I'm here for the Darktide but I still thoroughly enjoyed the Bomb King portion. I wouldn't have been upset if it had just been that lol. You do you, man.
The hardliners who say "never shoot into hordes" sound like they barely understand the game and its mechanics past the few meta builds they run. Its perfectly viable. If you have any situational awareness and tactical appraisal, chances are you know when you can/can't, so you do you. Plenty of builds can actually work very well if you're only pulling out your autogun to clear the trash mobs before returning to your melee character-killer.
one of my favorite builds runs a recon lasgun and focuses mowing down hordes over the usual veteran "headshot specials and gunners" playstyle works great since it clears the chaff so the rest of the team can kill the important targets without having to chew through a hundred groaners. and if they don't clean them out quickly i can just pop the stance and beam down any gunners in the room through the crowd by shooting a literal hole through 'em. very fun and seems to work really well with most people i've run into so far. It's also just.. really really fun since mowing down hordes with a laser machine gun just FEELS so f^ckin good, and ye old chainsword/axe dispatches the beefy bois fine
MG4 Lasgun is the best, blasting full auto into a horde with this gun is the best, it's a shame other guns cant blast hordes without being extremely inefficient, but atleast we've got this lasgun Also a benefit of shooting into hordes is the talent which gives your teamates toughness when theyre near you kills, if you pick that talent up, blasting hordes with the MG4 actually becomes justifiable
My main build of late has been essentially this build and I love it. Two main alternatives in the skill tree I would add is, at the top of the tree swapping the 5% health for +1 stam and swapping the marksman rending for ranged suppression immunity. The gun has some pretty big recoil when going "full auto" so avoiding suppression can be huge in many situations. For melee I would suggest anything that can kill maulers. Being decent for crushers is a plus.
I usually run a stamina curio on vet since he needs it and I think wilespice mentioned the usage of suppression immunity. I find that executioners stance is sufficient to override that need most games but I've had the occasional annoying moment against gunners.
If you were after a slower marksman's style weapon for use with Marksman's Focus I'm surprised you didn't settle on the Vraks VII headhunter - this gun with a Marksmans Focus build is my go to for Aurics nowadays and definitely fulfills the fantasy. A lot of people don't like it for the lowish maniac damage but if you can hit heads well it's an absolute beast. Great vid though, I love my MG4 for the days when i feel my clicking finger can take the punishment!
I actually tested the Mk7 Headhunter before this video, i have a video on it. In short marksman's focus provides NO breakpoint advantage to a well made vet build. Bummer right? I recommend the full auto mod. Its buggy but it helps.

Yes, the Vraks always had fantastic weakspot breakpoints at base (my Shout/Focus Target build always takes one) and the breakpoint situation is why i always wince when I see people recommending Deadly Accurate over Opening Salvo. One thing to state though in favor of MF is when paired with Surgical it gives "forced consistancy" when you DON'T hit heads. The multiplier on crit damage for those moments when you can't line up a headshot is what feels nice to me - forced chest shot crits with the boost from MF seems to give a level of consistancy in practise that I don't get with the raw gun. Though this is obviously subjective as its dependant on a lot of chaotic factors, so I don't disagree with your assessment of MF not being needed for the gun. As an aside (and I'm sure you've probably tested this but I'll throw my hat in the ring anyway) my absolute favorite gun for use with Marksmans Focus is the somewhat janky Agripinaa Mark 9 Headhunter. It basically splits the Vraks 7 shot in two and has some much more interesting interactions with both Exec and Marksmans. You can play it like the vraks 7 in terms of overall style, though instead of Opening Salvo I go with No Respite + either surgical, Headhunter or Crucian to make it a consistant gun turret option for me. Curious on whether you'd ever done any deep dives on this gun as it seems to be one of the most forgotten weapons and it's so much better since Patch 13 (though still occasionally suffers some of the burstfire breakings).
I've personally played with the other headhunters but haven't yet tested it with Marksman's since patch 13. I'll make a note to look into it!@@Ultragravy

I'm interested in whether you've given the Vraks VII Headhunter a shot? It's the single-shot variant. I've been running a build very similar to this vid's, using a real solid gun roll, and I've been doing very well compared to my damnation pub queues. It does play a lot like the sniper style(for darktide at least), and it gains benefit from the left tree pretty fully. It's also an excellent team role, since you're wiping out all the shooters, gunners and snipers especially, which is often a bit of a gap in pub groups otherwise. It did take me a little a while to really get comfortable and competent with the Vraks VII though - You gotta deliberately slow down and try to only accept headshots(mostly), but after you get used to it, you speed way up and just start chain poppin heads or piercing flak. Reaper or flamer in 2 shots, other elites in 1 shot, maulers take like 3 in the chest, and all scabs go down real quick. And it feels very satisfying and fun. Only weakness I really 'feel' is against hordes, Crushers, and bosses, and the biggest problem, Dreg Bruisers. But that's what your other tools are for.

I totally forgot that I used to play some Paladins! I played a bit of bomb king but mostly the rocket launcher dragon dude. I like that you could shoot his big projectile with a rocket and make a huge boom, very satisfying. Also, enjoyed the discussion on horde shooting. Thanks!
I used to play Paladins a lot. So many janky builds were taken. Kinda miss my DPS Ying I used to run XD No one suspects the teleporting Ying to gank you. Now as for this build. I have to ask, did neither of the las pistols feel good for you with it or did they just not hit any notable breakpoints?
No one expects DPS Ying and its really fun when people do it well. I was never good at it but I liked playing with one on my team. I've heard the laspistols both do very well in this kind of build but I like the aesthetic of a carbine or rifle more.
Hes definitely a challenging hero to play, i recommend lurking around corners so you can shell from a distance. He's more of an artillery platform than a Frontline
MG4 is great fun to use! I did the math a while ago and compared overall damage per shot to total ammo capacity and MG4 blows every other gun out of the water with the exceptions of the Columnus Braced and Graia Braced.

Was not expecting the BOMB KING interruption. My buddies have been trying to get me to play that with them while they're inebriated. I've tried the game before, but I HATE Overwatch and the Hero Shooter genre in general, so I can't get into Paladins.
Buddy, my Graia Mk IV has a larger ammo pool than any heavy stubber, and my build focuses on ammo replenishment and rezzing/buffing downed teammates. Goddamn, do you guys LIKE making things less fun? Good video, liked the sudden switch into a game I hadn't heard of since Overwatch was an actually good game.
Slavish adherence to meta is boring. Especially if you have a lot of hours in. Its a PvE game. Just have fun! Glad you liked the paladins bit. It was fun to do.

The OG Laspistol is an even better choice for this build imo. Abuse the finesse multiplier and incredible hip fire

I have another video on the vraks. I like it, but it doesn't work In this build. It might benefit more from a marksmans focus keystone.
I actually been working on a build similar to this for a week, my only issue is how my fingers hurt after two missions from none stop shooting.
Definitely get the full auto mod. Its a life saver there.
