- I mean, I like Dragon Quest XI. Not my holy grail JRPG game but it's a solid entry in a beloved and respected series.
" DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition tells a captivating tale of a hunted hero and is the long-awaited role-playing game from series creator Yuji Horii and character designer Akira Toriyama. While it is the eleventh mainline entry in the critically acclaimed series, DRAGON QUEST XI S is a completely standalone experience that features entirely new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned turn-based combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to longtime fans and franchise newcomers alike. The Definitive Edition includes all the content from the original release of the acclaimed DRAGON QUEST XI, and adds extra character-specific scenarios, the choice of playing with the original soundtrack or a grand orchestral version of the music, the ability to switch between 2D and 3D graphic modes, a Japanese voice-acting option, and much more A young man, about to participate in his village’s coming of age ceremony, heads off to the top of the local lookout point alongside his childhood friend. After a series of unexpected events, this intrepid adventurer learns he is the reincarnation of a legendary hero from a forgotten age. The young hero sets forth into an unknown world on a journey to unravel the mystery of his pass, but the welcome he receives is far from warm. Upon revealing his identity to the King, the hero is branded as “The Darkspawn” and hunted by a relentless army. Fleeing from his pursuers, the hero assembles a band of endearing adventurers who believe he is actually the Luminary reborn. He and his newfound companions embark on a quest that will take them across continents and over vast oceans as they learn of an ominous threat facing the world."

Dragon Quest 11 was like comfort food for me. It felt like I was playing an anime! It helped me relax & forget about my troubles. I loved it a lot!
I gues that was a good way of describing the game, i also sometimes felt like I was playing an interactive anime.
Faaacts!!
This was my first Dragon Quest, and has now got me into the series. I enjoyed it, pretty simple JRPG, but fun. Also, my 6 year old daughter really likes playing it; she says it like "playing a cartoon".
That is adorable! ♡
@@PelvicGaming God loves you a lot and he wants you to be saved and happy, nothing in this world like money, fun or popularity can fill the emptiness in your heart, but only his son Jesus who died for you can fill you, you who might not know about him, he knows you more than yourself, you who turned your back to him, he is still waiting for you with his arms open to receive you again, you who fought against him and had done things that are unforgivable in your eyes, he will always see you as his son and he already paid the price for all your sins, even if the world doesn’t forgive you, all that you need is God and everything will be alright, so trust God and only God, no one else, repent from your sins and never go back to them, and the most important thing is that you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior with your voice and your heart, when you do all these things, pray to God and read the Bible(Christian Bible not a Catholic since the Catholic one might’ve changed the word of God to something that it is not God’s word but men’s, so read a christian Bible) so that you get to know God, and when you pray ask God to guide you so that you always walk in his righteousness and so that he gives you strength so you don’t fall to sin, and don’t just say I am a Christian and never read your bible or end up not praying, build a relationship with God, read the Bible, fast and pray and be his son not only in words but also in your actions, please listen to this message, today God has showed you grace, to you who might be depressed, empty, are being hated or hates, or maybe you don’t receive genuine love, even you who enjoys or is comfortable with his current life, whoever you who is reading this is, know that God is calling you to give you a future and a hope, in this life and in the eternal life, trust him because he loves you so much that you can’t even understand it, and the time is short, after this message you might day or Jesus might return, so be ready and follow him, for today he stretched his hand to you because he loves you and cares for you, and he doesn’t want you to go to hell, so please go to him, I promise you that it will be the best decision you will do in your entire existence and that God will free you from anything that hurts you, take the love and hope the Lord is giving you and be free, for the best future for your life is in his hands so please make a think seriously about this, because today God has stretched his hand to you who he loves so much that he even died for knowing all the bad things you have done, that is how much love he has and will always have for you❤️
I completely fell in LOVE with this game! My first JRPG, and hopefully first of many. Just finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which was equally fantastic.
What an amazing game to play as your first JRPG, very lucky!
Loved the game but the highlight for me was the wholesome bond between the Luminary and Erik. We all need an Erik in our lives.
Great work on this video! Fun to watch! Makes me want to pick the game up again and finish it this time.
I would love a DQ11 analysis.
Same
Resonant arc tryna smash lady pelvic's pelvic lmao. "Stick" to Xenogears, ya nerd.
Love your vids Resonant Arc!
@@JohnSmith-hs1hn Uncalled for
Good job for saying your honest opinion, so many times I watch a review and they tend to make some games seem better than they are just because is a big franchise, so your subjective honesty is appreciated.
Having said that, I loved this one, I was happy to play the third act and enjoyed that it was longer than I expected, giving a huge twist, compared to previous games. Is important to note that on previous games, post game content is a plus, where here is a full third act.
Still, I do agree that is quite a long game, which makes it hard to recommend unless you’re into this genre already. I played 8 for 180 hours and did not reach level 100. My top favorite is 5, and I would say that’s the best one to start for a newcomer since is not that long (about 35 hours).
My favorite story was the one where you find the armor in the dungeon (forgot its name), and Sylvando stole the show for me, he was such a great character.
Excited for 3 Remake and XII :)))
Sylvando is and will always be the best man to bring some life to the party.
You sir are a soldier of smile
"Whoopsie!!!!"
Yup
Great review! DQXI is one of my favourite games of all time - like WAY up there. I will be the first to admit that the third act was unnecessary and a let down though. The game could have been 70-80 hours instead of 100. Such a comfort game!
I'm glad you adored it! Lowkey sad you like it more than DQ5 :P It's a beautiful and fun game but...I was very much exhausted by act III.
I get excited when your videos come up, they're always entertaining and i know I'm going to get a down to earth real talk review. Good job!
I absolutely loved Dragon Quest XI as it reminded me of my time with Final Fantasy X for the first time. It was a brand new world filled with wonder and I was ready to dive deep into it. With that being said, I never finished Act 3 because it meant erasing every bit of character development that the characters have gone through. I couldn't stomach it.
I have to agree. While I appreciate that they tried to go for a proper happy end, the end of act 2 felt really original and earned, especially walking through the destroyed world and seeing how everyone is trying to cope with what has happened.
It was fun to travel back in time and fix everything, but every heartfelt moment from act 1 and act 2 was completely cheapen by act 3. Not to mention the character development, that basically did not happen, because we "fixed" everything
Yeah... Act 3 is pretty cool but it ruins the characters completely. At least they try to make it understandable why you do it.
@@kathalysator3822 shoot after going back in time, I could not consider my party members my friends. My friends were the people that I grew and experienced hardships with. These guys were just babies who got a happy ending handed to them on a platter.
@@mortalballgt52 I feel the same. I could not help but reminice about the adventures the party had experienced together during act 2. Act 3 made me kind of sad, because I felt like my friends were gone all of a sudden
@@kathalysator3822 because they are gone. We left them behind (I had a seperate save file thankfully) and if multiverse theory works in the game, they're just trapped in another timeline without the Luminary to protect them. Either that or they're just completely different people now after we fixed the timeline.
Act 1 an 2 are the story of DQ11. Act 3 is when they want to turn the story into a prequel to DQ3.
I just beat this game a few weeks ago after giving it a long break between act 2 and 3. I was burnt out after act 2 and gathering the party again and thought I was near the end but put it down. Came back to it about a year later and just fell in love with it again and put in 50 more hours.
It felt like all the cool skills and gear came waaay to late. It made me look back and feel like the entire rest of the game I was hindered. But, I want to play it again with a guide.
I definitely prefer VIII. The story arcs. The characters. The difficulty. The world. Especially its post-game. I have no issue with dumping 100+ hours into a game. But it can't all feel as same-y as DXI's did. I'm a completionist and I ended up dropping this when SMT V came out. I was loving it for 80+, but it just got tedious. I'll eventually go back, maybe play it all in 2D tbh.
Do you prefer DQXI or SMT V? I'm trying to decide which game to play next. I played DQVIII and loved it and am playing DQVII now.
I prefer XI much more in my opinion, 11 is better than 8 as a game in every way.
I love your reviews! You always seem to drop them whenever I just happened to be thinking about playing a game.
I absolutely love with this game, it’s decently long, the story is pretty emotional 😭 and once you think you beat it, think again! 🙌🏼
I felt the same about the length of the game. I loved act 1 and 2, but then revisiting every area for the third time, after 100+ hours of gameplay, just felt like a chore! Not to mention the repetitive soundtrack, the battle theme was the exact same song through the entire game.
To be fair, alot of modern JRPG'S go on more than 100+ hrs. Persona 5 & Xenoblade especially.
DQ 11 S is my favourite Dragon Quest game of all-time. I completely agree with you about Act 3, and patches of the storyline were boring and a drag.
Just making my way through your AMAZING review playlist. I’ll make sure to comment often for the algorithm. I’m loving your choice of games.
On my 2nd play through of DQ11 fell in love with the series with this game and it’s on of my favorite of all time… just so cozy and feels good to play no matter what.
I can't stress enough how great your reviews are!
It was nice coming back to dragon quest. I remember when 8 came out used to finish my homework at school so I could have more time to play.
Awesome review as usual. Forgot I grabbed the definitive edition played through the standard when it first came out.
Recently found your reviews and you are already one of my favorites. Looking forward to what's next!
I have finished over 100 JRPG:s, and this is my favourite of all time
Seriously? If you played only a few I can see it, but playing so many, this just seemed generic to me.
Same for me by far the best JRPG I have ever played.
Love your videos, great narration , energy and your voice is easy on the ears . Have you ever considered doing audio books. Keep doing these great videos !!!!
Great review! I too loved the post game story with the two best friends! 😉
Another example of how classic jrpg stories arent dead, they just need to be updated to modern expectations. Im worn out by chosen one stories but dq11 hit a home run. The main cast is great. Uncle rob with his super saiyan yell is amazing.
Nice review and nice to you back with a new thumbnail
I was sitting around here for about two and a half months, apparently, occasionally wondering where this review was. I didn't have notifications for this channel turned on. Y'ALL, CLICK THAT BELL ICON.
Aww! Well I'm glad you found it now! Yes notifications and bell on baby!!!
Aaaah, I want to watch this review, but I'm gonna save this vid for when I beat the game (I'm still playing through it right now and I'm having a blast and I'm excited to hear what you have to say about it).
My first Dragon Quest game and I enjoyed it. But yeah, agreed about not being a fan of time travel and the way Act 3 was padded by backtracking. Felt it made an already long game way too artificially long. Loved Hendrick's VA. Probably among the best in the game. He just nails that regal, authoritative, knightly character.
Thanks for the honest review, I recently got a switch and have been thinking of getting this. Glad you mentioned the music, I'm a little mixed about it so far on the demo, with the music being the worst thing about it for me! I love the Tales games too but I agree the music in them is weak for a big RPG series.
It isn't impressing me like Dragon Quest VIII did when I first played it on the PS2, that game drew me into the world and characters a lot more!
I always thought some Dragon Quest songs sounded like music for a commercial, and you made perfect use of those songs xd
Great review! I’m in the middle of Act 2 and it’s the most fun I’ve had with a JRPG in quite some time (other than SMT/Persona). Unfortunately I put it down when Elden Ring came out, but I’m excited to get back in it. My friend and I started at same time and he just got the platinum trophy on PlayStation recently
I'm glad it's not just me who felt that way about the characters in act 3! I was really enjoying the game until act 1 was over, it started to overstay its welcome after that. By act 3 I was mentally checked out.
Girl you are not alone!! I was absolutely EXHAUSTED afterwards.
A lot of people rank Veronica as their 1st or 2nd fave character, so it's weird to see someone outright hate her.
(Act 3 spoilers below)
I think the not wanting to give up the character growth is one of the genius things behind Act 3. Of course you love your friends you went on the journey with, so that choice is yours: do you want to try and make a better timeline overall? Because if you do, you will lose something else entirely. It's a catch 22, and has a deeper meaning.
Yeah, as much as it sucks to lose that version of the characters, I'm pretty sure it was an intentional choice. It makes it so the player has to give up something to get the happily ever after for everyone else. Obviously not something a lot of players will like, but it seems to have gone over really well in Japan so I guess they hit their target audience with it.
I think it's just the team wanting to have their cake and eat it too. DQ has always been very lighthearted and given how act 2 goes they probably thought they where pushing things a little.
They just like veronica because shes veronica, if you think shes great specifically in this game, youre lying and unable to be objective. I encounter alot of this on here tho, specifically with marvel fans that refuse to say somethings bad even when it clearly is.
@@jonathansoko1085 I get what your saying but the game does show that Veronica has some good qualities despite her bitchy attitude.
@@jonathansoko1085 Nice bait
Great review. This was one of my favorite games, but it does go long. The post game just felt like something I really didn't want to do because the game already felt complete. This felt like a true love letter to old-school JRPGs
I disagree. It wasn't really complete. There was part of the pieces in Act 1 & 2 that was left out that Act 3 brought back. The Calasmos that was mentioned in Gallopolis Ruins, the sky sanctuary where it was corrupted, why Veronica wasn't back on being taller that was in the opening theme, the gypsy woman. Everything wasn't totally complete till Act 3 gotten all of the answers.
Still keeps it 100. Still makes great reviews. Still worth waiting for. Thanks for keeping it going. We all missed Lady Pelvic.
Thank you! I missed you all too!
I strongly disagree regarding Selena and Veronica. I liked them a lot. I do think the time travel element was a bit of a cop out, but you had to work for it and you could accept the prior ending as being the definitive one if you wanted.
I’m not w big fan of JRPGs but I did enjoy this more than most. I think it’s to do with the sense of adventure it provides. I played VIII as well, and honestly, I preferred XI. It has its flaws as well. I found the battles to be more tedious in it and some of the bosses required too much grinding. The music was much better in it, though.
DQXI and Persona 5 Royale are the two longest games I’ve ever played, but I preferred DQXI out of the two.
I want to try DQ11, but I hardly have time anymore. I’m barely trudging through Neo World Ends (I’m on week 2 and asking for a reprieve, bruh). I think I’d be similar to you if and when I play 11. Been a fan of the series since the first. Good to see you back, milady, keep being awesome and safe!
One of my favorites, thanks for playing!
Best news I got today is getting a notification from you and I always wanted to know from a reviewer I trust, if DQ XI is for me or not 👍🏾
Awh thank you
People that hail this game and DQ as a whole as the best thing ever, often cite the music. I for one hate the music and mute it as soon as i get in and turn on respectable music. the music of a game should welcome me in, its almost offensively bad it sounds like a bad high school band
I played it a year ago and loved every single minute of it, including the extra time for the real ending (I preferred the "bad" ending, it was much more powerful). And now, listening to the background music in your video, my hear pumps and I want to play it again, to re-live the experience, to live again into this world.
I know what you mean when you say ACT 3 deletes character progression, and I felt the same. All they did by themselves, when Hero was not there, was deleted, as though it never happened. But then I spent more time thinking about it, and, yes, it's still happened, but that was the point. They all sacrificed themselves to save Veronica (who, after Sylvando, is my favorite character). It was not supposed to be easy, it was supposed to be sad and gripping. And it was!
A good thing about Act 3 is that it's optional, it's post-game content and you don't need to engage if you don't want to. But it's an opportunity to spend more time with these lovable characters. I mean, I loved them, even Hendrick, who has almost as much personality as Hero (who has almost none). I just felt thankful to have been given the chance to save Veronica and spend more time with my family and friends. That's what I want from real life, and this games made me feel just that.
I played almost all of the first act of DQ11 and just felt it wasn't really having what made DQ great.
I played DQ8 a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I think what makes 8 better is the feeling of exploration being better, the characters being more down-to-earth and yes, the town fairytale stuff was a bit darker and deep. It's like this DQ (11) is what people who have never played a DQ see every DQ as.
Funny thing... The way you feel about 11 is the way I feel about 8 as a DQ3 fan...
@@Michirin9801 What's also funny, I felt about 3 the way I felt about 11 when compared to 1 and 2. I might actually think these are my favourites save for 8.
@@Thirteen13551355 Now that I don't get... 1, 2 and 3 are all very much in the same vein, in how they're like, less story/character-driven and more adventure/exploration-driven, and what made 1 and 2 special, that is going from town to town, talking to NPCs to get hints and leads, and use those to find plot-critical items that can be hidden literally anywhere as you go, and fight monsters and get stronger along the way, all of that is there and accounted for in 3, and if you ask me, they're often done better... Nevermind the sheer amount of freedom that comes with the party customisation!
I honestly feel like the series kinda lost what made the first 3 games so special, and as far as I've played, I think only 4 and 9 even come close to recapturing it...
Bought this one for the switch last year, played for about 3 hours. I liked it but I need to finish other games first. Enjoyed the review!
Great job with the review 🙌 Although I played the original version I definitely have to play the definitive version of DQ11 before I have a final opinion on it Anyway glad you were able to finish the game I do agree about the character criticisms and how mixed it can be to play Act 3 (such as it's length and especially the undoing of character moments...looking at you Serena 😐) Considering DQ12 is apparently going to have some changes to the franchise hope you'll look forward to that game when it's released
You nailed my sentiments about this game. Great game. Not as great as others. IV and VIII are my favorites (IV s SO damn underrated), but certainly well thought out and put together. The 2D thing was cool, but got old fast knowing I was playing a nice 3D version at the same time. Music, while great for an old schooler such as myself, was just too much of the same and had the same problem as VIII... Too relaxing and would put me to sleep. And gawd daaaamn... I complain on my twitch channel constantly about the length of RPGs and the "false endings". DQXI was a pretty bad offender in that category. And yet... I still want to replay it. What is wrong with me?! Great review!!!
Thanks for making this review. Honestly as an smt fan i was naturally recommended to try out the series since some games allowed you to have monster teams and etc. Tbh? I am an old fashioned man who preferred diving into older games. Though DQ4-6 and 8 did catch my curiosity. Yet to find a second hand store that had them in stock and at a reasonable price
was waiting for this, thakn you!!!
DQ11 is a fun one for me; the first story-focused DQ game I played and so it holds a special place in my heart. After trying out 8 I may go back and actually finish Act 3 lmao (got fatigue trying to complete it all at once; it's a great game but if I had to choose I'd play it in parts)
Yeah Act 3 always rubbed me a little wrong admittedly. I actually do like Veronica so I can't be mad at wanting to rescue her, buuuuut Senya goes through such a great arc to that HAVING to be reversed, or alt timelined i guess. I think it'd be interesting if Luminary could have expressed thoughts on the whole situation and have that be it's own story, like another comment suggested. But I figure DQ isn't a series that cares to dive very deep into complex stuff like that which in itself is fine if it's consistent with the rest of series tone/writing (I wouldn't know yet).
Oh it's time, let's go. Looking forward to getting this game myself eventually when I get a switch soon (had the demo on ps4 but my console has tech issues so I couldn't get to the full title there lol)
I love DQXI, don’t get me wrong. If the game ended on Act II, it would be my favorite game ever. But I hate what they did to Act III. Every character growth was gone, and that’s why I DQXI isn’t my favorite game in the franchise. I prefer DQIII-DQVI over DQXI.
I love the characters, except Jade. Out of all the DQ games I have played, she is easily my least favorite character. Her story part makes no sense to me, why she would want any part of what tortured her. She was just, there. She had nothing that made her interesting.
And as much as I love the characters, I felt the characters in DQIV and DQVI were better. So much so, that I want remasters of both. I think those games can be even better than they already are.
I want it for DQV as well, and while they don’t have better characters (I like them all, don’t get me wrong), what DQV has over DQXI is a better story. Plus the dark parts in DQV really hit hard. Which is another problem I have with Jade’s story. It should’ve hit hard, but if felt like they brushed it aside as though nothing happen. Even Milly’s story in DQVI makes sure to hit hard.
I'm sorry. But DQ6 having better characters. I disagree. I found all of them forgettable.
I dropped the game after act 2 and watched the rest on CZcams. Great game, but the story clearly was all over the place.
great review as always, you always stick to your guts
Already beat dq 11 and loved it! But I love checking your reviews out for games :)
Awesome review!Ah dragon quest the comfort food of jrpg for me, once a year i always played the number title along with breath of fire 4 or grandia...even now i still don't understand why they always change the name of hero job, in japan it always"yuusha".
missed ya! 🎈 thanks for the video
This game made me fall in love with JRPGs. I played final fantasy but this made me branch out to persona, tales of, fire emblem.
You know what? I'm happy to hear that.
Great review! Sums up my own feelings and I didn't complete it. I got it on ps4 and got a couple hours into and it was fun but I wasn't super motivated to keep playing. I didn't have that itch, ya know? So other life things came up and I just never went back. Til the Switch version. Thought I'd play it more portable like a bit in bed before going to sleep. I got a little further into it and yeah put it down and didn't pick it up again. Even though it was super convenient to do so.
And you mentioned DQ7. If 11's length felt like it was too much, then I gotta say... 7 maybe not a good one to try. I had to put effort into trying to finish it and just couldn't. Git like ten hours in? More? And just couldn't keep going.
I hear it's because of the pacing & heavy grind class issue that makes it longer
Great review. I really got a mouthful from some people on CZcams when I criticized the 3rd act. Glad I’m in good company.
I agree. I enjoyed DQ11, but the cast does not hold the special place in my heart that DQ8's does. Also, it was too long...WAAAYYYY TOOOO LLLLOOOONNNGGGGGGGGGG. Sadly, by the time I got to the end, I didn't even really care all that much anymore. Great review.
OMG that makes me so happy to hear! I expected me to be torn a new one for this. I certainly don't want to make this game out to be bad be bad but it didn't keep my attention for me to fall absolutely in love with it.
@@PelvicGaming I played it after watching Tim Rogers review. His take is to "just hang out with the characters", and I really found it comfy to take my time with it. I probably would have been more frustrated if I was trying to finish it quickly.
@@fotografick Same. I took like 6 months to beat it since I was playing casually and didn't have time to pick it up every day. It was a fun ride (and the recap when starting it up was the best) but I can see how it would burn people out if they binged it. I also agree with @Pelvic_Gaming that the town stories in 11 didn't feel as good as some of the previous games for me.
I just picked up this game and found your video. cheers
Haven't tried a Dragon Quest game before, but been curious about XI for awhile.
DG11 was first. I loved it. But the "post game" content I think is mandatory and the true final act and ending
Dragon Quest is my favorite series so glad to see more people get into it. DQ 11 is an amazing game and the best JRPG this generation. I love it. DQ 3 is my favorite in the series and is a masterpiece just like it. I recommend play DQ 1-3 on Switch if u havent already, play in that order for the best impact on DQ 3. Happy Questing After Dragon Quest 3, DQ 8 and 5 are Goats as well.
Nice. Well done. Didn't see any errors.
One of the few modern JRPGs I have actually had fun with
This game was my first dq and I loved it I’ve never been so invested into a story
Great review on DQ11! I'm just finishing Tales of Arise. Im glad I watched her review before buying the game as other reviewers didn't seem to criticize it. Good game but wasn't a masterpiece to me.
Great review! That's about how I felt up until I dropped it. Maybe I'll pick it back up? Also I love those Majora's Mask prints!
Woah....finally a new review. Yay. Thanks pels
Thank goodness you played the Definitive Edition. Overall I've heard many say that it gives out a much better impression compared to the original one.
I can understand. Seems like a great first JRPG, but after playing so many of them the familiarity of it may be a bit too much.
Yeah... that's kinda how I feel. That's not to say JRPG vets can't enjoy this. For me it's as you say.
I agree DQ VIII is my favorite of the series and one of my fav RPGs of all time.
I need to get back to this one. Stopped at 20 hours or so because life but now I finally got more time.
Yeaa!!!!!!! I’m still at work but I can’t wait to go home and watch this
Welcome back I missed you
Awesome review
My first DQ game was 9 on the DS, recently bought 7 and 8 due to the upcoming 3DS eShop closure, and have been interested in this game for a while (Tho, I was sadly spoiled about a big plot point halfway through, and I'm still kinda sad about that even tho it's been about a year or so since I got spoiled).
(Oh ye, I also have emulated DW1+2 on GBC)
((Also, also fun fact: There's a small DSiWare DQ spinoff))
I quite enjoy this one. Good video, and perhaps the best thing about the game is that it has a very generous Switch demo that gives you the chance to play, well, quite a bit of the game.
Man, I can't believe you liked Jade. I thought she was one of the most boring characters in the game. People built her up to the point I was expecting her to be, at the very least, interesting. But no. She was just so "meh". There are two reasons as why I can see why people like her so much though.
LOL, listen out of Veronica, Serena or Jade... I'll take Jade. I like a lady who can kick ass. But I'm not gonna argue that she had some big personality. She did not.
I love your RPG reviews! Do you have any plans of playing/reviewing Triangle Strategy? I would love to hear your thoughts!
One thing the ost for when u are on the ocean omg amazing
Fucked up part is, and I'm apparently the only person who's really considered this. You're not making things better. You create a second timeline and let the first one exist fucked up. The Gemma you marry is not the one you grew up with. To say nothing of her being co-opted by a WISH to make her marry you. You didn't wish for a great wedding after she said yes to proposing. You simply change reality. You as this supposedly selfless hero so many have relied on perform easily two of the most sociopathically selfish acts in gaming coming from someone who's supposedly a paragon.
Saving Michelle was worth playing Act III, alone, in my opinion LOL
I loved 11. It's my all time favorite game of the series. I've been playing since the original. When it was known as Dragon Warrior in the states. It brought so many creatures and characters alive. I loved the second half. When you thought you beat the game. Hell! I'm still playing Skyrim. 😂
I played vanilla DQ11 on PC when it came to the US in all it's midi glory. Then the definitive version was no longer Switch exclusive and got released on Xbox/PC Gamepass so I decided to play the game again since it had been 2 years and I wanted to see the 2D content from the 3DS version. If you think just beating the game was tedious, imagine trying to get the platinum trophy for it. It took me 150 hours. The only Dragon Quest game I have more hours in is DQ9 since I used to play multiplayer with my friends.
Jade is definitely best girl. Act 3 was fine but. I liked Serenica better so. The ending for act 2 would have been a fine ending too imo
I just started playing this game, seems really good so far.
Dragon Quest XI is a great entry point, it was my first and made me fell in love
Welcome back!!! Your lipstick looks AMAZING!!! 💄
I can't get into any of the Dragon Quest stuff. The Akira Toriyama artwork just looks so bad in my opinion. It would be one thing if I liked ANY game with his style, but Blue Dragon and Chrono Trigger repulsed me as well. Still a great review.
I'm sick of silent protagonists as well. You're supposed to be the lead character, and people talk about you like you're not even there. That's why Digital Devil Saga is my favorite SMT game, with Catherine as a close second.
I loved Dragon Quest 11 and the cast is one of my favorites, but i agree about Act 3.
Yeah, I always thought of Act 3 as optional content. I guess if you are reviewing a game you should play it, but I imagine it was mostly made for people who really enjoyed the game.
I don't mind Act 3. There are certain things that was left out from Act 1 & 2. But I wish it was postgame content rather than just being an final act, didn't do the time traveling stuff and makes u revisited areas u already visited like 2 times already.
DQ8 was my fav in the series. Still own it for the ps2.
My friend who doesn’t know dragon quest never played any of them I lent him my copy of dragon quest 11 on the switch and he was hooked on it he played nothing but that game for a year.
I completely agree with you on Act 3
Good news, I guess, in that the Dragon Quest games are going to be getting a different musical direction because the composer died. Normally, that might be bad news or bittersweet, but uhhh... he was frankly a deeply unpleasant man.
I think Dragon Quest music is wonderful.
Glad you enjoy it!
If you think Tales has subpar music you should play Tales of Legendia. Tales of Legendia has the best soundtrack ever.
Ash and Derrick (GVG) rave about this game. I adore GVG and I hold their view in high regard. When I heard them on a podcast both say that this is "almost in league with Chrono Trigger" I dropped everything and started playing it. I felt sad that I couldn't agree or find anything particularly special about the game. It's cozy, it's familiar and I love the character and world designs. But the story, characters and music didn't come close for me and I eventually put it down. I've been looking for an excuse to give it another shot, maybe free of the unfair expectations that I placed upon it.
For me it's basically the opposite. I loved DQ XI (I was already a big fan of DQ, but XI became my favorite pretty easily, which is a rare thing to do), then last year I played Chrono Trigger since EVERYONE considers it to be the best JRPG ever and... I didn't like it. Like, I don't fully understand why it's so loved, yeah the characters designs are good, the concept of the story is good, but I didn't feel attached to the characters at all, I used a guide to proceed since I didn't understand what to do and at the end I decided to not beat it, and honestly it's a shame since I wanted to loved it as much as others. Maybe the thing is that I played in English which is not my first language and I missed something in the process... Maybe one day I'll give it another shot
@@ale217 Chrono Trigger is the usually cited as "the best game ever made" if it's not in the Top 25 or Top 10. I think RPGs have come a long way since then- remember, Chrono Trigger came out in 1995 and changed a lot for the genre. Today, narratives and character development in particular, can go far deeper and more complex than Trigger. Battle systems are more interactive and take more risks.
What still holds up about Chrono Trigger is the the world building, the spritework and especially the soundtrack. The soundtrack is in a league of its own, unlike anything else in the medium. A huge part of Chrono Trigger's legacy also comes from the agency that it grants the player. Because the story hinges on time travel, the designers grant you authority over the game's conclusion and thus the final act can play out in dozens of different ways.
Chrono Trigger captured hearts and imagination during a time when Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest were sticking to their traditions. I think it holds up well but the legacy is almost impossible to live up to. Don't feel bad if it wasn't the kind of game that you wanted. Maybe someday you'll feel differently.
@@CrowTRobot Yeah, the spritework and the music were actually my two highlights. Yeah I hope someday my opinion will change, maybe with the Switch port that is obviously going to happen, right Square?
It also has one of the best battling system in any RPG'S and introduced stuff like an enemy encounter without being randomized & combo moves that becomes an trend in later RPG'S.
Played 11 when it first came out for the ps4, first dragon quest I played now I can not wait for 12
