I don't see anyone talking about the meaning of this song, so I'm going to share my theory:
The land of the lost and lonely is the world this kid creates in his mind and he's talking to another kid who's bullied and broken like him but he's trying to convice him to suicide with him/like he will do.
When he says "Come home" he means that he (the other kid) "belongs" to suicing, like if they're trying to escape the world by killing themselves.
Dunno, just my theory.

For some reason this song makes be happy and joyous of life
I remember for more than the first half of the school year, I used to listen to this because I had no one, I mean ACTUALLY no one to talk to. My only friend from the year before stopped talking to me when the school year started (i don't know why, Im sure I didn't say anything offensive) so I was always writing/drawing on a bench alone when it was break time and when the teacher called on me during class, I didn't have the strength to speak out loud. It was only until a couple months back when I truly had social interactions in school.
Now I have a group of 4 other outcasts including me and I try my best to maintain us together. I'm so appreciative of them that they picked me out of the 100+ other people in the same grade.
To all the other people here, I wish you luck in finding your own kind. Look for a new student and be brave and talk to them, give them the impression that you can be a good friend. That was how my relationships started rapidly growing.

Every single time I listen to this song it gives me goosebumps. I have been a bit of an outcast in my 16 years of life but this song helps bring a bit of comfort to just know that despite not knowing it, none of us are alone here, all of us "freaks" are everywhere!

Long emotional reason I love this song incoming:
For all my life I've been different. In school I was bullied for the lack of social skills I never picked up because I was emotionally neglected at home. Elementary to highschool I never fit in anywhere. I tried to change myself to be like the few friends I did have, but it still never felt quite right.
Jump to now.
I'm 19, a year ago I graduated highschool. I lost all the "friends" who accepted some weird parts of me, but not all of me.
I tried internet communities, but none of them ever stuck.
Until a rag-tag group of kids saw me who I really was, and decided to give me a shot.
They all live in California. (For context I live in Texas) Three of them know eachother irl, and one has known one online for 5+ years.
Despite that, they let me in. They embrace everything that makes me, well, me.
They encourage me to keep drawing, they embrace the fact I'm bi and trans wholeheartedly, they indulge in my adhd ramblings and support me when I'm having bad mental days. They have accepted me as a person unlike anyone else in my life before. And I extend that support and love right back out to them, and I know some of them needed that more than others.
I never knew what family was before I met them. Younger me would have never imagined that there are people just like us.
To all the freaks who feel alone right now, know you will find your tribe someday. Just keep fighting, keep living, and more importantly keep being yourself.
