- In this episode I take a closer look at exactly what it takes to really open up the Texoma Shot Shells in the 72 cal AEA Zeus Air Rifle! This smoothbore, 12 gauge airgun is a WILD RIDE, lets see how tight the constriction needs to be to b effective for ducks and clays!

Check out Jim at www.texomaprecisionpellet.com today for the Smooth Barrel Kit and also the shotshells!
Looks like the cases that hold the shot are too tough. Maybe score the front end a bit with a razor knife. Instead of just holding the shot in place the entire thing is a projectile.
high i have a question. do you remove baffles from aea sf compact in order to use donnyfl ryu moderator or any moderator. thank you
Shotshells 3d printed with TPU are the way to go in the Zeus. Make the base 4mm thick and walls as thin as your printer can make them. and it will rip open upon firing and pattern very nicely with a choke
Great insight!
Those bees are pissed💥💥💥
Thump up bro blast it
Although they may not open, when a projectile like that does tremendous damage on "mushy" targets. Think in terms of a wax slug from a powder burner
Thanks for quality vid, your hard-earned money spent to save ours testing and bringing innovative options for zeus!!!
* sidenote: hope your wifey is doing well.
✌
I'm really surprised by this as well...after much discussion with Jim@TPP I went with the 710 as we thought anything under 7 might put too much strain in the barrel, but...looks like I might be getting a 68 turk after next weeks content...Thanks as always for being the guinea pig on this stuff! Range day still a ways out, can't get enough of this!
Big notes: recoil goes up a lot. Does pattern w turkey, will break stock from recoil.😆
My choke is 640 btw. I didn’t ⚰️😂
@@macabespeed I didn't see anything between 705 & 680, that's a big jump to 640...certainly don't want a broken stock🤔 you think 680 will open those shells?
For centuries, 40 yards has been the established distance for pattern testing shotguns. Frankly, it’s the optimum range for a full-choked shotgun, where plus or minus 75 percent of the shot charge should strike within a 30" circle.
The choke is to close up the pattern. Full choke is the smallest improved is slightly bigger spread and unchoke is the largest pattern.
Turkey choke next, 640 super constricted
Lol turkey is the tightest group. That projectile is acting like a slug at 25 and the spread should be about 6-8 inches at that range depending on shot size with a modified. Expect 1-2 inch hole at Turkey. Have you thought about buck shot instead of bb. 6-8 balls would do it depending on size. I might be interested in one of those barrels when that gets worked out!!
@@macabespeed I would try scoring the shot projectile down the sides or something so that it comes apart when it leaves the barrel. Oddly enough it would probably work better with a rifled barrel bc the spinning would pull it apart outside the barrel.
I would suggest a printed shell, either made fragile or a plunger style so the shot exists the shell freely in the barrel. The printed ones i made for my Seneca Wing "CAP" Shot work perfectly .yes the choke can and does help break up the shell if it doesn't break up in barrel.
With the rifled barrel, you had centrifugal force helping the case open. Which you loose with a smooth bore. You may need to score the cases lengthwise to promote petaling like a typical wad would do. Or try a rifled choke on the smooth bore, or a full choke on the rifled barrel
bro what gun can be best for neebe like me i thinkink about some 30 but dont know wich brand for need can be good and less maintain for start (btw hello from Poland)
Mira como tuneaste el Zeus papaaaaa
load it like a black powder shotgun. felt wad top and bottom. Because the shot needs to be contained, using an enclosed capsule will always cause issues.
Also its a lot more fun to load it like a black powder shotgun.
Hey do you know that AEA is going to release their AEA Zeus MK2 in 95 caliber
I just wanted to ask will you try to shoot it
If a list is out there, I’d bet I’m on it👍
I am so confused... are we talking SLUG or SHOT? Because why would a slug open up (I am asking, because I don't shoot shotgun so I don't know)? As far as shot is concerned, doesn't a tighter choke make the pattern tighter?
I think you need a bigger choke not smaller and the shells may need some kind of wad to help them open up
Your going the wrong way Mac! Take it from a bird hunter. I have been optimizing the spread for the birds since I was 12. The improved cylinders are a medium spread so the carrier might be the issue. Be careful if you choke it more! I have seen a shotgun peel back a barrel like a banana when a full choke was accidentally used with slugs.
Open choke adapter failed too
Try cutting a x on the front of the shot shell enough to see through then try. It might be too tough for the lower fpe to break on exit so a bit of help might be needed.
When you go check the target you can hear the bees 😂 you're gonna get stung to high hell 😂
I don't see how a choke could make it open. Chokes make it tighter in increments according to what choke you use. It would have to be more of a sabot to open than a solid shotshell
But even open barrel didnt open right
@@macabespeed I think it's the shotshell not the choke. In a shotgun the shot cup opens almost immediately. It's flexible to go thru the choke but the front is open with cuts down the sides so as soon as it exits the choke it opens immediately.
I think the shell is too strong
Stay tuned for turkey choke test next!
A choke tightens the pattern bud at 10 yards it hasnt had a chance ..20 yards for turkeys hommie
Even at 25 it didn’t open tho
Apparently you do not understand what a choke does. A choke, like its' name, chokes a barrel diameter DOWN closing the pattern and making it tighter. Take the choke off completely and see how it patterns. If it doesn't pattern and is just one big wad its an ammon problem not a gun or choke problem.
