- This Puzzle Box is made completely out of Popsicle sticks and hot glue. I would definitely recommend using WOOD GLUE, not a glue gun, because wood glue in much stronger. Popsicle sticks work great for puzzle boxes because they are thin, sturdy, cheap, and they are all about the same size so they slide really well with each other.

Summer 2014 Puzzle Box Class! If you live Near Poway CA...
In this course students will learn how to make multiple different puzzle boxes! Puzzle Boxes are mechanically locked boxes that require certain combinations to open. One must move around many pieces on the outside of the box in order to open it. This course will give students an introduction to puzzle boxes and an explanation of the different ways to build them using LEGOs, wood, cardboard, metal, and even 3D printers. There will also be an explanation and demonstration of many different puzzle box mechanisms. Students will have the opportunity to make puzzle boxes out of LEGO and Popsicle sticks in this class! Students will be able to design and build their own original puzzle boxes. At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to enter their puzzle box creations into a class competition. These boxes will be judged and Awards will be given to the winning puzzle boxes.

How did you build it
SICKKKKKKK!!!
I like it I will definitely be doing this
i paused the video frame by frame and studied the box. i have sketched down everything i can see in schematic form. im going to take a stab at it.
i dont need your tutorial. im off to make my own. 4layer face with a 3 layer base, 3 layer side walls 2 layer top and bottom walls. 3 compartments for stashing..... where is the 4th? mine will have a fourth. maybe even a 5th. challenge accepted!!!!!!
How did you make it though?
What glue did u use? I made one with hot glue and did not turn out great at all
Hey! I used hot glue gun for this box, but that glue doesn't hold very well. I recommend using Elmer's wood glue. www.google.com/shopping/product/859441435936891710?lsf=seller:8740,store:14049130833288269440&prds=oid:3103868778930309693&q=wood+glue&hl=en&ei=GZSJV6fxFIOlmwHp6ZOoBA&lsft=cm_mmc:Shopping-_-LIAs-_-D24-_-202819836&lsft=gclid:CjwKEAjwk6K8BRDM3aCSkdCtzSQSJAA3Vf38XwQRc8by5A9qruUHBXTG-Jfh2iIA00e07et6q2HJgxoCHqXw_wcB

can u make a video on how to make this box
please show how to make this, I really want to make it for my mom for Christmas 😕
These are basic instructions on how to make any type of puzzle box.
1st: some tips:
These boxes take between 4 hours and 2 weeks to make, so expect it to take a while.
Use wood glue! Not a glue gun, glue stick, or generic white glue! I think it's about $3-4 but it will last a long time.
You can cut the popsicle sticks to what ever size you want using a heavy duty pair of scissors, or a band-saw. If you use power tools be EXTREMELY CAREFUL and always watch your fingers!
A razer blade also works to shave off small parts of the popsicle stick that are too big or ugly.
When cutting popsicle sticks with scissors, many will break/split down the middle, to prevent this. hold the side you want to use with your thumb tightly while you cut. Usually if you do this, the side that you don't hold will spit, but the side you want to keep does not.
When you glue, cut small strips of a thin cardboard box to spread the glue, don't put too much glue on or it will seep out the sides.
Frequently test your box as you work, to make sure pieces still slide, and that you didn't glue them shut.
The concept of puzzle boxes uses a door with a lock. To lock it, you slide a Popsicle stick in front of the door. Then you slide another Popsicle stick in front of the last Popsicle stick so it cannot move.
Did that make sense?
The 1st thing you have to do is create a box, or buy one. The box needs to have a door, for the Puzzle Box with secret compartments, I built the door kind of like a drawer. To lock it, the drawer has two sliding locks (two Popsicle sticks that slide into either side of the box) which hold it shut.
Once you have a box with a door that locks, you can make a "Popsicle stick wall" on one of the sides of the box, that will slide in front of one of the locking pieces on the door. (see video and carefully watch how pieces slide).
How to make sliding Popsicle stick walls:
To make the Popsicle stick on the side, you need to 1st make a track for it to slide on.
1. Take 3 Popsicle sticks and place them on the side of your box. You want the middle stick to line up with the lock (the stick on the door) that you want to block.
2. Of the 3 sticks, glue the two outer sticks to the box with just enough space for the middle stick to fit between them. This will create a track for the stick to slide back and forth in.
3. You will also need to put a smaller Popsicle stick (perpendicular to those 3 sticks) on top of them to hold down the one that slides freely. Glue this stick with two dots of glue, to each of the 2 outer Popsicle sticks.
4. Now you need to make it so the freely sliding stick in the middle will not fall out. To do this, glue two small Popsicle stick pieces on the ends of the sliding piece. It should still be able too move back and forth, but it will not be able to fall out because the small pieces will hit the one perpendicular piece from step 3 if you slide it too far on either side.
After you make this sliding wall, you can repeat the process going in any pattern around the box you want. Usually if it's somewhat symmetric it will look better. After you have all your moving parts glued on, you can glue extra Popsicle sticks on the outside to make the walls even and make everything look nice.
I am sorry if this is hard to understand.
Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have anymore questions. The more specific a question is, the better explanation I can give. Also please let me know how the project works out. I'd love to hear about and see what you come up with!
Thanks,
