Selling items sometimes is a lot of work and you still have to hold onto the items until they sell which takes up space. I’ve learned that if I am OK with getting rid of clothing, I am OK with donating to Goodwill/Salvation Army and getting it out of my small condo ASAP :-)
Consignment is also another quick way to make cash! My fav place close to me posts on Instagram a lot and has a big following so my stuff always sells really quick which is great!
I always try consigning first,what ever they don’t want can be donated,but I always make some cash. Because I don’t retrieve what didn’t sell,it is out of my life once it hits the car,I also donate immediately after the consignment effort.
Great video. Speaking from experience, if your dryer isn't drying very well, have your super check the vents for a lint build up. It could cause a fire. Also, if you use dryer sheets (not recommended), they create a film on your lint trays. Rinse them with warm water and dawn. That can also improve dryer time.
As someone who lives in 550 square feet, get bed risers!! Or better yet go on amazon & get the zinus smartbase 18' platform bed frame. I have 8 64 litre totes under my bed and with a bed skirt you can't even see them! It's wasted real estate in tiny apartments!
The zinus frame also comes in a small box, it's crazy light weight and separates into 2 sections which fold up, I wish I had gotten this year's ago!
hannah, i hope you find time to be kind to yourself sometimes too ❤️ it’s so easy to get down on ourselves for not doing what we deem to be “basic” tasks that “should” be easy, but when you throw mental health and regular life stress into the mix, it feels like you’re doing these simple tasks with 50 lb weights on your ankles and it can be really challenging and discouraging. i’m 30 and just figured out that “laziness” usually means “preserving energy” which is a survival technique, nothing to be ashamed of. you deserve the same compassion that you’d show anyone else :) the place looks great by the way. sending love.

girl what helps with selling clothes is establishing the stupid long 1-2 hours of taking pics of the products then neatly organize the stuff and put it away. then leisurely post it so that way you can post when it’s convenient to sell but you got all the pics! bc i hate the amount of time it takes to takes pics of everything but this way it’s all over with. hope this helps you’re doing great hannah ❤️

This is so relatable. It's tough to get in the mood to clean when certain things don't have a home. I decided to do a deep dive into EVERYTHING in my home and ended up donating 8 bags of clothes and "stuff" we just werent using. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders, and now it's a million times easier to clean.

Take the things to a thrift shop that purchases things from you?
Set a time limit to list the items and if you don’t do it by then, donate to a shelter, or a halfway house etc.
Also I feel this chaos a lot of times when I let my apartment go, your environment definitely can take a toll on you without you realizing until way later down the road. You got this!

Having to dry things twice is a sign your dryer vent is clogged, it's a major cause of house fires be sure to call maintenance or have a company clean it.
Also a tip to keep things clean. Coat hooks and shoe rack right at your entry. It's good with keeping shoes you wear often tidy. Also it helps with time efficiency, and keeping your floors clean.

I feel this entire episode down to my soul. I do this exact same thing and only seem to be able to really truly clean when it's SUPER late but that's the clean that makes me feel the calmest afterwards.

I’m with you - I can’t stand a mess. I did the KonMari thing a few years ago, and it really helped me get rid of a lot of stuff.
Decluttering at the speed of life was a helpful audiobook for cleaning, I learned strategies I didn't know before, that were genuinely helpful.
I’m not sure if you’ve already have shelves above your toilet in the bathroom but that would be a great way to maximize the space and storage! What I love about living small is that there are so many great alternatives for designing efficient small spaces!
And a shelf over the door inside the bathroom if possible.
Can you buy storage bins or big baskets that you can store stuff on top of your closet? It’s an open space that you are not using. You can store like seasonal things or random stuff. Also maybe it makes sense to get a dresser to replace your night stand. That way you have more storage.

You're not alone! I've been trying to settle into my new place over the past YEAR... moved into a smaller house, with a layout that has so much unusable space and lacks storage. Oh and I have "roommates" as in yeah I have a husband and daughter, so that means more STUFF to organize and put away. LOL I love that you shared your mess with us, and the you got some stuff accomplished! YAY YOU!

I recently decluttered my closte right before moving, and I was veeery cutthroat. Used the marie kondo method where you see if it sparks joy, which was so vague in the beginning but I looked at it like this: when you go through your closet or just look at it you feel something with every item such as ‘oh I bought this on a whim but I never reach for it’ ‘I don’t like how this fits’ ‘this fabric makes me sweat’ or something. And then just get rid of those items, and thank for what it has done for you. Also, taking everything (!!) out of your closet and putting it onto your bed helps realising how much stuff you hold on to. Stuff that bring those negative feelings/thoughts with them. Thinking like this made it easier for me to get rid of a lot!

Love your apartment! This is exactly how I do room rescues. I talk my way through it all. Break it down into parts. If I’m really overwhelmed - I’ll take pictures of the mess, then go sit and make the decisions, then get up and take the actions. It’s the most efficient use of my time and energy. In a Facebook group - we post before and after pictures. Very satisfying. I am pretty good at putting things away right away - but there will be those times when too much is going on at one time and my good habits fly out the window.
ha i think eventually everyone hits a point in their adulthood where they hesitate to throw out a good box. I've officially hit that phase. I kept my computer boxes for 2 years. I finally had to cave, and throw them out to make way for totebins (ie next level boxes).

for the items that you have to list on depop, if they’re already packed out in bags, maybe you could put them in a little corner in your living room, that way you’d have more space on the floors in your closet & plus if they’re out in the open you’ll rembr to list them & actually get it done, bc it would no longer be ‘out of sight, out of mind’ if that makes sense

I rent the downstairs of my parent's basement, so my bedroom is like a studio apartment. All of my storage and crap I don't know what to do with goes in my closet. Every few months I have to completely reorganize and go through my closet because it becomes such a mess. Also, putting trash in my closet because I'm too tired to go outside and throw it away for weeks is unreasonable, but I still did it. Last night I couldn't take it anymore and went through EVERYTHING. I donated half of my closet of clothes I had been hanging onto, "just in case." I decided to take my closet doors off so my closet would feel like more of a part of my room and I wouldn't feel tempted to shove stuff into it.

As someone who also has a problem with not putting things away immediately, what I do is I have two laundry baskets. One for clean laundry and one for dirty. Still trying to work on this bad habit but my thought is don’t beat myself up and just know my habits.

This is the first video I’ve ever watched from your splendid channel and I’m stunned of how realistic you are, I realized the majority of youtubers try to show up in an ideal and perfect way and they want others to take a good impression of them that they are productive and they do all of their chores in daily basis without postponing anything, Go to the gym and etc… which makes people feel bad about themselves and consequently they would compel themselves to accomplish things when they are not in the mood to do so, It is normal to be in a phase where you are completely drained and outburnt and we have to normalize that because we are humans and this is a part of us, I think this video brings confidence to whoever watches it because most of us are lazy as she is and we don’t have to hide that at all😂😂👍🏻

Since you like to shop and thrift and you just got that stuff from
the aerie event, clothes will accumulate quickly in a city apartment. Going forward, Youll have to be pretty honest with what you like and what you need and do a “one in, one out” rule.
Its easy when first moving out to use the closet and drawers at your parents house as a storage unit - for seasonal stuff, its fine for now. I did the same thing but eventually I realized I now was just accumulating and had two rooms stuffed to capacity and I only really wore a small percentage of the items from both. It got to a point where I cleaned out the stuff I was storing there and left empty dressers and closets there and wanted all my stuff in one place.
Something I started doing is the one touch rule. Once I pick something up I have to put it away and not just move it to another spot. It’s really helped me clean up faster and not feel as overwhelmed! Also don’t be so hard on yourself! It’s hard being in your early 20s and living on your own! You’re doing a great job!

I get really overwhelmed when my place is cluttered and I have to say, as much as I looove Christmas, I feel like it gets worse with all the decor. I totally get it!
Quick tip: If you have something like your headphone case that you really only use for traveling, put it in your luggage. That way it'll be where you need it when you need it. Welcome to life in the big city. Right now my kitchen sink is being taken up by a large Dutch oven because we had no hot water for two days and now everything is perma-stuck. I'm considering just throwing it out and getting a new one, but I don't really have an extra couple hundred bucks. All the miscellany that there is no place for is currently piled in a corner and draped with a decorative Christmas blanket, ho ho ho. I could go on. Sometimes you just need to turn the lights down low and pour yourself a big glass of wine, or two, or three.
If your dryer isn't working right it's probably clogged up with lint. Definitely clean the hoses and stuff out!
