Andy, I am a 79 year old golfer, playing since 15. I have just switched to the Cleveland Launcher XL irons because of your you tube review. They are a real solution to my ever slowing swing speed and physical condition. I feel competitive again with a set of irons that I have faith in their doing what I want. Thanks, your reviews are trusted by this senior golfer.

I have the Cleveland HB Turbo Irons 5 threw to PW in a Senior shaft and I love them also invested in the Smartsole Gap plus SW and Chipper to make up the set

I have the same irons and wedges plus the Cleveland Hy-wood. Why make golf harder than it is?

Thanks in part to your video I bought an XL Halo 4i because I haven't played regularly in 25 years and after deciding to get back out there I was struggling with my old irons, especially the long ones. What I noticed immediately about the Halo was that the bad shots weren't as bad. You are still rewarded with the good shot, just not as punished for the off center one. What I like about this is that it allows me to keep going for it to get my swing back. Otherwise what I have a tendency to do is something that I know isn't going to help long term but gets me decent shots in the moment. A short term bandaid but not a long term improvement fix. For example instead of hitting the iron I should, I hit a shorter iron and lay up because I'm scared to pull the longer iron out. Anyway I think you're spot on here and I plan to buy a full set of Launcher Halos and as I get more comfortable replace from the short irons up to exactly what you're describing. I will probably never play enough to worry about shaping/spinning shots over 170yds so why not have these clubs that help keep everything straight for the long shots? I was shocked at how much better my worse shots were and knowing that you're less likely to screw up too bad gives me the confidence to work on my game instead of taking bandaids just to get through the round. BTW - the technology and information available today is almost overwhelming compared to the late 90's when I played often. It's a different game.

I followed your advice and feel good about it. I purchased a set of Launcher XL 5 - gap wedge, then added a Halo 4 iron which I found to be fantastic. I then bought the Halo 5 iron as well and added a Halo sand wedge as this is the hardest club for me to hit. Haven’t had a chance to use these much due to winter approaching but am very excited about next year! Thanks!

Thanks Andy - great review. I'm seriously considering the Cleveland HL irons -- 12 handicap but just turned 68 and find myself losing distance with traditional lofts. Currently play the New Level MODB-1s which I've really enjoyed for 3 years. Play Cleveland CBX wedges (48 degree Gap Wedge and 56 Full Face SW). Also looking at the Cobra Forged Tec X irons...but a little worried about the runout and holding the green. Thanks again...love your content.

Thanks. Another great video. What could be interesting is a new player buying a set of the hybrid irons for the first season or so when maximum forgiveness is probably key and then perhaps replacement of 7 and above in your second year (Cleveland Halo irons are always in demand), with a more integrated set. To be fair, when I had my fitting with Cleveland, they did suggest an integrated set exactly as you describe, which suggests that this could work for a large number of players of various abilities.

This style of mixed clubs makes so much sense in comparison to the standard Driver, 3W, hybrid, 4 iron thru to SW and putter that stores offer. Slower swing speed players, high handicappers and new golfers would all find golf easier. Having played a few of Cleveland's clubs ( XL Driver, older SGI irons, CBX2 wedges) my next set will be their Driver, Hywood 3+ FW, a mid 20 hybrid and then a few Halo XL irons, then cavity back irons, CBX2 wedges and my putter .

Said it before, love Cleveland. I'm not perhaps in the target group for their irons, but I've owned a set of the older model Halo irons, looks don't matter to me, though i don't find them unattractive, i just loved playing with them despite "conventional wisdom" suggesting i should be using stiff steel not reg graphite for my swing. If i had the cash and needed a new set up i'd certainly go for something like this. Currently playing Cleveland RTX 4 wedges, Sub70 690 pro hollow itons A to 6, then Ping 5 hybrid, 4 Hybrid, 4 wood and driver. Would totally go for CBX wedges, and the set mix you showed here, then 7 wood etc. the easier the better, i shoot low/mid 80's so for me its all about minimising errors, and having fun, not shooting the lights out.

Cavity back for avg golfers that hit it normal or off the midline, and they have lots of forgiveness. Blades for better and faster swing speeds with more player irons and control.

Funny thing is I'm with you on this idea. I've had the Halo's for a while now and love the 4 iron as it gives me a hybrid feel when addressing the ball. I've also now been been fitted for a set of Launcher XL's (as I also want more classic looking clubs) and fully intend to mix and match both sets untill I have the right combo that works well - great minds think alike hahaha

Seems like a very good set up but if you only get fit with a 7i, won't It be a guess if I would like the other clubs?

Good good Andy I have set up a set of clubs that is almost like what you have just shown us I have a three and four Cleveland XL launcher hybrid I then go 52 pitching wedge Strickson ZX for reg steel they’re all reg steel for iron sandwiches and then I have a 48 and he 54 CBX Zipcar and the final club in my bag is my not afraid of the sand anymore smart soul for sandwich

I have the xl halo as my 4,5,6 and then the uhx irons. I just class the xl halo as my hybrids. So forgiving. Even a thin shot gets up in the air.

Whether you play blades or a game improvement set a good shot is one out of the middle. If you miss hit either club you will be short of where you expected. Just play what you like not what the makers tell you, you should play. Just my opinion.

This is what TRULY pisses me OFF about Taylor Made buying out Adams Golf as they made clubs designed explicitly like this, as I am still playing my Adams Idea Tech V3 Forged set after 11 years, my set is 3h,4h,5h,6h, 7 half hybrid, and the 8-GW are forged iron cavity backs, and that has performed so well for my game and when I bought them I was carrying an 8 handicap, was a 6hc for years. Still, NOW after 10 years I have gotten older (62) and my knees and foot hurt not allowing me to play to my 7hc, I am around 12 now.
I also play the newer Sweet 16 4 wood too, it works wonders too, it's my 200-210 club!
Adams Just had the most incredible ideas for golf clubs that made the game easier and more enjoyable!
And TM absorbed Adams for the stupid Slot technology and got rid of the wonderful innovators that made Adams!!
Its why I will never purchase a TM product again

A mixed bag isn’t new. Why limit the discussion to one brand? You can get fitted with eg Mizuno across the Hot Metal range and the Forged range. I upped my game using Ping i500, then later bought 7-PW i59 with i500 5-7 (which have almost identical loft as i59 3-6 iron). Perfect gapping for me, more control with the gaming irons, power at the long end.
