    Bits with the bearing above the cutter are available and generally perform this task reasonably well :)

      @TinyBasementWorkshop  Před 4 lety +1

      I guess you’re talking about bits with the bearing at the opposite end of the router. Well, true 😉 they are available and suit a lot of different tasks, bt they just don‘t work that well for plunging 😜 that‘s why I came up with that idea of bearings at the baseplate to be able to use a simple router bit without bearings 😊👍🏼

      @@TinyBasementWorkshop And a fine jig, it is. Well done.
      They're called a top bearing flush trim bit, in case you ever need one.

      You're welcome, I've made various jigs for my router in the past, to perform this task I would have straight edged it. Your version will save me so much time and swear 🤬 words. Thank you. 👍

    Very innovative! You might run into an issue with the bearing skipping over a chunk of debris stuck to the board surface. And ruining your bits path of travel.

    • @TinyBasementWorkshop
      @TinyBasementWorkshop  Před 4 lety +2

      Thank you for your thoughts :)
      Debris is definitely a problem when you work with a router ;) but I never had the problem that it messed up the rear bearings path of travel yet. Proper dust collection can be helpful - but thats something I‘m still working on 😅
      I think the build-up of debris and dust is always a problem if you work with any kind of guiding 😉 if you come across your described problem again, maybe small brushes in front of the bearings could be helpful. I will keep an eye on that though 😉 thanks for the good comment 😊👍🏼

    Ich dachte erst: "Oh mein Gott, er wird doch nicht etwa die Kugellager auf den Frässchaft montieren!!!" :-)
    Aber gut gemacht. Und wenn du die Kugellager nicht in Reihe auf eine Seite des Fräsers anbringst, sondern eines auf der einen und eines auf der anderen Seite, kannst du die Vorrichtung sogar als selbszentrierende Fräsvorrichtung benutzen!

      @TinyBasementWorkshop  Před 4 lety

      😂 Auf keinen Fall 😅 nein, das ist ein No-Go!!
      Die Kugellager werden an die Langlöcher montiert und dienen wirklich nur als Anschlag um zB eine Alternative zum Brett zu haben 😉 so kann man aber unter Anderem auch an Rundungen oder Schablonen super vorbeifräsen 😊👌🏼

    Wouldn’t that been easier if you had used the see thru plastic base as your template? The base holes line up just like the router and are lighter and can be seen through.

      My thoughts exactly . . .
      @2:11 , you removed the original plastic base . The original plastic base already have the holes . Easy for you to copy to your new acrylic sheet . Why use the metal router base and use 3mm drill bit ?
      That's what Drew Johnson means .

    Using bearings instead of wood runners, meh. You didn't show how you aligned the router to cut the angled slots....which was the purpose for making this jig in the first place.

    I’m sorry, but this is not what I expected. I’m currently building a staircase and I want to do almost the staircase as you showed in the beginning of your video. Only that the grooves to hold my steps will only go as far as the width of each step. And I want to build me a Samurai style jig too. In your video, you show how you did your jig, but you don’t provide information about slots to cut. You just cut them. When you center your body part of your router you seem to have just eyeballed it, after marking the center of the plexi-glas plate. That’s no precision work. And in the end you don’t show exactly how you setup your jig for your cuts. You use way too time lapse, you don’t provide enough information, and the music is the most annoying of all. I know, you cannot use any music because of copyright restrictions, but at least you could use better music and turn down the music, or don’t use music at all but talk and tell your viewers in detail what you are doing and why you are doing it. Hope this may be of help for you do make better videos in the future. Best wishes.

      Thanks for the feedback 😊 It was one of my first videos and I‘m aware of the fact that the overall quality is…improvable 😅
      If you still want to build the staircase, I have another video on the staircase-build where I show exactly how to cut the slots for the steps with this jig.

      Hey, thanks for your honest feedback. As this was one of my earliest CZcams-Videos, the overall quality just can‘t compare to bigger woodworking channels 😉 that‘s something I‘m well aware of.
      Just to adress some of the points you made:
      It‘s not important to have your router perfectly centered on the baseplate, because you are using the baseplate to mount fences or stopblocks. Those need to be adjusted according to what you wanna cut with the router.
      The slots are 8mm in diameter to fit M8 screws 😉 just like you saw me use in the video. The length is something you can chose by yourself. Some people like to use rows of holes. I think the slots are the better option.
      I‘ll try to mix „better“ music in my future videos and have a better soundquality 😉 also I‘m way more confident with talking in front of the camera now - so there will be more explanation in my upcoming content 👍🏼

      @@TinyBasementWorkshop thanks a lot for not feeling offended about my feedback, because that sure wasn’t my intention. 😎👍🏼
      I know, some people got everything to make perfect videos, but that perfection not so important. Like I’m multilingual I also watch German and French videos, especially about wood working and router extensions because I recently got me a Bosch Pro router that I really love. Being a retired locomotive engineer who started his professional life as a welder I come from the metal and electrics department, which means I actually have only little experience with wood working. But I want to learn because I love working with wood.
      There are two German channels that I like a lot because those guys tell you everything in detail, without much music. There’s also an American girl with an awesome channel. So don’t worry about music. The sound quality in your video wasn’t even bad, it was just as the first music piece started it was way too loud so I had to turn the volume down.
      I know, copyright music can be boring. But I guess even if you would include my favorite music, which is mostly Heavy Metal, preferably Melodic Death Metal, it would annoy me too.
      Well, I’ll explore your channel to find the more recent videos, and I’ll subscribe of course, right after I send this reply. Thumbs up and best wishes from Luxembourg 🇱🇺😎👍🏼
