  • This ruin was once the monastery of the Premonstratensians or "White Canons". It can be found in the village of Talley, in the River Cothi valley, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The monastery was founded by Rhys ap Gruffydd in or about 1185 for the Premonstratensians who came to England from Prémontré near Laon in northern France in about 1143. It was dissolved by Henry VIII during the dissolution.
The two lakes near the abbey ruins were used for fish farming to support the community of monks and are where the village gets its name, Tàl-y-llychau which means "the head of the lakes".

Thank you 😊 We did go to Neath, but most of it was wrapped up for renovations, so we couldn’t see much of it. Perhaps we’ll be luckier next time

Just makes just wonder how and long they took to build the place, they knew a thing or two.

I suppose it depends how many people we’re working on it, and whether it was one of those that was slowly expanded over the years

Love your videos, folks, but as a Welshman, I couldn't cope with the Gruffydd pronunciation!🤭 Griffith is the anglicised version. So just say it like that. It's very close to how it should be pronounced, anyway.
The letter U in Welsh is like the letter I in English, and dd is the same as th.

We know we need to work on this. Practice makes perfect but unfortunately, the ears of Welshmen are bound to suffer while we butcher the language. Sorry about that. Glad you like our films though. 😀

    Jo: I LIKE IT!
I do too. Especially since I started playing back at 75% speed and catching all the throwaway comments! Thanks again, folks :)

@@MostlyCastles it's not slow! It's the speed people talk where I live. Admittedly I had to slow down and stop biting off my words when we first came here long ago.

Having had a listen at 75% and I think we sound like presenters on some segment for a daytime TV programme. Who knows what that says about TV presenters. Are they all drunk?

I can only assume you are talking about the removal of the stone. I like to imagine there was some resentment about these strange French interlopers by the locals who were quite happy to see them go and more than happy to help themselves to the stone from their building.
