  • I can't believe my baby is a year old already! I recorded this video for you as a fresh new mama (for the 7th time) mere weeks after giving birth. It's a little scary to share something so raw and messy, but that's genuinely a huge part of motherhood.
Some mothers like to go straight after birth in the hospital for a few days, before going home. I loved spending my first days at home, connecting with the whole family, and then slipping out once I needed space and felt physically up for the trip.
I booked the "shared private room" which is 3 small bedrooms in a row that share a bathroom and sitting area. It was moderately priced and private enough for me. There are also completely shared rooms that are cheaper (but require baby to sleep in the nursery so your roommates can rest too) or suites with a private bathroom.
I brought a stack of paper cups and several tea bags and was able to make myself nice hot drinks at any hour. I slipped small snacks, like fruit or yogurt from breakfast, into the rolling bassinet and stashed them in the mini-fridge for later.
When you get home, send in your receipt to your kupat cholim and they'll reimburse their part. Check with them before you plan your trip how much they cover, depending on your level of supplemental insurance.
