- Every night, I go to bed
Fall on my knees and
I pray for my love
Although he doesn't love me
He can stay just for me
I pray
He used to love me with
All his heart and soul
I always played with him
Just like he was a toy
And know I know
It just didn't pay
To kiss my love
And break his heart
And try to run away
Why, oh, why
Does he hurt me so
I, oh, I never
Thought he'd ever go
Every night
Every night, oooh...
Every night, oooh... - Hudba
I'm 69 and it's doo-wop forever. They'll probably play it at my funeral. One of my favorite girl groups. GO CHANTELS!!!!
I sing along with CZcams every night. Used to be pretty good. Think I still got it. If I didn't, I'd probably be divorced by now what with my wife listening to me all night.
The great Arlene Smith lead singer of the Chantels was only 15 years with a unbelievable voice mercy what a voice
Arlene smith was 13 1/2 when the Chantels recorded Maybe
( Girl groups: the story of a sound)
R u kidding? Now that's a voice
This song was beautifully sung, coupled with raw emotion.
Why isn't music like this anymore!? Beautiful and melodic!
Arlene Smith has a flawless voice and delivery. The best ever!
Early rock and roll girl groups have always gotten short-changed, none more so than the Chantels, whose vocal prowess was so pronounced that when their microphones didn’t work one night in a concert in Chicago, they sang wireless and still blew the audience away. I was incredibly fortunate to see them in person years later at a Richard Nader Rock and Roll Revival at the old Boston Garden. In the early days of the Beatles, this number was eventually performed by the Fab Four in a plethora of different venues around Liverpool and the environs with John singing the lead and Paul and George as the doo-wop backups. Such expressive ballads remind me of Maya Angelou’s famous quote: “Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.”
I'm 70 and listen and still get Chill's like I did 65 years ago 💕💕💕
Im 73 and still dig all the oldies. Ironically, it keeps us young
One the best female vocal groups of all time!!!
i hear them sing and can't help but think of my mom (rip)she would sing like a bird i miss you mama sooooooooooo much because of her i love this music
The Chantels should have been the first girl group inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. They were the first RnB girl group with an album before the Shirelles and the Supremes. What a shameful oversight!
Chills......................
Every song they sing is Flawless and Breathtaking......
desert3347 Ain’t it though

Perfect.....thank you for taking me back to Jr. High & our Friday night dances we had in the late 50's. I was 13 when this was out and like many other boys in that era danced for the first time holding a girl. I guess for many boys & girls it was the first they got that close ! Kids today miss a lot in my opinion.
ARLENE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT!!
Lord I love this tune so much. Many dances to it back in the day.
Reminds me of driving up & down our Main street with the convertible top down... and blasting these songs singing at the top of our lungs!! Those were THE DAYS!!

daniel decker I can't decide whether the Chantels or the Shirelles is my favorite girl group. Maybe they're tied for first. Either way, i love everything the Chantels did.

No MAYBE About it, The Chantels is my All time Favorite Female Singing Group
Brilliant, so powerful.
A. Great. Song. What. A. Voice. From. The. Bronx. N. Y
What a great voice. ...backing vocals outstanding.
Mike Catalano the original women in the background are still performing with a different lead singer. Pretty amazing that they are still together after 60 years and they still sound great
Drummer C they should be in R and R HOF.
Mike Catalano I agree. I can't believe they are not. It would be so nice while 4 of the original 5 are still around. It would make for a good performance at the induction ceremony.
I'd like to see that myself. These girls really knew music
Arlene Smith has an amazing voice , heard she is ,was a teacher in the Bronx
They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of FameThey should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of FameThey should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of FameThey should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of FameThey should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of FameThey should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is why The Chantels were the best girl group in the Girl Groups... Songs like this kept them on top.......
Cynthia's Channel They were definitely the best in the 1950’s.
Cymthia, I share something in common with the Chantels

Gran lento di quei bei tempi...oggi chi lo balla più...
On this day in 1958 {April 28th} the 'Alan Freed's Big Beat Show' did two performances at the Central High School Auditorium in Kalamazoo, Michigan...
One of the show's acts* were the Chantels, and at the time they had two records on Billboard's Top 100 Sides chart, their "Every Night (I Pray)" was at position #65 and their "Maybe" was at #82...
Two weeks earlier "Every Day (I Pray)" peaked at #39 on Billboard's Best Seller in Stores chart and spent thirteen weeks on the Top 100...
And ten weeks earlier "Maybe" peaked at #15 {for 1 week} on the Top 100 chart and it stayed eighteen weeks on the chart...
Besides the above two records, the Bronx, NY quintet had five other Top 100 records; "He's Gone" {#71 in 1957}, "I Love You So" {#42 in 1958}, "Look In My Eyes" {#14 in 1961}, "Well, I Told You " {#29 in 1961}, and "Eternally" {#77 in 1963}...
* Other acts on the 'Big Beat' show were Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Frankie Lymon, Danny & the Juniors, the Diamonds, Billy Ford, the Pastels, Larry Williams, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins...
Personal note: I was thirteen years old in 1958 and living in Utica, NY, but would have loved being in Kalamazoo, MI on the above date!!!
Sung like they meant every last word of it. Classic R&R at it's best.
Excellent !!!!!
Wonderful girls, wonderful song !!!
Great sound. Wow! What can be said? I’m older and knew all the “Girl Groups” back in the 50s, 60s
I like this song. Maybe it is not so great but the memories it brings to me are something worthy to me. I was Young then and had so many dreams. Fortunately for me almost all of them became true.
what a voice
Oh yes, from my youth and early years of rock and roll in the fifties. Such good memories of Houston and long summer nights. This is a real gem by one of the great groups ever.
the era and the music is haunting
On this day in 1958 {April 1st} the Alan Freed's 'Big Beat Show' concert tour played at the Convention Hall in Philadelphia...
One of the acts on the bill was the Chantels; and at the time their "Every Night (I Pray)" was tied* at position #40 on Billboard's Top 100 chart...
And on March 16th, 1958 it had entered the Top 100 at position #67 and two weeks later it would peak at #40 and spent a total of 13 weeks on the chart...
* The record it was tied with at #40 was "You Are My Destiny" by Paul Anka...
There's just no passion in music and people for that matter like there was back then........damn
Why cant all music be THIS GOOD?!?!?! Why cant Today's music be this good???
Well, because there are no more George Goldner's on the scene folks...
But ask yourself; fifty nine (!) years(!!!) from now will there be a single recording
in the top 100 that people will be playing especially with this level of sentiment and reverence...yeah that's where the difference really shows....
But he did! Wonderful 1958-1961 and again late 2019-2022
AWESOME!!!!
best female group in the history of american music............evvvvvvvver
OMG! Haven't heard this in 50 yrs ''- Heavenly"""
One IF not one of the best groups of ALL time.Arlene Smith the greatest!
Just brilliant
I LOVE THIS ONE - THE CHANTELS WERE GREAT. IT BRINGS BACK GRAND CONCOURSE BRONX MEMORIES.
Soo Awesome ..
Just. A. Great. Voice. My. God
Great again
Love their songs x
They were talented and never got anywhere near the re cognition they deserved.
I can listen to a song of today but unfortunately don't feel anything. Okay maybe a few but when I listen to a 1950's and 60's song I feel a whole lot of things and its positive. it's like ASMR to me. I love song with that positive sentiment but with sad haunted melody because when I'm to myself I love to listen to music and shed a tear. I know it's a bit cheesy and unpopular but hey that's me and no shame and being true to myself. The thing is I was born in the 70's.
15....16yrs old and loaded with sk much talent and soul...so we're most of this era...
O man...brings me back to those low lights, and dancing with your sweetie at age 13...wow!
CHCILOBY SIE MIEC TAKICH PIOSENKARZY U NAS W KRAJU ! GENIALNI...
