Now starting a new series where I will react to celeb skincare/current events in the skincare world. I do not like calling people out but here I feel that it is important to elaborate on why dermatologists got upset last week when this video was released.
In the video, I will have comments on Dry Brushing, Exfoliators, Organic ingredients, Gold sculpting bars, and of course sunscreen (a crash course on SPF)!

“I have dry skin”. Girl, you brush your skin with a dry brush and exfoliate your face EVERYDAY 😭
😭😭😭😆
GOOP 🤮 Appropriate Name for Entitled Brats. And SUNSCREENS ❗️She hardly even uses it, which is why her chest is spotted 🐆 & looks like a burn Victim 🔥. My Father 💔 died of melanoma because there wasn’t much of a push for sunscreens & he was in the military🥇in Vietnam. I looked up EWG & it’s a group supported by Natural Food & product Companies - it’s a Sketchy Organization. GOOP….Well Named 🎯
@@danielsugaimd pls sunscreen for oily acne prone skin. Tnx Dr
great info thx so much
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Not to be unkind, but you can tell that she has sun damage to her skin. She definitely needs to stop using spf as a highlighter and actually apply the correct amount.
I agree. Her skin does look sun damaged. She should be very careful. Using the spf the way she does, that's just stupidity.
Unfotunately many people do. Especially when they were raised, when sunscreens weren't big thing. Damage that has been done in their childhood or in their youth, you can't take it back.
Gwyneth was a teen in the 1980s - they used to oil that was SPF2
& get as much sun as psbl.
Gwyneth espc did that
a lot 🙏🇬🇧
(& there were no sunscreens with SPF 50/6P that you could wear on yr face all the time - & even in the early 2010s you were struggling for those.) The science is there now, companies hv invested in researching Sunscreens, but way back when in the 80s & early 90s - suntans were v big in the U S (& still are to many.)
Dr. Sugai, of all the dermatologists I follow, your reaction has been by far the most kind. You have such a calm demeanor. Your patients must really love visiting your office. I appreciate your gentle yet still evidence-based critique. Your videos are so informative and relaxing.
This made my day- thank you so much for saying that!☺️☺️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
‘Aging is a blessing’ THANK YOU for telling your patients and putting that message out there! It’s my motto to live by-my husband was 35 years old when he died and every day on this earth is a BLESSING!!! Love you and your channel!!! Thank you for doing what you do!!! Sending you so many blessings of health and happiness! -Metta 🤙
Sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss n hugs
I’m not kanaka but as an indigenous person I try to be aware of other indigenous issues so it means a lot that you mentioned what ingredients are bad for the water in Hawaii and I’m so glad you are promoting respect and sustainability
Means a lot to me. Mahalo and take care!🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙
I appreciate your gentle approach. You’re very kind.🙏🏼
Thank you so much- appreciate it 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@danielsugaimd what can you recommend for flaky dry skin “ I also have seborrheic derm so I don’t want to make that worse :( also my teenage daughter who’s 14 is suffering from acne what can you recommend?
Does she realize water is a chemical? Dan...you did a great job! 👍🏻
Thanks so much, Julie!🙏🏼🤙
So are pesticides! What's your point? Some chemicals are toxic and some aren't.
@@MegKampen I think Julie’s point is GP said chemicals are bad to use and water, a chemical, is not bad to use. Don’t let your pain allow you to be unkind to others.
You forgot to look at the ingredients of the Vitner's daughter "serum". It's not a serum at all. It's an oil. So she just started off with an occlusive and them packed everything else on top.
Not very educated on this. My guess is that’s bad stops the other things from being absorbed?
Exactly. The order should be thinnest(watery-est) to thickest(oily-est). If you put the thick ones before, the thin ones won't get in and it will be a waste of money and time.@@MaxOakland
Yours is the kindest, less judgmental reaction video I have seen. You irradiate inner peace and I love it!!
My mom is from Brazil and didn’t wear SPF during her childhood and she’s had multiple cancerous spots on her skin removed as an adult. Skin cancer is real
Most people didn't then because they didn't know the dangers of sun. That was just how it was back then. Nowadays we know better. Thank god!
The sun is even stronger now🙏💜
Gwyneth putting sunscreen on like its highlighter
Dr.Dan:The sun hits the WHOLE face!
She really needs to start watching your channel!!
It seems like she’s allergic to anything sensible 😑
Love your professional, non-clickbaity approach. New subscriber.
Thank you so much for saying that- means a lot!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙🤙😊
"I just apply where the sun hits", DR : the sun hits your whole face 😁
“to age is a blessing” and “respect the ‘āina!” love this 👏👏👏👏👏
Wow, your comments about eczema and psoriasis are more informative than I what I have gotten from 3 dermatologists, 1 primary care dr., 1 allergist, and 1 rheumatologist! I will look to see if you have any videos delving into this topic! Thanks!
18:44 “We don’t want to be the sun’s punching bag” 😲🌞
Love this! Dr. Sugai, can you please do a video review on Nuface or any at home micro-current device? 🙏
Her skin looks sun damaged. Now we know why
Thank you for the comprehensive sun screen advice. I am very fair skinned and really haven’t used sun screen except for going to the beach. I always convince myself that I’m not in the sun “that much” but you made it clear that the UV rays have a different opinion! I just lost whining rights about my wrinkles since that’s probably the main reason! 😳 You’re the best!
Thank you for keeping it classy and not being judgy! Refreshing to see.
I’m a new Dr. Sugai convert! Thank you for your terrific advice. I really appreciate your professional opinions, your reviews of products and your humor. 👍🏼👍🏼
It’s great to see you use the products you talk about! 🌺
Thank you for commentary! 👍🏼
I appreciate you being honest ✝️, most of all being adamant on sunscreen.
Many thanks, Dr. Sugai. This was very informative, and necessary.
Thank you so much, Isa for watching and for saying that. Definitely took me awhile to think about this. I never like going after people online but felt like this was a good teaching opportunity. Appreciate you!
@@danielsugaimd I appreciate you stepping up to the Hollywood elite. You have more clout.
As someone who breaks out with psoriasis so badly I cringed when she brushed her skin! That would be so harsh on my skin 😣
She drives me crazy with her poor advice.
Sunscreen: I grew up in California before we had sun block lotions, we had 'sun tan' lotions. Anything that gave us darker skin. Finally at about age 30 we had sunscreens and I was living in Portland, with less bright sun and wetter climate. I used it every day, winter and summer. But even with being careful and no longer sun bathing I got melanoma on the back of my upper arm. I credit my eagle-eyed dermatologist for finding it...with a magnifying glass. She saved my life. The mole never looked like the examples on the internet. I now see her every 4 months for skin checks. BTW, she also diagnosed a hair follicle disease and got me to a specialist and one year later I'm in remission from that. I see that specialist every 5 months. I am so thankful for having two great dermatologists. And I now tell my women friends that their thinning hair might be more than just a normal aging process. Thanks for your great videos and recommendations.
I just discovered your channel today. I want to thank you for your free yet sooo generous and helpful information! People like you are blessed for good luck!
Means so much to me hearing that! Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼☺️🤙
I would love to hear more about exfoliating and dry skin, especially sensitive
This was done so well.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Just found your channel! Thanks great info. Dermatology tinted spf is my fav for everyday where !!
Yes- such a great sunscreen! And thank you for watching 🙏🏼🤙
“You dabbed it on like it was an eye serum.”
I was thinking the exact same thing 😫
I laughed at his reaction to this as well! 100% agree!
I loved that he used "lame"
I love the covert hiding all the pillows under the blanket in the background 😆
😅😂I tried 😭😭😭
I live in Woodland Washington, and I agree about "we get an abundance of cloudy days", (although Im happy with all our sunshine this past week for my garden prepping) but we still need sunscreen. I was shocked at how little she used too. My first thought was "why bother"...Thank you for the great info about what is considered "clean ing". Theres so much hype about clean verses none clean, its easy for people to tag "clean" on anything, and everyone will jump on board. I heard a Dr. say we should get at least an hour a day of sun WITHOUT sunscreen for absorption of Vitamin D...what are your thoughts on this?
I appreciate how gently and kindly your reactions are to her video.
Wow, that video inspired a lot of reaction videos, lol.
😄😄sure did. Dermatologists are taking the opportunity to repeat the same message we have been trying to disseminate
its all marketing
Bella Thorne’s skincare video did too with her DIY skincare routine. 🙄
Love your professional approach! This did create quite the stir. Not surprisingly. When I saw her GRWM I thought girl you are you going to hear it on that sunscreen. Or lack of it... 😂 Love your videos!
Sure did create the buzz 😂that maybe they wanted! Thank you so much for watching! Appreciate you and hope you had a nice weekend 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
My HG sunscreens: Canmake Mermaid Skin; Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk (light blue bottle, 2019 version); and Sunkiller. All are Asian, but you can easily get them through Amazon, etc. (all SPF 50 PA+++ or higher)
Very interesting review, thank you for the sunscreen tips! I really enjoyed this video! Have a nice day Doc🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Hi Dr. thank you I live in Australia and we have highest skin cancer, I would never take advice from a a celebrity, thank you for this info.
Hello and thank you for watching! Hope you stay healthy and safe, my friend!🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙☺️
Do you have a recommendation about sunscreen for around the eye area? Most sunscreen state not to use around the eyes? PS- Your great!
Love this, so informative, and kind. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for all this information!
Thank you, Debbie for watching! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I just clicked on the video because you're gorgeous, but then I went and learned something. For the spreading of psoriasis from the scratching is it mostly a feature of plaque psoriasis or does it occur in guttate psoriasis as well? Just wondering if I should consider being extra-extra careful haha.
I love and start following you Dr. Sugai because you are telling the truth. Also, you recommend products that is very affordable and same results with those expensive ones. I am 59 years old woman with a heritage of Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, American and back in the days I only used name brands skin care which some of them give me a heavy reactions that I need a doctor specialist about facial care. My parents are telling me that it’s a waste of money buying these expensive stuffs where I can get affordable and cheap in the drugstores, just look it doesn’t have too much chemicals. Both of my parents are on their 80’s but people thinks they are my older brother and sister as they are both youthful looking, they never used any of these so called skin care products, they used a lot of vegetables, fruits, honey and make them into oils, lotions that they used daily. Whatever they have in their garden that grows, they make them to teas, oils and lotions from tropical trees also. I’m just lazy doing it so I start buying the ones you recommended and it really works!!! I look young than my age but more younger now that even my siblings are asking what I have been using, lol 😂. I told them and everyone that to watch and subscribe in your channel, they will learn so much from you and you are not biased nor been paid by these companies. So far, some members of our families and relatives start buying and using them. They already results in just a week, their skin is much better and so soft to the touch….skin pigmentations, black and white spots start to diminish and now they are hooked. They are watching you now, what products you will recommend for us Asian mature skin. Thank you so much Doc for sharing your videos and tell us the truth what works, God bless you and hope you don’t stop sharing your knowledge with us.Love and hugs!!! 🙏❤️🤗
Wow- thank you so much, Tessa! This comment is everything to me and definitely reminds me why I started this channel. I have been continuously touched by such heartfelt and kind feedback throughout the last 18mo and I thank you for that. Cheers to more fun and learning here on CZcams 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️
You’re very welcome Dr. Daniel Sugai ❤️ My whole families from siblings, cousins, nieces, aunts even grandmothers on their 70’s to 90’s we’re asking me what I have been using why my face looks youthful and brighter, lol 😂 I have my whole family and most relatives born and living here in the US and some are around the world 🌍 Women in our families love to chat what’s new especially about beauty products, lol 😆 Kindly please Doc, keep making videos about beatification but most especially skin care. Endless thanks to you Dr. Dan, God bless!!! 🙏❤️
Hi, Dr.Sugai. I'd love to know what Sunscreens you would recommend to use in Hawaii. I want to protect the great beautiful nature in Hawaii, too!
Would you consider a review on lancome or clinique ?
I bought the DRMTLGY Tinted SPF 46 on your recommendation and love it! Someone told me yesterday I should not use because it has chemical filters and that will make my melasma worse. Thoughts?
Hey I'm not an expert but there was a recent study that shows that even physical sunscreens work similar to chemical sunscreens in the sense that they also absorb the sunrays... only 5% of it actually gets deflected....while chemical suncreens fully absorb the rays . I could be wrong so dont take this to be facts but I would say if it doesn't irritate your skin then don't worry about it!
Dr Sugai, you are very kind to her on this video.
I love your approach to beauty and skincare so comforting
Great video walk through.
Mahalo Dr. Sugai
Thank you for sharing your message. Her sunscreen segment was wholly irresponsible. Likewise, her use of the words “clean” and “non-toxic” are irresponsible in the context she uses them. I have so much more to say, but....
Agree with you. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!🙏🏼😄🤙
You’ve got such a lovely, kind soul.
You were too kind. You actually will catch me "spot treating" spf. I use an spf 50 all mineral baby cream around my eyes 👀 over my eye cream. Then I slather on my face, neck, ears and decolletage. If I am going to be outside with short sleeves, I also apply to my arms. I also have UV blocking tinted glass on my car.
I really enjoyed your breakdown of this video. You were kind and educational about why her method doesn't work.
Very educational.
Thank you so much 😊
Love how balanced and fair you are, while still calling her out on misinformation and privilege. 🙂
I totally agree with that natural, clean, non toxic doesn't mean better. I am surprised you have not react more to the Vintner's Daughter serum, that is a blend of oil sold at a crazy price, over 200$ for an once (30 ml)! It is absurd and outrageous!
Just found you on CZcams. Subscribed! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you so much!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Dr. Sugai, hello, I’m a new subscriber. Sorry if you’ve covered this already. You mentioned starting a skin care routine early. I didn’t start until I was in my 40s. What would be a good routine for a preteen. I’d like to make sure my daughter has a good start. Thank you!
Can you react to Liv Tyler’s routine please? Also, can you review the Curiel skincare/body care line?
Please do Lisa Rinna Vogue skincare video 😁
Your videos are amazing!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😊
As a retired chiropractor your demeanor is wonderful your patients must love you. I had a patient come into office she had a strong odd smell she said it was something she ate. When i palpated her back it was lumpy. I looked and there were about 6 holes where the skin was melted away. Referred to a dermatologist, she passed away about 2 months later, malignant melanoma.
Hi Dr. What are good body oils or moisturizes? I will stop dry brushing.
Niiiiice. I can kinda predict what's gonna happen but still excited to watch this. I honestly enjoyed watching her and mario batali in their show where they went through Spain eating stuff but I am dissociating that from what she does nowadays with the health misinformation.
Also I can get that "gold" sculpting bar online where I'm from for 3 dollars. 😆
Thank you, Tony! Wish we could go back to the days of her eating through Spain and watching her on Shallow Hal without having to deal with the controversies too! 😩😁🙏🏼
@@danielsugaimd yeah Shallow Hal!, that takes me back!
Really powerful comments about sunscreen. As an Australian with very fair skin, I'm super aware of the sun and its potential damage, though when I was young it wasn't a societal concern as it is today. There needs to be more actual plain talk about the sun and its potential to kill you. Skin cancer can kill you. That's a fact and I wish more people would think of that. Love your comments so much!
You are very tactful and kind.
Love love love this!!! Please do more of these videos!
Thank you so much!!
I wear at least an spf 50 on face, ears, neck (front and back) and decolletage. Also spf chapstick. Reapply both all day.
Doctor, what do you think of the Honest Beauty?
Thanks for speaking so plain to us
Your awesome
I'm starting skin care at 36 😩 after my skin started becoming unpredictable and dry. As a teen and in my 20s my skin was on the slightly oily side but didn't cause issues so I thought I was fortunate. Now it's a mess and I'm trying to learn as much as I can
Better late than never! 😊 Maybe if you have big concerns, dermatologist could really be helpful.
Stronger together 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hello doctor..would you please answer my question. I have been suffering from eye rosacea acne for a long time. Of course, I also have skin rosacea, but it got better with ivermectin, but I can't find an eye cream, please help me.
I just want to say: I love you. I love you honest and cientific point of view! Spanish subtitles please! ⌨️🙏🌸💜
How can I purchase prescriptions from you??? Retinol, Moisturizer I need to know what you suggest, I’ve used L’Oréal for years, did I screw up? please reply 😊
hello dr..off topic though, im wondering with the neutrogena rapid repair wrinkle regenerating cream, i apply it on my cheeks, face, forehead, chin.. now do i avoid applying around the lip area, nose area & on the nose? or can i apply everywhere?? thank you, have a lovely day 💙 love your content always
I've seen derms apply on their nose including Dr. Sugai. A couple of derms I've seen apply retinol, say you can use something like vaseline or cerave healing ointment in areas you don't want the retinol to creep into or possibly irritate. Dr Dray applies it to her eyelids. Dr Alexis Stephens applies it around the corner of her eyes, the corners of her nose, the corners of her lips and on her lips (she uses it on her nose). Dr Stephens is also pretty adamant about using no more than a pea-size amount of the retinoid (she demoed this by placing a pea on her finger and disbursing the retinol). She then places little dots of it all around her face.
While not a GP fan by any stretch, I do give her props for not pumping her face full of fillers and also for not using lighting tricks in the Vogue video. However, her skincare routine as is lame as her advice. No way a woman at 48 should have such deep crows feet and forehead lines unless she is doing pretty much everything wrong skincare-wise ...
Great points. Have to give it to her for those things where she showed her “real self” but at the same time she also revealed how little she does. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏼🤙
Skin damage most probably. If she applies sunscreen this way in her daily life, it's no wonder...
She’s a beautiful lady. 48 looks different for everyone.
I think she looks great. But since there is no close up, it's hard to see closely how she looks. The only thing I noticed in clip of her video, that her decoltee area have some real sun damage. But many 48 year olds have some forehead lines.
What do you think, Cerave Retinal or Olay ?????
Weleda has Alcohol denat, also in very front place in the ingredient list, is that a good ingredient for the skin
I had an spf 50 tube i kept reapplying when i went snowboarding last winter and still managed to become severely burned 😢. Now i also make sure to use spf rated clothing and a face shield. The sun bounces of snow so it's a double whammy. Especially here in California where people ski in short sleeves, shorts, and even sports bras. I'm going for protection now, no more cuteness 😅
I have flaky hair. I have highlighted hair so what's the best way to treat dry scalp and not wreak my highlights??
What's the best way to treat brown spots
OMG I laughed so hard when you put the image in corner of you using the gold bar 🤣🤣
Lol! Thank you!😄🤣🙏🏼🤙
Amlactin is the best lotion ever! Lactic acid is such a gentle chemical exfoliation. I just use once in the morning & night and I rarely need to use lotion in between.
Please react to jada pinkett smiths skincare video on her channel! That one was a doozy too 😅
You're too young to have wrinkles! Thank you for explaining the real science to the general public. I'm a less is more type of girl, and a chemistry science geek. At 57 years old I'm so glad I lathered that sunscreen all over when I was a young person. I love your videos! Thanks for keeping it real!
At her age it's totally possible have wrinkles. There is no one age when wrinkles start. Depends on so many things. 😉
Can you do review on Jlos skincare?
I had a basic skincare routine as a teen-ager. Cleanse tone moisture, massage is the best and hydration. Sunscreen is so important l am make-up artist and most of the damage l see is sun damage. Skin care products are individual.
Thank you for sharing and good to hear you were ahead of the curve as a teen in terms of skin care! 👍🙌
@@danielsugaimd yeah ahead only in skincare and maybe studying, as l was abit of a netd . I was a typical cheeky teenager in every other wey. Poor Mum 💯😎😂
New sub here. I love your videos!
Thank you, Amy!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙
What's the best way to treat KP
Yes i think it's unbelievable to do dry brush with dry skin... I have atopy and in order to help blood and linfatic circulation the best is a gently hand massage to me.
Can you recommend sunscreen for brown skin. I have noticed brown spots on my face.
I do power walking in the park most days
A higher SPF would be good (not a doctor), you could find one that doesn't give that much of a white cast.
I have watched a few reactions to Gwyneth’s routine, most have been not as kind as yours and I appreciate that. Let’s not spread (woman) “ageism hate” either! 😊
I get what you mean but she’s not doing other women any favors either. Obviously her skin care isn’t working very well but is presenting her opinion as fact but it’s clear on her face and chest it’s not working...
Yes, I have seen so many people bashing her and how old she old looks. I am no fan of her, but some comments have been really rude. And probably most have been from women. I wonder when they come to GP'age and many those people may not look that good either. Reality is everyone will age and eventually people have wrinkles etc. Let's be more kind to each other. 😊
I don't have sensitive skin but Goop sunscreen with octinoxate gave me the a horrible rash that lasted for a month.
Thank you 😊👍❤️
Ok, but she has regained my respect after her post about anti Asian hate. I still feel unsafe leaving my home after experiencing racism at my bus stop.
I started at about 28. Moisturizer and sunblock. It contains essential oils. Many are sensitive
Glad, I am not the only one who was bit late! 🥳
The people diagnosed with skin cancer... how was their sunscreen usage? Was a majority a specific skin color and undertone?
Is it true that moisturizer makes skin lazy?
