this means one thing: they were happy once upon a time, until their star exploded, and with that, their planet started to die slowly and painfully... Keep in mind they probably had to see everything on their planet dying painfully, and they had no more opportunities to see the sunlight, I think this is what made them crazy, psychopathic and depressed, because even scientifically speaking, if you don't see the sun for a long time, you could become crazy... That is exactly what happened to them, it's unfortunate, they only had bad luck by their side, nothing more, the despair and the rage when they saw their home dying were corrupting them to the point they are today, and even when they are evil, they still have hope in their hearts; hell, that's why they did what they did, they really were thinking they could conquer the kingdom to be finally at peace, however their corruption made them lose empathy, and this is why Mario and Luigi killed them; They were already dead from the very beginning, what the bros were fighting were nothing but corrupted genocidal parasites... But the question is... Would you be any better?... Probably and surely, no... The despair and the sadness would make you crazy, and that's tragically what happened to them...
Years after playing this game, I realized something: The younger Princess Shroob never did anything to bring her sister back. And it makes perfect sense. We never see Shroobs looking for Cobalt Star Shards. And the only time a Shroob was in possession of a Shard, it was the Elder Shrooboid. And it was just after he attacked the Blue Toad (Sorry I forgot his name), who was in possession of the Shard just before. So the Elder Shrooboid may be here only to attack Mario, and not to find the shards. And why does the younger princess never tried to bring her sister back? Because the one who reigns is the elder. Her sister was the main leader of the Shroobs, before being sealed in the Cobalt Star. So now that the Youger princess is the only leader of the Shroobs, why would she brings her sister back, just to lose her place? And, if she was trying to bring back her sister, there will also be statues of the Elder Princess, and not only a GIANT statue of the Youger Princess in the Past Peach Castle. (While the elder princess cares about her sister, because she wants to avenge her, at the end just before the final battle.)
The elder was still sane. Everyone else had lost their minds due to their dying planet and wartorn history i’d imagine... she was trying to be strong for her children and she suffered the worst fate of any Mario character. Not only was she killed by being burned to ash by a giant fireball but her soul was destroyed forever...

When I played this as a kid this boss was an absolute nightmare. Considered the Hardest boss in video games (in my opinion). I couldn’t even beat it no matter how hard I tried Now years later after replaying this game, this boss was the most fun I have ever had in a while. This game aged like a fine wine
When I was younger, I would never be able to beat the bosses because of how under-leveled I was, stupid me always just trying to not get into any battles, but now that I'm smarter, I was able to beat the second phase in only 3-4 tries! I'm just glad that we got this, this will, and forever be, my favorite rpg game

@@ericwijaya2119 In a way, Elder Princess Shroob is harder than Inner Agent 3. For IA3, it's more of a fight for turf control, using your ink wisely, and making sure you stay out of the way of their attacks. For EPS, she has a couple of heavy moves that could screw you over if you don't dodge ONE of them (e.g., the leg sweep attack) and the attack where she shoots down the UFOs could be a pain to do (not to mention the less commonly seen version where they get sucked and later spat out of a timehole). Long story short, Inner Agent 3's attacks you could manipulate and get by without them hurting you all that much. But for Elder Princess Shroob, you either dodge, counterattack, or get hit. (Also try playing the localization of the game where she has more health)
Bro they could copy the entire game and just change the graphics to upscale with new ones and make new music, they can then port it to the switch from there. ita very easy to make a remaster.

Ok, let's talk about this. Elder princess Shroob was truly an amazing fight, but i still think that the fight against Dark Bowser was even more epic.. Or even Dreamy Bowser, the bros ended up fighting a god (again...).. But between the three, only the battle with Elder princess Shroob and Dark Boswer brings some tones of epicness.. If the heroes lost against Elder primcess Shroob, their existence would have been erased for the Shroobs benefit, while against Dark Bowser it was again a matter of life and death, against the dark powers combined with Bowser's brute strength.. If he didn't have Dark Fawful as his dark star core and weakness, then he could've been unstoppable.. And he could've fulfilled his goal to bring ruin to the Mushroom Kingdom and his inhabitants.. The world itself, drown in darkness.. While Dreamy Bowser just wanted world domination. And now, here's my point: Dark Bowser's battle is the most epic one in my opinion, because it's a fight with a true god, while Dreamy Bowser is a fake god, a Bowser who hate the dust of the Dream Stone, and Elder princess Shroob is... The eldest princess of an alien race, with great powers too, but i think that both of them are nothing compared to Dark Bowser... Yes, my favourite game is Bowser's Inside Story, but Partners in Time is my second favourite, with Dream Team as third.

@@giacomociogli7631 dark bowser and elder princess shroob (can I just call her queen shroob from now on?) are probably the same levels of epic. the difference between them is that with dark bowser you feel like the events throughout the game have built up to the fight with dark bowser but with elder princess shroob you feel like evrything you have faught through has come down to the fight at hand. I gues it feels more tense because bowser is more powerful than the mario brothers and he was basically fighting himself before the second phase of the fight starts. the shroob queen looks more intimidating which adds into the effect but also the fact that you see the results of the shroobs work. they destroy everything, captured hundreds of toads, quite possibly killed people and apart from one area in the game no where is safe from the shroobs and if you loose then their visous ways will continue and they will probably mess up your planet as they did with their own. another reason why I think this fight is awesome: the music... disclaimer: I don't hate bowsers inside story... well I kind of do because it crashed every time during the tutorial and that is pretty annoying. I won't deny that the final boss is awesome
Giacomo Ciogli I don’t think you’re really giving Dreamstone Bowser enough credit. Dream Team was quite a turn-around for Bowser, as he seemed more evil, more threatening in a way. Not to mention he caught everyone off guard by betraying Antasma and taking the Dream Stone for himself. Sure it’s one thing if a battle determines the survival of a whole species, but if Dreamstone Bowser defeats the Bros, he could make all of his dreams come true (Universal domination, destruction of all political opponents, he could create a universal empire in the blink of an eye). I’ll admit, both final battles are great, and I have nothing against BiS, I just think the Dreamy Bowser fight is equally grand.

The most underrated Mario and Luigi final boss fight. This theme does something that no other game in the series does, make the final boss theme really dire and scary. A lot of lives are on the line, and it's up to you to save everyone from the Shroob menace. I love you AlphaDream so so much. You guys where master game devs and the fate that feel upon you was not deserved at all. R.I.P
The song hit me so hard in the feels, this was such a depressing song and As the Ending to show that the fight between the shroobs and the bros was a fight that truly had grave consequences. One of my favourites.
This songs sounds like the fight of two species for surviving. And it truly is, if shroobs fail they are done for, and if we fail, we will be the ones done for.
Partners in Time pulled absolutely no punches in making the story as bleak as possible. The heroes ended up winning at the end of it all, but it was *our* heroes. Princess Shroob and Elder Shroob were the heroes of the Shroob species. Their failure ensured the destruction of their kin and future. This song isn't just about *our* heroes fighting for the sake of the world, its a song of the Elder Shroob fighting *for her life and species* There really were no winners in this war. And it saddens me to no end that we're never gonna get such incredibly spine chilling stories like this again now that Alphadream is gone. I'm just hoping against hope we see a new RPG game in the future. (Also really hoping wed get a Princess Peach & Daisy RPG as an out-of-the-box sequel)
This sequal could be a good idea, but people would get mad because everyone is basically begging (me included) for a Wario & Waluigi RPG since it would really fit their comedic energy
I love how this theme isn't the most intense or most stressful. It's just sad because that reflects on what is going on. This is a battle between two species, one will die and one will live on. The shroobs aren't good villains because they are the most powerful or the evilest. It's because they have a great motive and it is to survive so their species doesn't die out.
Out of any final boss I've ever fought in the M&L series, this one hit me the hardest. I had no more of my strongest attack items, was very low on healing items, and both the adult Mario Bros died. Was playing this on Wii U and I stopped, feeling defeated. I stood on that screen and did nothing. No other M&L games ever impacted me as hard as this one. It deserves a remake.
I had a similar experience the first time i thought the elder shroob. I couldn't figure out how to defeat her and for some reason noticed the crown to late. I already used all my strongest items, but I kept going till all my super one ups, one ups and mushrooms were out and it lasted like more than two hours. It felt surreal to keep going till the very end
This boss battle has stayed with me forever even after more than decade since I played this game. No other boss battle from any game has managed so leave that impact on me and I played Kratos vs Zeus, Liquid vs Snake, Rafe vs Nathan Drake, Bowser vs Dark Bowser, etc. But this one is the one that I will always remember clearly. The impact this battle left on me is insane, I'm still shocked by Elder Princess Shroob final form
people look down on this game, but i liked the Shroobs & their uniqueness as villains, where their reason for being evil is its necessary and the only way they can survive. not to mention this battle and the kill all or be killed mentality of the Elder Shroob & her soldiers.

Peach is unconscious, supplies are most likely running low, your foe has changed into a new, twisted form. The music changes from the more fast paced theme that was for the previous princess. Now the drums come in and bring out the despair. If you mess up now, the planet you came to love so much will be taken away and be doomed to fall.
Imagine this glorious work of Yoko Shimomura done with her actual orchestra instead of needing to be compressed like this. Alas we will never see this come to pass.
I never played this game, but i noticed how hard this boss fight was to most of the people who fought elder princess shroob final form, but only a few was able to dodge most of the attacks, or even all. The game itself has an awesome lore, goofy cutscenes, awesome boss fights, great villans, holy, yall had alot of fun with this game right???
I had a theory that They were going to make a sequel to partners in time with the shroobs coming back since they started coming back in Bowser's inside story and Bowser Jr's journey
I wish we got another mario and Luigi game like this. Every game after this was good but it never felt the same. PIT had a whole new race that invaded and was taking over the mushroom kingdom and it felt disturbing and awesome. It made it feel like it was the end of the world. Later games such as Bis and DT only had a villain which used bowers enemies and a few new enemies to stop mario and Luigi. The plots never felt dark. It feels like they dimmed down the creativity after partners in time and that’s quite sad. I’m hoping we see another mario and Luigi game and I hope it comes to the switch. I hope we see a dark plot like partners in time where we see a completely new species and it feels like the end of the world.
The Shroobs are the very definition of "we could have been friends". It's sad to see them getting wiped out like this, but they made their choice long ago. The atrocities they committed led to their downfall. Because those who seek destruction, will find it.
It’s honestly a really sad story because even with their atrocities, their reasoning is fully understandable and really we don’t know what their life back home is like, they may not even be super dissimilar from the mushroom kingdom on their home planet, and they became wiped out because they made the wrong choice in desperation for survival
You know if you remove the DS’s compression, this song would probably sound like something straight out of Kingdom Hearts II. Chock that up to both series having the same phenomenal composer.
This is probably the only boss theme I've ever actually heard that really nails the feeling of "end of the world". The only final boss theme that didn't have me vibing, but actually terrified as a child.
this is bull we get a remake of super star saga then they skip this and remake bowsers' inside story and now the company that makes these games are going bankrupt and we wont ever get a remake of this? The reason because they didn't do a remake of this game is simply: the remakes have the "bowser minions saga". In this game, the main actions is in the past, when bowser was only a child. So, for this reason they couldn't put in the game another chapter of bowser minions' saga and they decide to skip this game. A remake without a chapter of Bowser minions saga is like the original games with a new graphic
Mannn oh man. I remember trying to fight this final boss back when i was in 5th grade and i lost after like 20 minutes of fighting it. I was so mad i put the game away and never came back. I never even knew how this game ended cause i never wanted to look it up. This song use to be the bane of my existence. Until today on August 21st, 2022. After taking that loss, Elder Princess Shroob had no idea i would come back almost 11 years later to fight her for another 30 minutes and finally take her down. It felt so good to win after all that time. I’m sure my 5th grade self is in pure joy knowing i’d come back for round 2 and beat my childhood nightmare ⭐️

I had a similar experience. Got stomped by elder princess shroob (and her younger sister), stopped playing. Randomly came back to listen to princess shroob's theme and decided to try and fight. Finally got to see the light of shrowser.
If Alphadream didn't go bankrupt maybe we could've seen a new M&L game on the switch dedicated to the Shroobs. Especially with all the foreshadowing in BIS DX. Part of me actually thinks there were plans for a new game but couldn't deliver due to the bankruptcy.

Controversial Opinion: This song is better than In The Final. Why? Well, notice how the song sounds both desperate and sad at the same type. It truly represents both sides. The Mario Brothers and their baby counterparts are desperate to keep everything they know near and dear and can only think of what tragedies would occur should the Shroobs win. Meanwhile, on the Shroob side of things, they're desperate to find a new home and do not want to face the grim and sad reality of extinction. It truly captures the spirit of this song, representing two sides locked in a final clash to determine who lives and who dies. The mushroom munchers vs an alien race searching for a new home.
@DropkicktheDecepticon I must agree, gameplay wise DB is just 100x better, but god damn EPS hits way more hard than DB and that's a fact, i loved both PiT and BiS, they are amazing, but as for now nothing can bring the chills that EPS gave me.
Will never forget this theme and game. I still remember being so hyped being 8 or 9 yrs old and beating shroom princess after like 15 attempts. And after hundreds of attempts I finally beat the sister. Or so I thought. When the final phase appeared, I was so shocked that I couldn't dodge her attacks. I tried time and time again but I couldn't beat her. Wasn't until a few months me and my family went to a cookout at my church. And I tried again where at last she fell in my hands. Man, imagine getting a remake of this game. The only thing I could see that they could "ruin" is nerfing the length of Copy Flowers and Trampolines, and weakening the power of Mix Flowers. Besides that (and the badge that increases your power if you have less Mushrooms in your inventory, Risk Badge I think it's called), I feel like you can't really change much about this game. Probably could even add some quality of life functions in the game. ...Shame that Alphadream won't be around to make it.

this is how I felt when I defeated Dark Bowser and Dark Star X
To me, this theme portrays your dillema perfectly. Instead of the grand, triumphant music of other final boss themes, this one gives a sense of sadness and melancholy- which fits very well. This isn't a "hero vs villain" battle. This isn't a plumber fighting a turtle-lizard to save a princess. This is a fight between two races throwing everything they have at each other, fighting for their right to survive. If you succeed, you'll save your world... But the Shroobs will be doomed to extinction. If you fail, your people will be wiped out, and the Shroobs will take over... But they'll be able to live, and start their society anew. It doesn't matter who wins. Once the dust settles, one side will cease to exist. You know that what you have to do is absolutely horrible. But you also know you HAVE to do it.

In my opinion, this theme tells you everything about the Shroobs: they're a sentient race that's done multiple bad things, trying to keep their planet alive, and are willing to do anything to do so. This is shown when Elder Princess Shroobs army of Shroobs use themselves to attack Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi. But they have no choice, cause if they don't do this, than their ENTIRE species dies. But if you fail to stop them, the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom dies as well. It's a lose-lose situation when you really think about it, cause we have no idea how the Shroobs really act. For all we know, back on their home planet, they could enjoy making art, listening/creating music, and baking, just like us.
It's an accurate portrayal of real life.
This is actually one of many portrayals of SIN: the source of all existential evil itself at work taking form and shape for eternal domination or eternal destruction in many different ways.
To allow this to continue where the shroobs have things their way especially at the expense of all in the world of the mushroom kingdom’s indigenous inhabitants and beyond would mean there would be no existential way that life on the side of good or evil will be able to continue to exist naturally any further if at all much less prosper.
Mario and Luigi partnered with their infant selves, were only doing what they collectively felt was right, not for justice or vengeance or the like depending on how you see it, but for their existential survival and their eternal right to continue to exist.
But still it is significantly dark in tone and storyline overall, and even sadder to have to think about it long enough. 😔
There seem to be many parallels between the Shroobs and the Nazis. They both prided themselves on coming out of economic recession, they both wanted to invade foreign land to give homes to their native populations, they both wanted the conquered inhabitants and “undesirables” gone, they both existed under totalitarian regimes, they both administered their colonies as such, and they both had extreme nationalism as core pillars of the foundations of their nations.

When you beat the shroob princess you are condemning an entire alien race to extinction, which gives a pretty depressing background to the battle as all the shroob trust the princess and hope to survive, even sacrificing their lives for his princess, this is why this theme is not as funky or moved like the other ones, this is a true final battle, the winner get's to survive, the loser, will left and extinct (or be frozed thanks to BIS), even if the shroobs we're bad, capturing toads, almost killing the princess of the future, etc, they have a motivation, survive, that's why i think they're the second best villian in the franchise, they're intimidating, smart, they have valid motivations, and all this is complemented with the excelente ambience this game has, maybe they have gone too far, because well, they're the villians, but they're interesting, and i hope they will be back in a future game, even if alphadream is not with us anymore.

Its really not that simple. We in theory have the ability to move resources and people to planets but it requires a great deal of effort, time, and resources to do. While it is simple to think the same would be very true for something like a advanced alien species, the same still applies. Plus, it must be reminded, that for a world to be habitable without the need of suits or special living quarters, the planet must meet the standards that would suit the race best, such as a similar gravity and atmosphere.
Keep in mind, the planet they went to probably fit the bill best that was within traveling distance of the limited fuel resources they had, and there is no guarantee there were other habitable worlds within reasonable reach where they don't have to worry about fuel, food, and other such necessary resources. If, of course, they were a race of locust like aliens this would make them less forgivable, but considering their planet appeared to be literally dying beneath their feet, its safe to assume this invasion was a necessary evil, coupled with jingoism to ones side, and a sense of possible superiority in tech and civilization.
Pardon me if that's alot to read. history, civilizations, and what not tend to be my specialty.

I can appreciate how it’s the Mario Bros. fighting for their race to keep their world vs Elder Princess Shroob fighting for her race to keep the last hope for their survival, so it’s pretty much the champions of both races battling to gain the right for their species to live on.
In Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story all of the Shroob family is found in ice that will forever be frozen untila switch is hit. Now the the bros hit the switch, the Shroobs are out there

My younger self thought I wouldn’t be able to beat her with around level 35 bros, so I grinded to level 50+... the fight didn’t last that long afterward.
@@muchcreepz Yeah, she was a BIOTCH at lvl 30, might lvl up some more before challenging her a second time. Because she's a *VERY* hard boss, one of the hardest I'd fought in a long time. Just shows AlphaDream went above and beyond to show how much of a menace Princess Shroob is to the Mushroom Planet, hence why Peach tried sealing her inside the Cobalt Star and shattering it, much like how Zelda shattered the Triforce of Wisdom to keep it out of Ganon's hands in the first game.

HINT (even if it's not useful anymore): Make sure to have *_A LOT_* of Bros. Items that reach high vertical distances (eg. Trampoline, Copy/Mix Flowers and Cannonballers)
The fact that this boss is such a humongous step-up in difficulty compared to the rest of the game really showcases how important it was that the Cobalt Star was never repaired.
The Shroob Princess was a true terror that should never have been battled, sealed away so that such a thing wouldn't be necessary.
But here Mario and Luigi are, baby and adult, forced to take on this monstrosity to save their world.
Im sure it keeps haunting mario and luigi in their dreams.
She was a beast so atrocious that even peach fainted after seeing her.

It was at this moment you realize. This isn’t a battle of good and evil anymore. This is a battle of survival. The heroes fall, and everything and everyone they know will DIE! Peach, the Toads, Yoshi, even Bowser... All gone...
While if you lose, yes everyone dies. But the shroobs live on. By beating the elder princess shroob you doom them too. So one species lives and one species dies. So both sides are fighting for survival.

You know, the first time I played the game, I thought the shroobs deserved death, until this battle happens...
The music was so sad I immediately knew something was going terribly wrong, for both sides; Mario, Luigi and Peach are doing their best to protect the world they love, and they know that if they fail, everything will be lost, and their friends will die...
But the side of the shroobs isn't less tragic, I remembered at this battle something the introduction of the game made clear; there were no stars to support the shroob planet, this means one thing: they were happy once upon a time, until their star exploded, and with that, their planet started to die slowly and painfully...
Keep in mind they probably had to see everything on their planet dying painfully, and they had no more opportunities to see the sunlight, I think this is what made them crazy, psychopathic and depressed, because even scientifically speaking, if you don't see the sun for a long time, you could become crazy...
That is exactly what happened to them, it's unfortunate, they only had bad luck by their side, nothing more, the despair and the rage when they saw their home dying were corrupting them to the point they are today, and even when they are evil, they still have hope in their hearts; hell, that's why they did what they did, they really were thinking they could conquer the kingdom to be finally at peace, however their corruption made them lose empathy, and this is why Mario and Luigi killed them; They were already dead from the very beginning, what the bros were fighting were nothing but corrupted genocidal parasites...
But the question is... Would you be any better?... Probably and surely, no... The despair and the sadness would make you crazy, and that's tragically what happened to them...
Years after playing this game, I realized something:
The younger Princess Shroob never did anything to bring her sister back. And it makes perfect sense.
We never see Shroobs looking for Cobalt Star Shards.
And the only time a Shroob was in possession of a Shard, it was the Elder Shrooboid. And it was just after he attacked the Blue Toad (Sorry I forgot his name), who was in possession of the Shard just before.
So the Elder Shrooboid may be here only to attack Mario, and not to find the shards.
And why does the younger princess never tried to bring her sister back?
Because the one who reigns is the elder.
Her sister was the main leader of the Shroobs, before being sealed in the Cobalt Star.
So now that the Youger princess is the only leader of the Shroobs, why would she brings her sister back, just to lose her place?
And, if she was trying to bring back her sister, there will also be statues of the Elder Princess, and not only a GIANT statue of the Youger Princess in the Past Peach Castle.
(While the elder princess cares about her sister, because she wants to avenge her, at the end just before the final battle.)

The elder was still sane. Everyone else had lost their minds due to their dying planet and wartorn history i’d imagine... she was trying to be strong for her children and she suffered the worst fate of any Mario character. Not only was she killed by being burned to ash by a giant fireball but her soul was destroyed forever...

When I played this as a kid this boss was an absolute nightmare. Considered the Hardest boss in video games (in my opinion). I couldn’t even beat it no matter how hard I tried
Now years later after replaying this game, this boss was the most fun I have ever had in a while. This game aged like a fine wine
When I was younger, I would never be able to beat the bosses because of how under-leveled I was, stupid me always just trying to not get into any battles, but now that I'm smarter, I was able to beat the second phase in only 3-4 tries! I'm just glad that we got this, this will, and forever be, my favorite rpg game

Just be glad you didnt fight Inner Agent 3. He/she (depends) is more than enough to let your blood boil to steam faster than Elder Princess Shroob.
@@ericwijaya2119 In a way, Elder Princess Shroob is harder than Inner Agent 3. For IA3, it's more of a fight for turf control, using your ink wisely, and making sure you stay out of the way of their attacks. For EPS, she has a couple of heavy moves that could screw you over if you don't dodge ONE of them (e.g., the leg sweep attack) and the attack where she shoots down the UFOs could be a pain to do (not to mention the less commonly seen version where they get sucked and later spat out of a timehole).
Long story short, Inner Agent 3's attacks you could manipulate and get by without them hurting you all that much. But for Elder Princess Shroob, you either dodge, counterattack, or get hit.
(Also try playing the localization of the game where she has more health)

Ok, let's talk about this.
Elder princess Shroob was truly an amazing fight, but i still think that the fight against Dark Bowser was even more epic.. Or even Dreamy Bowser, the bros ended up fighting a god (again...).. But between the three, only the battle with Elder princess Shroob and Dark Boswer brings some tones of epicness.. If the heroes lost against Elder primcess Shroob, their existence would have been erased for the Shroobs benefit, while against Dark Bowser it was again a matter of life and death, against the dark powers combined with Bowser's brute strength.. If he didn't have Dark Fawful as his dark star core and weakness, then he could've been unstoppable.. And he could've fulfilled his goal to bring ruin to the Mushroom Kingdom and his inhabitants.. The world itself, drown in darkness..
While Dreamy Bowser just wanted world domination.
And now, here's my point:
Dark Bowser's battle is the most epic one in my opinion, because it's a fight with a true god, while Dreamy Bowser is a fake god, a Bowser who hate the dust of the Dream Stone, and Elder princess Shroob is... The eldest princess of an alien race, with great powers too, but i think that both of them are nothing compared to Dark Bowser...
Yes, my favourite game is Bowser's Inside Story, but Partners in Time is my second favourite, with Dream Team as third.

@@giacomociogli7631 dark bowser and elder princess shroob (can I just call her queen shroob from now on?) are probably the same levels of epic. the difference between them is that with dark bowser you feel like the events throughout the game have built up to the fight with dark bowser but with elder princess shroob you feel like evrything you have faught through has come down to the fight at hand. I gues it feels more tense because bowser is more powerful than the mario brothers and he was basically fighting himself before the second phase of the fight starts. the shroob queen looks more intimidating which adds into the effect but also the fact that you see the results of the shroobs work. they destroy everything, captured hundreds of toads, quite possibly killed people and apart from one area in the game no where is safe from the shroobs and if you loose then their visous ways will continue and they will probably mess up your planet as they did with their own. another reason why I think this fight is awesome: the music...
disclaimer: I don't hate bowsers inside story... well I kind of do because it crashed every time during the tutorial and that is pretty annoying. I won't deny that the final boss is awesome

I don’t think you’re really giving Dreamstone Bowser enough credit. Dream Team was quite a turn-around for Bowser, as he seemed more evil, more threatening in a way. Not to mention he caught everyone off guard by betraying Antasma and taking the Dream Stone for himself. Sure it’s one thing if a battle determines the survival of a whole species, but if Dreamstone Bowser defeats the Bros, he could make all of his dreams come true (Universal domination, destruction of all political opponents, he could create a universal empire in the blink of an eye).
I’ll admit, both final battles are great, and I have nothing against BiS, I just think the Dreamy Bowser fight is equally grand.

I AM NO PUSHOVER!!!" #respect . my main problem with it though is the fact that doing that made the cooler villan look like a total joke compared to someone who has become a total joke. also he fu*king dies after that! IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK THAT HE COULD HAVE HAD A "we will meet again!" MOMENT AND THEN HE WOULD RETURN IN ANOTHER GAME???
The most underrated Mario and Luigi final boss fight. This theme does something that no other game in the series does, make the final boss theme really dire and scary. A lot of lives are on the line, and it's up to you to save everyone from the Shroob menace.
I love you AlphaDream so so much. You guys where master game devs and the fate that feel upon you was not deserved at all. R.I.P

The song hit me so hard in the feels, this was such a depressing song and As the Ending to show that the fight between the shroobs and the bros was a fight that truly had grave consequences. One of my favourites.
This songs sounds like the fight of two species for surviving. And it truly is, if shroobs fail they are done for, and if we fail, we will be the ones done for.
Partners in Time pulled absolutely no punches in making the story as bleak as possible.
The heroes ended up winning at the end of it all, but it was *our* heroes.
Princess Shroob and Elder Shroob were the heroes of the Shroob species.
Their failure ensured the destruction of their kin and future.
This song isn't just about *our* heroes fighting for the sake of the world, its a song of the Elder Shroob fighting *for her life and species*
There really were no winners in this war.
And it saddens me to no end that we're never gonna get such incredibly spine chilling stories like this again now that Alphadream is gone.
I'm just hoping against hope we see a new RPG game in the future.

I love how this theme isn't the most intense or most stressful. It's just sad because that reflects on what is going on. This is a battle between two species, one will die and one will live on.
The shroobs aren't good villains because they are the most powerful or the evilest. It's because they have a great motive and it is to survive so their species doesn't die out.

Out of any final boss I've ever fought in the M&L series, this one hit me the hardest.
I had no more of my strongest attack items, was very low on healing items, and both the adult Mario Bros died.
Was playing this on Wii U and I stopped, feeling defeated. I stood on that screen and did nothing.
No other M&L games ever impacted me as hard as this one. It deserves a remake.
I had a similar experience the first time i thought the elder shroob. I couldn't figure out how to defeat her and for some reason noticed the crown to late. I already used all my strongest items, but I kept going till all my super one ups, one ups and mushrooms were out and it lasted like more than two hours. It felt surreal to keep going till the very end
There's such an amazing sense of finality to this theme. Not just for the game, but for the entire Shroob race. Miss this game.
This boss battle has stayed with me forever even after more than decade since I played this game. No other boss battle from any game has managed so leave that impact on me and I played Kratos vs Zeus, Liquid vs Snake, Rafe vs Nathan Drake, Bowser vs Dark Bowser, etc. But this one is the one that I will always remember clearly. The impact this battle left on me is insane, I'm still shocked by Elder Princess Shroob final form
people look down on this game, but i liked the Shroobs & their uniqueness as villains, where their reason for being evil is its necessary and the only way they can survive. not to mention this battle and the kill all or be killed mentality of the Elder Shroob & her soldiers.

Peach is unconscious, supplies are most likely running low, your foe has changed into a new, twisted form. The music changes from the more fast paced theme that was for the previous princess. Now the drums come in and bring out the despair. If you mess up now, the planet you came to love so much will be taken away and be doomed to fall.

I never played this game, but i noticed how hard this boss fight was to most of the people who fought elder princess shroob final form, but only a few was able to dodge most of the attacks, or even all.
The game itself has an awesome lore, goofy cutscenes, awesome boss fights, great villans, holy, yall had alot of fun with this game right???

I wish we got another mario and Luigi game like this. Every game after this was good but it never felt the same.
PIT had a whole new race that invaded and was taking over the mushroom kingdom and it felt disturbing and awesome. It made it feel like it was the end of the world.
Later games such as Bis and DT only had a villain which used bowers enemies and a few new enemies to stop mario and Luigi. The plots never felt dark. It feels like they dimmed down the creativity after partners in time and that’s quite sad.
I’m hoping we see another mario and Luigi game and I hope it comes to the switch. I hope we see a dark plot like partners in time where we see a completely new species and it feels like the end of the world.
That probably happened because Nintendo made them stop making as many original characters
The Shroobs are the very definition of "we could have been friends". It's sad to see them getting wiped out like this, but they made their choice long ago. The atrocities they committed led to their downfall. Because those who seek destruction, will find it.
It’s honestly a really sad story because even with their atrocities, their reasoning is fully understandable and really we don’t know what their life back home is like, they may not even be super dissimilar from the mushroom kingdom on their home planet, and they became wiped out because they made the wrong choice in desperation for survival
You know if you remove the DS’s compression, this song would probably sound like something straight out of Kingdom Hearts II. Chock that up to both series having the same phenomenal composer.

This is probably the only boss theme I've ever actually heard that really nails the feeling of "end of the world". The only final boss theme that didn't have me vibing, but actually terrified as a child.

Mannn oh man. I remember trying to fight this final boss back when i was in 5th grade and i lost after like 20 minutes of fighting it. I was so mad i put the game away and never came back. I never even knew how this game ended cause i never wanted to look it up. This song use to be the bane of my existence. Until today on August 21st, 2022. After taking that loss, Elder Princess Shroob had no idea i would come back almost 11 years later to fight her for another 30 minutes and finally take her down. It felt so good to win after all that time. I’m sure my 5th grade self is in pure joy knowing i’d come back for round 2 and beat my childhood nightmare ⭐️

Randomly came back to listen to princess shroob's theme and decided to try and fight.

Controversial Opinion: This song is better than In The Final.

Well, notice how the song sounds both desperate and sad at the same type.
It truly represents both sides.
The Mario Brothers and their baby counterparts are desperate to keep everything they know near and dear and can only think of what tragedies would occur should the Shroobs win.
Meanwhile, on the Shroob side of things, they're desperate to find a new home and do not want to face the grim and sad reality of extinction.
It truly captures the spirit of this song, representing two sides locked in a final clash to determine who lives and who dies. The mushroom munchers vs an alien race searching for a new home.

@DropkicktheDecepticon I must agree, gameplay wise DB is just 100x better, but god damn EPS hits way more hard than DB and that's a fact, i loved both PiT and BiS, they are amazing, but as for now nothing can bring the chills that EPS gave me.
Will never forget this theme and game. I still remember being so hyped being 8 or 9 yrs old and beating shroom princess after like 15 attempts. And after hundreds of attempts I finally beat the sister. Or so I thought. When the final phase appeared, I was so shocked that I couldn't dodge her attacks. I tried time and time again but I couldn't beat her. Wasn't until a few months me and my family went to a cookout at my church. And I tried again where at last she fell in my hands. Will forever be in my top 3 greatest achievements.

Man, imagine getting a remake of this game. The only thing I could see that they could "ruin" is nerfing the length of Copy Flowers and Trampolines, and weakening the power of Mix Flowers. Besides that (and the badge that increases your power if you have less Mushrooms in your inventory, Risk Badge I think it's called), I feel like you can't really change much about this game. Probably could even add some quality of life functions in the game.
...Shame that Alphadream won't be around to make it.
One thing they should change: Don't make the Special Attacks items. Make them how they were in Bowser's Inside Story.
To me this song has so much meaning and emotion.

I would describe most other fights in the Mario series as just that, fights and battles. This is the only one I consider a war.
