One of the greatest of our time. And I never knew that Beck sang this. I always thought it was someone who sat in on the album. What range he has! Crazy good!!!!
I always think it's cool how he went from the funky "jump around and dance" record like MV, and then went to the sad-sorry eyed SC two or three years later. Such an imaginative and talented individual.
"(1988--1993) Independent releases In 1988, Beck recorded a cassette entitled Banjo Story, which has since become available in bootleg form.[11] Beck returned to Los Angeles at the turn of the decade. To support himself, he took a variety of low-paying, dead-end jobs, and even lived in a shed, all the while continuing to develop his music. During this time, Beck sought out (or sneaked onto) stages at venues all over Los Angeles, from punk clubs to coffee shops and busking on the streets."
Outside of great songwriting and good beats, another awesome thing about Beck is that he brings a lot of fun back to music. Like his last single, "Timebomb," that shit is a birthday party waiting to happen.
This song defines so much about modern relationships.... I love the groove and Beck's singing is seriously under appreciated. So much brilliance here. Outstanding performance. Take you up to Glendale for a real good meal. Thats how i always pick up chicks....
I love David Bowie AND Beck. Although he bit off "win", he definitely owned it. I wouldn't want either song removed from existence. Besides, Bowie did his share of theft as well. I don't frown on sampling at all as long as you can make it your own. Sampling, Borrowing & stealing just reminds us that the great artists are genuine fans of music & are always digging for those golden nuggets. Beastie Boys, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Oasis and Chemical brothers do this brilliantly.
the information and guero are fantastic albums and equal to odelay in their way. its what i love about beck - he experiments and you have to be on your toes to go allong with him. like freeavidd says below there are moments of genius on both albums - espicially the information = the production on tye first few songs is painstaking and simply blinding.
why didn't this get cut about 15 secs after he was faced down? that would've been perfect.... has anyone ever had "Zankou [sp?] Chicken?" i love this jam....
Please Music Lord, forgive these sinners. They do not know what they're saying. Ok ok ok, Lord, I admit, I do not have any Prince albums either, but at least I appreciate the brilliance of real musicians. Amen.
Pearl That is who would get it,,,, Janis and her Cosmic Blues big band... as for detractors, keep pounding the strings in your bedroom, your gonna be there a very long while
that was 'the information' my friend with cellphones dead on. anyhow its a damned excellent album that requires a little work on the ppart of the listener. its where the beta band should have gone instead of splitting up.
Baby driver reminded me of Debra. It's still good to listen to this song.
One of the greatest of our time. And I never knew that Beck sang this. I always thought it was someone who sat in on the album. What range he has! Crazy good!!!!
I agree with that
Great music I love the tone of your voice is awesome
Beck is such a Versatile BadAss.He shows here he can go from Motown R&B roots to Rock and all points in between!
I always think it's cool how he went from the funky "jump around and dance" record like MV, and then went to the sad-sorry eyed SC two or three years later. Such an imaginative and talented individual.

I know it word for word.
"step into my Hyundai".....classic Beck....just saw him in MD over the summer, scratched that one off of my bucket list, amazing show.

Lord, I love this song...
This is GREAT!!
Beck... One of the greatest musical artists of all time. I'm serious.
I hear a mixture of the Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye and Chicago. Blues, Rock and Soul overtones. Good jam.
would love to take my 10 favorite jams and put on cd to hear everywhere, dig his style, great song
this song reminds me so much of 'oh sweet nuthin'' by the velvets
sooo good, love the slow rock, from old school jammer

AWSOME
Let's not get carried away here, i'm a massive Beck fan. But lets not undermine the genius of Prince
CLASSIC
Baby driver took me here lol

BECK CAN DO ANYTHING
This sounds like a Flight of the Conchords song.
Ha! You’re right!
simply the best soul performance from a white guy.
thanks B

this whole midnite vultures album reeks of prince and freaky sex. it's truly excellent.
Caught him doing this song at Radio city Music Hall after the CD came out, cracked me the fuck up!!!
very soulfull 4 a avant gaurde performer.
I thik his name .......Beck
Hahaha my mom's name is Debra and I play this for her sometimes! Hahah
miss viva zwei...
beck is my fucking hero. end of story.
epicness ...
Holy crap, this sounds exactly like the album version.
It's hard to believe this is the same guy that sang Loser and Chemtrails
Step aside, Prince. For just a couple minutes.
wow. it's like a collaboration between steely dan and prince.
very flight of the conchords
He's too cool...
Of course he does.
Cannot wait for song reader.
Great fucking song.
why didn't this get cut about 15 secs after he was faced down? that would've been perfect.... has anyone ever had "Zankou [sp?] Chicken?" i love this jam....
@ThePatrik79 Such a great lyric!

Good god
pure fucking magic.
can you imagine if someone like otis redding or wilson pickett sang this song?!
He moves like Jarvis Cocker
Shit yeah...
step into my hyundia
I ve been to that concerst if i m not mistaken
. Is this the recording of his concert in Cologne?
Nobody writes songs about Warren.
:(
that drummer is my neighbor hahahaha
great performance in my opinion....strange...but great
Does anyone know who the drummer is in this video? He's great!
@blough27 I always saw this as a barry white tune
Sounds like Of Montreal
Dose he really drive a hond? and even if did it would still be cool becuse it is BECK!
we know there's a "you",we know her name's Jenny, we know there's "your sister",but we merely THINK her name's Debra.
@MatanKG This was well before them.
Beck has some style, don't he?
@lednerg Haha, just what I was thinking.
Does Glendale have a "Red Light District"...??
Please Music Lord, forgive these sinners. They do not know what they're saying. Ok ok ok, Lord, I admit, I do not have any Prince albums either, but at least I appreciate the brilliance of real musicians.
Amen.
Obviously a joke haha!
But beck is my hero for sure. He's so diverse!
He laid that shit! #dead
@Bluesysphinx somewhat following in the foot steps the great Frank Zappa
@paradoarify No, I think it was intentional...
beck kicks wayne763's ass all over the place.
If not better
How much would it cost to book this band for a party. Really. Cost is no option.
actually what was the album before modern guilt (which wasnt that bad)?? i didnt really catch thaat album??
i said lady step inside my Hyundai,
Pearl That is who would get it,,,, Janis and her Cosmic Blues big band... as for detractors, keep pounding the strings in your bedroom, your gonna be there a very long while
Prince couldn't carry Beck's jock.
I like Beck...but it has come to my attention that he really wants to be David Bowie! Listen to Win by DB then listen to this.....
too much soul for a white man he nearly dies at the end...
haha not even, I'd say like 100
@AlbertTransom
Hey, guess what!
David Bowie Copied that from Ramsey Lewis. So get your facts straight.
that was 'the information' my friend with cellphones dead on. anyhow its a damned excellent album that requires a little work on the ppart of the listener. its where the beta band should have gone instead of splitting up.
I have a sister named Debra. This is weird.
well your name's not jenny, soo...
I can call you jenny. No dif to be baby, " i pack heat"
Not sure if this would make a good wedding song.
nothing wrong with that, though. who doesn't want to be bowie! come on, now.
Would be a pretty slick way to get with the sister, no?
It's weird, he pronounces it "Hun-dye".
God he was so hot back then. He needs to cut his hair now.
Quien llego aqui por baby driver?
he reminds me so much of prince its not even funny
