  • #chicken #eggs #chickenlife This video shows how to prepare for incubating chicken eggs but also the do's and don'ts. Follow along so you can see all of the stages from incubation to hatch. The same incubation information applies to hatching all types of eggs (whether quail, duck, chicken, etc.), however, the temperature, humidity, and number of hatch days differ. #chicken #eggs #chickenlife #backyardchickens #blackfarmers #incubator

I didn’t wash mine but I did do something that is patented method of clearing off the bad microbes (I decided to test this method). 50/50 distilled water and 3% hydrogen peroxide. Spray the eggs down and make sure it’s in a breezy area so it dries quickly. Then I sprayed the incubator with the same solution. Hydrogen peroxide works by oxygenating whatever it comes into contact with which kills the anaerobic (bad) bacteria. And the aerobic (good) bacteria will remain since the oxygen actually helps them improve because they thrive in oxygen rich environments.
So far so good. I still get them developing. Over half my eggs are still developing. The guy I bought the eggs from warned me that he added a couple new hens which he wasn’t sure if his rooster mated with yet.
Mahalo for your video. I made my own incubator using left over seed starting warming mats a thermostat and old dresser I don’t use.

Great ideas. Not ONE idea is correct. There are so many ways we can successfully do things on our homesteads. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

Have you ever incubated before? What incubator are you using? I have several but I am trying to tweak the incubators. I will start seeds this weekend too. I can't wait until Spring!

@@FraylyFarmMiniHomestead thank you Renee!! Yes it’s my first time! If you look on my Channel I made a video last night. We are enjoying this process and learning so much. We have a kebbonix incubator for the first round but I had ordered other eggs that haven’t arrived yet so I had to order ANOTHER incubator and chose the nurture right 360 for those eggs. Should get those goin Monday if they arrive. Will continue to document on my videos. Oh so fun girl - thanks so much Renè

Thank you for the information we keep banty hens to raise our chicks and they take care of the hard work for us LOL. But maybe someday I'll try to incubate some eggs it's always good to learn a new skill.

Believe it or not, there is a skill to hatching. I have not mastered it yet. I watch some sites and they claim an 85-95% hatching rate ... I am still waiting for that one. I even ordered eggs from these reputable sites and still did not get that % hatch rate. Maybe one day or I may need to invest in a bantam or Silkie hen to hatch for me. :) Thank you for watching.

Unfortunately out of all of those eggs, I only hatched 3. I am convinced my incubator failed. It was secondhand and I figured it was being sold for that very reason. I will trash that incubator and use another one I have that is much better quality.

I have lots of roosters (unrelated to each other and the hens) from white Leghorn to Marans & Araucana's and just started hatching out their eggs.. which obviously will lay other shades😊 can't wait haha

Great informative video. I’m debating if I want to try hatching eggs in incubator. I’ve been letting my broody gal sit on some but hasn’t been successful.

You should give it a try. It is sooooo exciting to watch them hatch. But, just a warning, it is super addicting.

You don’t need distilled water I’ve ALWAYS used tap water and never had a problem plus nothing will get into the egg as long as it has the bloom still on it

Here’s my input. Once the eggs come to you, wash them right away to get dirt off. Make sure you use sandpaper to really clean the color off. Don’t listen to her. She’s just hating! 💯

Sorry and no offense, but I am a little confused by your comment especially when you said to "use sandpaper to really clean the color off "
