This movie made me so emotional... I am not Polynesian (I am Puerto Rican) but when I was young, a Polynesian lady took care of me and my brother, so it hit close to home. I teared up and even cried because the music moved me so much. I am definitely buying this movie when it comes out.
Nobody can make a movie like Disney does.

I don't know why for me Auli'i looks identically like Moana itself especially her nose, but Auli'i has lighter skin than Moana. What do you think?

Yeah but the interesting thing is, the character and look of Moana was already designed before Auli'i was cast :P They did decide to include and animate Auli'i's quirks into Moana, though :)
nah moana's nose and mouth are a lot bigger in comparison. They designed her before they cast the voice actor

I am not Hawaiian, Samoan or Tongan.
I am half Maori and apparently, the Maori are the indigenous *Polynesian* people of New Zealand.
Also, the Polynesian Triangle includes groups such as Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga AND New Zealand.
I was watching the "Behind The Scenes" of the movie and noticed some of the characters have NZ accents!
So, I researched if there was a connection between Polynesians & the Maori people and realised I AM Polynesian!
This just makes me so much more excited to see the movie to know that in some way, I am apart of the movie & the culture in the movie.
Also, I am a big Harmoniser (a fan of Fifth Harmony, the girl group) and Dinah Jane Hanson from 5H is Polynesian (she is Tongan) so in some way, I am connected to her culturally! That also made me super excited.
Who else is Maori?? Reply to me if you are.

I think that's what had a huge impact on me! I grew up listening to them, and to hear their songs in the movie really gave me the feels.

Felisha Taulbee kinda but really isn't. She wasn't born royal or married to royal but she did do something heroic. I think "princess" isn't the right term more like "hero"
If you wear a dress and have a animal sidekick then you are Princess :D

I saw it just two days ago. It was absolutley amazing. The animation looked fantastic the performance of the actors were just spectacular especially Auli'i Cravalioh. Her performance of Moana was absolutley stunningly magnificent especially for the fact that she's just fourteen or fifteen years old. I was blown away with her performance. I also never knew that Dwayne Johnson could sing. That was impressive. For those of you who haven't seen this movie yet GO SEE MOANA ASAP! IT's AMAZING!😂

Pacific Islands are in the pacific ocean. New Zealand is also a group of islands (although much bigger) in the pacific as well but that specific group e.g. Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti are closer to the equator

It's worth noting that the Polynesians learned respect for nature the hard way. The Maori hunted the moa to extinction, resulting in starving eagles attacking humans instead, which ultimately led to the extinction of these eagles. Just goes to show that every people has its pitfalls and has made its share of mistakes.

It's sad that they didn't go to Tonga, seeing as the Tongan (Tu'i Tonga) Empire spread throughout Polynesia, encompassing Fiji, Samoa, Niue, Tokolau, Tuvalu, the Cook Islands and as far north as Kiribati. Some Samoan chiefs still derive their authority from the Tu'i Tonga rule back to around the 1600s.
