- We’ve had Willy Wonka in previous iterations of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory movies before with both Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp but now Timothée Chalamet is taking up the mantle and playing a young version of the iconic Roald Dahl character. Also featuring a stellar cast including Olivia Colman (Secret Invasion, The Crown, The Favourite), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), Keegan-Michael Key (The Super Mario Bros Movie) and Hugh Grant (Dungeons and Dragons) as an Oompa-Loompa! Can’t wait for this movie in December!

The Gene Wilder version strays from the book quite a lot. Great movie, but the Depp version is more faithful to the source material.

I am 100% with Achara!!! This trailer absolutely lifted my inner 10 year old spirit to heights I haven’t felt in a very long time. And Timothée Chalamet is very quickly becoming one of my all time favorite actors. His range from going to Dune to Wonka and back to Dune, it’s unreal!

The original movie was one of my all time favorites and the remake with Johnny Depp was pretty good too. This looks like it'll be somewhere in between those two in terms of quality, and I can't wait for it.

I never read the book but I grew up watching the Gene Wilder movie since the 70s and I got a little emotional watching this trailer too. It somehow feels as magical as the first film did for me all my life, and still looks like it's own thing. I cannot wait.
Achara is the first reactor to clue into the music that I have seen. I love that so much!
Willy Wonka as a character was always so mysterious to me. I loved his seemingly cheerful nature with a hint of bluntness behind it. Yet in many parody’s and medias, it was always hilarious to find him in jokes as the ‘ monster’ or ringleader of bad things.
But seeing this just took me back to not only the 70s, but the 2005 one! The Shot of him taking the Cacao fruit instantly took me back to the stories he would tell the contestants in the more modern remake. The colours of his coat, even the slight hints of fantasy and magical look of the Tim Burton one!
Hope this one will turn out well!

You were not alone Ms. Achara Kirk! At first I was extremely skeptical of this as I thought it was another remake but once I read up on it a bit and saw this trailer I absolutely Loved it. Whilst watching the trailer I most definitely became a bit emotional for sure.
The Gene Wilder version TERRIFIED me as a child. It was so creepy! 😂. However, it has grown on me as an adult. This movie looks beautiful and perfect for Christmas.

The jonny depp version was golden for me as a kid, playing the games that were on the disc doubled the fun
You know, sometimes I feel there's a lot of cynicism in the movie business. But you see things like this and there's a certain warmth here that draws you in. I LOVE those Paddington movies and getting the director of those for something like this was an A+ move.
I know there's going to be some pessimism for some audiences at the sentimental aspects. But I think there's always room for wholesome media in mainstream pop culture. Extraordinary Attorney Woo and its monster success last summer being the prime example.
This feels like Harry Potter meets Enchanted and I am here for it.
This to me has a mix of Gene’s version of the character ( and tones from that film) and the wild, imaginative imagery the Tim Burton version created. I think I’ll put this higher on my list of movies to see.
seems tim will do more dancing than singing. gene wilder had a surprisingly good singing voice and depp let the oompas do all the musical numbers.
@@vinsanity40k yeah it looks that way. I mean Johnny CAN sing, I just don’t think his voice was necessarily made (or needed) for that version. Plus I think I recall him saying at some point he’s not too big on doing the dancing. I loved Gene’s voice for his though, that movie is just a piece of core memory.
I look forward to seeing how Timothée’s version is, because based on this it looks very fun.

I am so, so excited about this movie. My favorite version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, though, is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the stage musical that is.) And my favorite Willy Wonka is Douglas Hodge. To me, he is the best one. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. I don’t care what anyone says about it. I am not changing my mind. I never have and never will.

This is everything I expected it to be. The story was fantastic. The characters are fantastic and the little Easter eggs from the og are FANFICKING TASTIC.......they did it right by teasing you not once but twice with the beginning of pure imagination.....and finally at the end is the culmination of infact .....pure imagination

This is basicslly prequel to Willy Wonka in the sense that Hook was a sequel to Peter Pan.

Was skeptical about this one when I heard it announced. Still a little cautious -- I've seen plenty of great trailers for less than great movies, but your reactions were perfect. I truly hope this is as magical as the trailer makes it look.
Looks interesting, though am a little disappointed we'll never get a Great Glass Elevator film. That book was crazy with Wonka fighting aliens, visiting purgatory and inventing the cure for death.
Oh, I dunno. If this does well, I could see them doing another adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then doing Great Glass Elevator to make this a trilogy. It definitely does feel like they're wanting to create a franchise out of this, which I would be absolutely thrilled with.

Achara, you have to read all of Dahl's work, I had to read Switch Bitch for a college course. No kid fantasy there, very adult. Plus, CinePals should review the other Roald Dahl movie, the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice (1967)!

As a child Charlie and the Chocolate Factory /Great Glass Elevator were my favourite books, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie I adored!!
The Tim Burton remake was an ugly, dirty noisy mess… Went in with an open mind and it was something I intensely disliked!

Have seen the movie Sound of Freedom?
i have never watched the gene wilder version simply because it was before my time. the tim burton one is very....tim burton to put it simply but i do feel it is quite close to what the book was. its a surprise to me that many people in the comments here and on reel rejects have been expressing their dislike for it.
about this trailer tho, im not fully sold on timothee as wonka. cause while he does have that sense of wonder and drive for adventure, knack for invention etc, he just doesnt seem as eccentic as i remember wonka to be from the book. i said this on reel rejects's channel too, but timothee here is giving more of a grown up charlie running the factory vibes to me. the oompa loompa tho i am totally here for!! the tim burton one was kind of a hit or mis for me throughout the movie. anyways, as jaby would say, im cautiously optimistic for this. definitely excited for the possible candy lore and backstory tho!!!!
