  • This is part three of my version of a CarPC, a DIY car entertainment system for my Chevy Traverse based on a Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) and Plex Media Server. In part three I wire up the 7 inch Raspberry Pi touch screen, install Plex, setup network file sharing, and test out an initial movie stream.

I think your idea is for them to use the touch screen to choose and play the movies. our truck came with 2 rear screens and a rear dvd player. each have composite RCA video audio jacks. I was thinking of doing this same thing for long trips or commutes. My idea was to put the Pi in our dash compartment, with an external harddrive, and a usb power bank. The space actually has a media input, but not video. It powers on when the truck starts, and turns off when ignition is off.
I could setup the Pi within that compartment, with the external usb 3.0 harddrive. I also have a travel router that I could use to manage the wifi. have the video and audio run from the glovebox compartment to the rear dvd player and connect into that. I'd have to get a remote for the PI so they can navigate and play movies. The interface for playing movies would probably end up being Kodi.
The power bank could run the Pi with the attached harddrive, and the travel router, while being charged from the vehicle. What I don't want is to stop and have the whole system turn off and then turn back on when we start again.
The other option is to not run the AV at all, and just use Plex to serve the videos to the kid's tablets.

Great videos on the project - I'm curious on what kind of performance you've had. We've got four kids and only streaming 2 wouldn't work for us, so I'm interested in how things have worked for you. Were you able to get your wlan2 speeds up?

Thanks for watching. It’s still a work in progress at the moment. I should have more figured out with it soon.

It is still a work in progress. It lost priority since we were staying home all the time due to the pandemic. Should be starting it back up soon.

CZcams videos take a bit for me to make. If find me on FB (ctrlaltmake) or Instagram (ctrl_alt_make) you will see me posting more often about various projects.

@@CTRLALTMAKE I think you should be in Guinness book of 🌎 records for building a bunk bed in record time.
